- "All your 404 are belong to us!" — Variant of "All your base are belong to us," a mangled "engrish" phrase from the game Zero Wing.
- "I see dead pages!" — From the line "I see dead people" in The Sixth Sense.
- "But why is the page gone?" — References quote from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl by Captain Jack Sparrow ("But why is the rum gone?"); it appears on a 404 page with a Pirate Meerca.
- "I'm sorry, Dave, I can't let you view this..." — Reference to HAL 9000's quote in 2001: A Space Odyssey: "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."
- "Of all the broken links on all the websites in all the world, you had to walk into this one..." — Reference to Casablanca.
- "Sir, the possibility of this page being broken is 3,720 to 1!" — Reference to a quote from Star Wars (regarding the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field).
- "Sarah, go back to your room. Play with your toys. Forget about the 404." — References line from the movie Labyrinth: "Sarah, go back to your room. Play with your toys and your costumes. Forget about the baby."
- "We'll just nuke this 404 from orbit. It's the only way to be sure..." — Reference to the movie Aliens. (The original line is "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.")
- "My mother said there are no such things as 404s, but there are, aren't there?" — Another line from Aliens. (The original line is "My mommy always said there were no monsters - no real ones - but there are, aren't there?")
- "I find your lack of page disturbing..." — Said by Dr. Frank Sloth, in reference to Darth Vader in Star Wars. The original quote: "I find your lack of faith disturbing..."
- "This is an ex-page, it has shuffled off its mortal coil..." — A reference to the Monty Python skit, "Dead Parrot". ("This is an ex-parrot, it has shuffled off its mortal coil.")
- "No more pages, Dr. Jones! No more pages!" — Refers to Indiana Jones when Willie says, "No more adventures with you, Dr. Jones." (Temple of Doom)
- "My brain hurts!" — A Monty Python quote, showing a mutant Kackeek.
- "That's no page. That's a 404." — Reference to a quote Star Wars. (Obi-Wan Kenobi, upon seeing the Death Star, says, "That's no moon. That's a space station.")
- "Neopia... we have a problem..." — Reference to the famous quote from Apollo 13 (film). "Houston, we have a problem."
- "Quoth the server, "404." " — A line from the well known poem, "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe ("Quoth the raven, "Nevermore.") This message appears with a picture of Eliv Thade in a
jerkin.

- The book "I Love Moo-Cee" is titled after the popular 50s sitcom, I Love Lucy
- There's a rare drink which can only be obtained in the "Golden Dubloon" restaurant. The drink is called Man O War, a reference to the armed navy vessel.
- There's a land in The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin called Grundo.
- There's a bird petpet that looks a lot like Fobs from The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin.
- There's a petpet called Navibot that used to look a lot like Metools/Metaurs from Mega Man games. Its picture was changed after the user NeoShiaoran informed The Neopets Team that Capcom doesn't make it easy for people who make things that resembles their own. The navi part of it may also be a reference to Net navis of Megaman: Battle Network.
- Another Zero Wing reference appears in the description of the U-Bend of Justice, which "will reflect between 80% and 100% of water-based attacks to an opponent, for great justice!"
- The Pan Galactic Gargle Slushie is a reference to the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, described as the best drink in existence in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
- "Blue Pop Slushie" and "Sour Blue Slushie" have the description "It is blue da da dee da da da..." which are the lyrics to "Blue," a popular Nu-Italo song by Eiffel 65.
- The Huggy Bear, a petpet that is a combination of the Huggy and the Cool Purple Teddy Bear, references the character Huggy Bear from the television show Starsky and Hutch.
- The item "Pink Poogle Toy" has the description "This lovely pink poogle moans about banner ads and frozen accounts when you squeeze it! :P." This pokes fun at the popular Neopets fansite Pink Poogle Toy, which has a reputation for its users expressing their displeasure about these aspects of the game on its forums.
- Pets can be painted with the Strawberry Fields Forever paintbrush, and one NeoTitle available for use on the Neoboards is "Magical Mystery Pet." Both names are taken from Beatles songs.
