Talk:List of Australians
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"INXS" is not a famous Australian, I would have thought. Michael Hutchence might well be, though. --Robert Merkel 06:23 Dec 13, 2002 (UTC)
Daisy Bates needs a disambiguation page. The link currently points to an American. I'd do it, but I'm brand new at this! Carriejane 09:16, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Does she need a disambiguation page? Someone, please comment of whether she needs an article. If so I can set up the disambiguation page. Otherwise let's remove the link. Dmbaguley 22:34, 2 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Greg Norman is as Australian as apple pie. If someone has lived in America for over 20 years, and often fails to come to play in the premier Australian golf tournament, can they really be called Australian? I'd suggest he be removed. ShaneKing 03:41, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Greg was for some part of his life at least, an Australian, and he is certanly famous, thus i would say he should be on the list. I think this should be as inclusive as possible. The bellman 10:41, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Would John Pilger be removed under the same rationale? Andjam 08:29, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Carmen Duncan was removed from this list...I don't know why. I'm adding her back. Mike H 13:04, Sep 20, 2004 (UTC)
I have removed both the sections for politicians and crime from this list. Politicians already have enough exposure without this list, and are only noteworthy for the fact that people have voted for them - and, in some cases, the actions of some have added to the misery of ordinary Australians. With regard to criminals, they should not be glorified by being added to a list which is supposed to be about illustrious Australians, as they have not done anything to help our country. To add criminals and their crimes to such a list demeans the whole concept for the existence of the list, and, perhaps, may even inspire criminally-minded people to commit crimes just so that they can see their names in an encyclopedia and gain notoriety on a world-wide basis. If people are so desperate that they want to see which politicians were mentioned, and which criminals and crimes were mentioned, then they can always check back on earlier editions of this article. - I'm glad that your non-consultative and self-righteous move has been reversed. Just because you don't like these people does not mean they are not very important to Australian folk-lore. Would you really leave Ned Kelly off a list of important Australians?? 99of9 06:24, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
List of Australian painters may be a worthwhile potential list, but what good is having a redlink under "See also"? Andjam 08:29, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Move Sport and Music into new articles
This page is quite large, I propose that we move the Music and Sport sections out of the list and add them separately to Category:Lists of Australians. We could also link to them from this page with a see main article template. Grumpyyoungman01 00:52, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Tim Morison should not be here, but Frank Fenner and Philip Adams (both with pages on Wikipedia) should be listed.
[edit] "Breaker" Morant
I am not Australian but it seems that Breaker Morant is a pretty important figure in Australia and the British Empire. --ProdigySportsman 01:12, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Russell Crowe
I added a factual accuracy tag. Please see Talk:Russell Crowe.--James Bond 10:09, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
