[edit] Ravana

Ravana is listed as an Asura, but I thought that he was a rakshasa, a more monstrous and brutal class of demon.

are all Hindu demons classed under Asuras?--Dangerous-Boy 00:58, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
No. Originally in the Vedas, Asuras were a class of gods, including the likes of Varuna and Savitr, but the term later came to be used for demons. These demons were the sons of Kashyapa by Diti (Daityas) and Danu (Danavas). Rakshasas like Ravana were, however, a separate group of demonic monsters. --Grammatical error 07:18, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
To add to that, Rakshasa is listed as if it were the name of an Asura, whereas in reality it is a different class of demon.

What is the use of this page, when you have a Category of Hindu demons? Unless you want to be more specific in classifying between Daityas, Asuras, Rakshasas! See Category:Hindu demons