- The description of the item Old Rotten Right Shoe ("Who throws away a shoe, honestly?") comes from the movie Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, in which the title character says, "Who throws a shoe? Honestly!"
- An item called "The Stuff" (Description: The stuff doubles in size daily. Eat it before it takes OVER THE WORLD!!!) is a reference to the 1985 movie "The Stuff" starring Saturday Night Live alumnus Garrett Morris. It is also somewhat similar to The Blob
- An item named "Half Coconut Shell" (Description: "When you bang two of these together they make a nice clip clopping sound") originates from the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, creating the sound of horse trotting as the Knights travelled.
- "Cymbal Bashing Mynci Toy" may be a nod to Stephen King's short story, "The Monkey" and/or Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera and/or Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- The Griefer petpet could be a reference to General Grievous from Star Wars.
- The Walking Carpet petpet is a reference to Chewbacca from Star Wars (In A New Hope, Princess Leia demands that someone "get this walking carpet out of my way!") The description (Rawwwroooorghhhh!) is Chewbacca's signature growl.
- Breadfish may be a reference to the Flash movie on the Weebls Stuff site. [1] There is another item called Anchovy Loaf that closely resembles the breadfish in the video.
- Rock, a Petpet, was originally called Pet Rock, a reference to the 1970s fad, where ordinary gray pebbles from a builder's supply store were marketed as if they were live pets. The new name "Rock" has seen a significant Neopoint price increase for this pet, perhaps because of the new name's closer connections with several popular interests: Rock Music, wrestler/actor The Rock, and Saint Peter.
- Shark Sandwich is a reference to an album by Spinal Tap.
- The description of Metallic Sun Staff (Unleash the power of the sun with this magical staff!) may be a reference to the slogan of the drink Sunny Delight.
- The description of the Intergalactic Ice Cream Cone is "Sold as the Ice Cream of the Future!", the Dippin' Dots slogan.
- The description for Pumpkin Cookies notes that they have a crunchy frog interior, a reference to Monty Python's Whizzo Chocolates sketch.
- The Amulet of Inevitable Betrayal is a reference to Wash the pilot's monologue in Joss Whedon's television series Firefly. In this monologue are the phrases "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" and "Mine is an evil laugh!", which is similar to the item description of "Its laugh is an evil laugh". This was one of several similar references made near the release of the film Serenity, including a trophy being described as "Shiny, Captain" on the editorials page.
- There is a Desert Scroll titled Nune with the item description "This epic tale of survival and victory in the blistering heat of the Lost Desert is a must for everyone.", obviously as a play on words of Dune.
- The description for the Battle Duck is "Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water...", a reference to tagline for Jaws 2.
- The Sheriffs Badge description "Other Neopets will respect your darlings authority with this sparkling sheriffs badge." is a modified quote from South Park's Cartman.
- Cybunny Down is a reference to the book Watership Down, a fictional adventure novel from the perspective of rabbits.
- Pink Doughnut has the description "A Doughnut with pink icing. Mmmm, Homer's favourite." which is a reference to 'The Simpsons'
- The description for 'Snow Pepper' says "Red, cold chili peppers", which is a reference to the popular band, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
- References to The Phantom of the Opera are clearly evident in the collectable cards "The Phantom"[2] and "Riyella"[3], which are clearly versions of Erik (The Phantom of the Opera), and Christine Daaé. Riyella's description refers to her as "the Phantom's true love".
- The ghostkerchief petpet looks exactly like a teruterubozu, a traditional Japanese doll charm hung outside before important events to ward off bad weather.
- The Blumaroo Statue, a very rare gardening item, says "This Blumaroo has been waiting months for Aslan to arrive". This refers to "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" in the Chronicles of Narnia series where the lion/god Aslan frees all the creatures turned to stone in the White Witch's garden.
- The book "Taming the Hair" refers to William Shakespeare's play "Taming of the Shrew".
- The item "Bubbling Burping Juice" appears to refer to the drink of the same nature in the original film of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
- The item "Green Tea" which appears in capsule form is a reference to the line from the Hitchikers guide to the galaxy "Tea is now obtainable from most Megamarkets in a variety of easy-to-swallow capsules."
- The item "Blue Oyster" may be a reference to the band Blue Öyster Cult
- The description for the Vacumatic 9000 petpet, "It certainly does suck!" is a reference to the movie Wayne's World
- The petpet Pfish may be a reference to the band Phish.
- The item 'Kacheeps' is a reference to the marshmallow ducks, Peeps
- The item 'Super Hero Usuki' is dressed up in a similar fashion to the DC Comics hero Wonder Woman

[edit] NeoQuest II
- The figure shown on the Neoquest page is dressed like Willy Wonka, and the one for Neoquest II resembles the Architect. Neoquest 2 takes place in a simulator, which may be construed as a similar to the "Matrix".
- Throughout the game, a "matrix" like tile will randomly appear.
- The slogan of NQII, "Live in your world, Get eaten by a vampire bearog in mine", is similar to the PlayStation 2 slogan "Live in your world, play in ours". Furthermore, there is no actual Vampire Bearog that has yet been found.
- Neoquest II has some interesting "features," and its creator has said that the four main characters are named after characters on the Everquest test server.
- Neoquest II also features the "Lost City" of Phorofor (or 404).
- The passphrase for the Lost City of Phorofor is "ad ro un ta en" which is made up with syllables of "En taro adun!", from the protoss race from StarCraft.
- Chia Oscuro, a city in Terror Mountain of NQII, is spelled like chiaroscuro, a technique of using light and dark in a work of art. It can also be translated from Italian as "Dark Chia." Alternatively, in The Tale of Despereaux, a rather lonely rat is named Chiaroscuro.
- After you have finished a battle, Mipsy will often complain about her shoes, even though she is not wearing shoes until much later in the game.
- The final boss of Terror Mountain, Scuzzy, is the widest-spread pronunciation of SCSI (Small Computer System Interface).
- Selasa's words "I fell victim to one of the classic blunders, right after the ones about land wars in Tyrannia and going in against Skeiths when death is on the line--never buy land in the desert." are a reference to Vizzini's dialog in The Princess Bride: "You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is: 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia.' But, only slightly less well known is this: 'Never go in against a Sicilian, when death is on the line!'"
- Vilaria, a dark faerie in Neoquest II, says that she's not evil, but more chaotic neutral. This references the alignment system in Dungeons & Dragons which contains a chaotic/lawful alignment as well as a good/evil alignment. It is also similar to the alignment from ADOM (Ancient Domains of Mystery), in where you can be NC (Neutral-Chaotic).
- Terask, the final boss of NQII, is spelled similar to Tarrasque, [4], a powerful creature in Dungeons & Dragons, or Torrasque, a powerful Ultralisk from StarCraft.
- In the last cutscene of NQII, the crews' uniforms bear a very striking resemblance to the ones from the original Star Trek.

- When completing Defenders of Neopia Series 1, Mission 2, the Ghost Lupe is portrayed as inside a trap very similar to the Ghostbusters' trap.
- A secret level in the game 'Meerca Chase II' is called "Super Extra Hyper Gravity", which is the title of an album released by the Swedish band The Cardigans.
- One of the phrases that randomly pops up during the game Kiss the Mortog is "Ahh, Sonny and Cher, my prize Mortogs!" This is a reference to the BBC comedy series The League Of Gentlemen.
- The name of the flash game "Grand Theft Ummagine" is an obvious reference to the Grand Theft Auto series.
- One of the random phrases uttered by the shopkeeper in Cheeseroller is "I think it's a bit runnier than you'll like it, sir" — a line from the Monty Python cheese shop sketch.
- The Quiggle that runs Neopian Adventure Generator will randomly say "Bring me a shrubbery", a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- At Coltzan's Shrine, your Neopet may randomly say "And to think, Malkus Vile would have got away with it if it wasn't for us pesky Neopets!", a reference to Scooby Doo's infamous/famous line "And I would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids! And that dog, too." Malkus Vile may also be a reference to Daedra Prince Clavicus Vile from the Elder Scrolls series of computer games.
- At Coltzan's Shrine, one of the quips the game may give when no prizes are being awarded is "Your hands begin to glow blue." This phrase comes from an early 1980s computer game called Hack, where the phrase is shown when your character reads a scroll of Confuse Monster.
- In the game "Kiss the Mortog" in Meridell, a lost game results in the message "Game over man... game over", a reference to the movie Aliens.
- Many of the games are versions of classic games such as Neggsweeper (Minesweeper), Snow Wars (Battleship), Korbat's Lab (Breakout), Meerca Chase (Snake), and Flycatcher (Millipede).
- Another one of the games is Plushie Tycoon is which your job is to make and sell plushies, clearly Neopets version of the popular Tycoon games.
- Yet another All your base are belong to us reference is a Kougra shopkeeper designed to look like CATS, the villain of Zero Wing. The original appearance of the character on the New Features page was accompanied by the caption, "All your Neopet are belong to us!"
- When one goes to the Neopian Lottery, the picture that rolls the balls around says "Machine Name: Arthur", etc. This references the British National Lottery where the various lottery machines have names such as Arthur and Guinevere.
- In "Whack-A-Staff-Member" the male staff member with black hair, black t-shirt and black sunglasses frequently says "SMEG" when hit. This is a quote from the British sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, where it is frequently muttered by Lister when angry.
- The game Jolly Jugglers is similar to Tumblepop.
- While playing the game Shapeshifter Sinsi will say 'What do you get if you guzzle on sweets... eating as much as an elephant eats...' This is a reference to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
- In The Castle of Eliv Thade, one of the anagram answers is Batman.
- In the game "Frumball," there is a very rare power-up that will say "Start the level over! D'oh!" This is a reference to The Simpsons. The joke is repeated in "Cheat", where, if you get caught cheating, it reads "[Opponent's name] has caught you cheating! D'oh!"
- The game "Cheat" has the same rules as the game Bullshit
- "You're Fired!" — One of the characters in Whack-A-Staff-Member says this in reference to The Apprentice.
- The Mutant Chia, Florg, who appears in a game called Feed Florg, closly resembles Jabba the Hut from Star Wars. Even more so, though, does the original mutant Chia.
- "Whack-a-Ghost", "Whack-a-Beast" and "Whack-a-Staff-Member" are all Neopian Versions of "Whack-a-Mole."
- Destruct-o-Matches I & II are like the game Collapse.
- The Games Codebreaker and Time Tunnel are like Mastermind.
- On the Adopt-a-Grundo page, at the top it says: "Make sure you never get them wet..." which may be a reference to the movie Gremlins.
- In the Murder Mystery Sky Lodge Puzzle, the final conversation between Maverick and Number 6 is
Number Six:Do you expect me to talk? Maverick:No, Number Six, I expect you to die! This is a parody of the quote from Goldfinger
- The game "Coconut Shy" has the quote "Big ones, small ones, ones as big as your head," which is from the song, "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" by Danny Kaye. This is most likely a reference to the version of the song by Monty Python, however.
- The card game "Go! Go! Go!" is the Neopian version of Shithead.
- When beaten by the Snow Cone in Snow Wars, the snow cone says, "I smirk in your general direction." a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail when the French knight says, "I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"
- A user shopkeeper is titled 'Chia - Bruce Chee' which resembles Bruce Lee.
- The book "The Velveteen Draik" is a reference to the book The Velveteen Rabbit.
- Mastermind in Neoquest looks nearly the same as Hamsterviel from Lilo and Stitch
- The item called "cronballs" is based on the quote You like that cronball, a reference to Where No Duck Gone Before.
- The mutant Harris may have been modelled after Stitch from the film Lilo & Stitch.
- More Database issues--a lot of you guys--please don't hold your breath is a parody of TreeHouse of Horror II.
- The discontinued petpet Sugar Rush somewhat resembled a Cola-cola can.
- In 2006, WWE wrestler John Cena made a rap about fellow wrestler, Adam Copeland saying "Get over the fact that your Chia pet died."

- The flavour text on the Oubliette card contains a quote from Labyrinth: "It's a place where you put people to forget about them."
- The art on the "Fire and Ice Blade" card imitates that of the "Sword of Fire and Ice" card from Magic: The Gathering.
- The art of "Rainbow Pteri" from the Mystery Island Neopets TCG expansion mirrors the famous "Birds of Paradise" from the Magic: The Gathering TCG.
- The flavour text on the "Armoury of Kass" is "We need swords. Lots of swords." This is a reference to a line from The Matrix ("We need guns. Lots of guns.")
- The flavour text on the "Tagobo Potion" card is "DRINK ME", a reference to Alice in Wonderland.
- The flavour text on the "Petrification" card is "Scared? I was petrified!", a reference to The Wizard of Oz.
- The recent Lost Desert and Altador plots, both involve tombs. When you vist the interior of them, you encounter a creature called "Gelatinous Non-Cube". This is a reference to Dungeons & Dragons in which you can encounter a creature called a "Gelatinous Cube".
- The flavour text on the "Trading Post" card (Mystery Island expansion) is "Yes, I told ten people about it, and I found a paint brush...it truly does work!" is a metareference to the problem of chain letters on the site.

- The Neopet species, Chia, is a play on the popular Chia Pet of the 90s. It is an oblong pet with a patch of fur on its head.
- When visiting The Virtupets Space Station, this message may show on the page: "The loudspeaker booms 'All garbage disposals on the detention level will be shutting down after lunch'" This is a reference to Star Wars, when Luke, Han and Leia were trapped in a garbage disposal. Luke: "Shut down all garbage disposals on the detention level!"
- Donna uses the name Poptart when participating in staff competitions.
- In the Gallery of Evil, the creature on the book has a Pikachu in its mouth.
- The "YOUR LUPE A SPLODE" avatar references the Homestar Runner quote "YOUR HEAD A SPLODE," as does the Neopets Team's "TNT ... A SPLODE" avatar. Another avatar, in which a Halloween Cybunny is "Garlic'D," references Teen Girl Squad. Yet another has a green two-headed dragon breathing fire, accompanied by the caption "Burninate", which is a reference to Trogdor from Homestar Runner.
- Neopets has a number of references to the 1967 UK television series The Prisoner, such as prisoner number five in the game "Cellblock" being named "Number Five" (a reference to Patrick McGoohan's character "Number Six"). In fact, Neopets co-creator Adam Powell uses the name "Number Six" when participating in staff competitions, and the Number Six Plushie, a formerly rare item that was made available during the month of Celebrating (December) to all Neopians, seems to be modeled visually after him. There is also an avatar one can obtain of him by having the same number of NeoPoints as he does.
- One of the teachers in the Neoschool is Mr. Lupid (a Lupe), who some players believe may be a reference to Remus Lupin in Harry Potter.
- The game includes a species of dragon called "Scorchio", a popular catchphrase from the BBC's comedy The Fast Show.
- The Haunted Weaponry store's tagline "Big! Strong! Wow!" is taken directly from the fictional company Tada-O, whose tagline was "Big! Strong! Wow! Tada-O!" in Earth & Beyond.
- In the Chocolate Factory store, the shopkeeper's attire resembles that of Willy Wonka as portrayed by Gene Wilder in the 1971 movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and the shop's tagline is "Nobody ever goes in ... nobody ever comes out, but we sell chocolate by the truckload!" [5]
- The "Rebuild Maraqua" animation in the Year 6 Advent Calendar features various Neopian bands playing a charity single similar to Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?".
- Bands playing at the Tyrannian Concert Hall include M*YNCI (*NSYNC), Blue Kacheek Group (Blue Man Group), Sticks N' Stones (Guns N' Roses), Chomby and the Fungus Balls (Josie and the Pussycats, The Beach Boys).
- The Neotitle that reads, "No soup for you!" is a reference to the Seinfeld episode in which the soup Nazi tells Elaine, "No soup for you!".
- On the About Us page, under the Content staff, there is an entry saying "Keith (he's mental)". This is a reference to The Office where David Brent is showing a temp worker the staff in Wernham Hogg.
- When Richard Whiteley, former presenter of Countdown, died, the Lenny Conundrum game featured a Countdown Conundrum-style puzzle, a mention of Whiteley, and a Chia dressed up to look like him.
- The Neopet Usul is named after a character in the "Dune" novel by Frank Herbert.
- Sometimes when you visit the scratchcard kiosk in the deserted fairground, Sidney will say "Wanna buy some pegs, Dave?" This is a mixture of a catchphrase and another quote from a character called Papa Lazarou from The League of Gentlemen, to whom Sidney bears a slight resemblance.
- The company profile for Lupe Consolidated names its CEO as Lupert Murdoch, owner of Neocorp. This is a reference to Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp.
- On Battle Faerie Day, one of the captions reads 'Pit your Scarblade or Kass Action Figures against this new Battle Figure Action Figure in a duel to the PAIN', a reference to The Princess Bride.
- The quote in the 220th Neopian Times Editorial is "Finally... this trophy can fulfill its density, destiny". This is a quote from Back to the Future.
- The slogan of the robot petpet shop is "It's your metal pal who's fun to be with!" a reference to the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, who define a robot as "Your plastic pal who's fun to be with".
- The pet name Wocky comes from the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll, as does the pet named "Jubjub" which is mentioned in the poem as a Jubjub Bird.
- Adam, one of the creators of Neopets, used to have the quote "I'm scared of mice and spiders, but oh-so-much greater is my fear that one day the two species will cross-breed to form an all-powerful race of mice-spiders who will immobilize human beings in giant webs in order to steal cheese" on his user lookup (Borovan) but it was recently removed. The quote comes from Spaced, an English sitcom that was written by, and starred, Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson.
- There are Kadoaties in the Kadoatery called Q, Riker and Picard, a reference to Star Trek. Additionally, Kadoaties named Fry, Bender and Leela, all references to Futurama. There is also a Kadoatie named Kikkkiiyyoooo!! in Kadoatery, possibly a reference to InuYasha. The Kadoaties named Kaylee, Mal, Inara, Simon, and River are all references to Firefly and Serenity, the Kadoaties named Kunai, Kakashi, and Sasuke are references to the popular anime and manga Naruto, and the Kadoaties named Unknown Entity, Mr. Smite and VanCleef are references to the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft.
- A shop blog portrays a pirate-like Blumaroo with the name of Orlando Blumaroo, a reference to Orlando Bloom in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean".
- In the game The return of the Return of Dr. Sloth, the rank "Cosmic Delivery Boy" is a reference to Fry's job in Futurama.
- The Mynci's default petpage shows a piece of the chorus from Burn in Hell, a Twisted Sister song.
- In the recent Altador Plot, you are asked to join the 'Punch Club', and are told "the first rule of Punch Club is that you don't talk about Punch Club... unless someone asks, then you can talk about it. Just don't bring it up. Unless you overhear someone else talking about it, because, like, they clearly already know about it." This is a reference to the film Fight Club, where its first (and the second) rule is not to talk about Fight Club.
- Also in the Altador Plot, when visiting a farm you try to make a windmill turn by pulling a lever. The farmer gets annoyed at you and yells, "WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!" which is a Futurama quote. The same quote appears in the description of the book 'The Way Windmills Work'.
- The Yurble janitor in the Altador plot -- he has red hair, a green kilt and an "uncontrollable rage" problem -- is an homage to Willie the janitor of The Simpsons. The text describing him says, "He looks strangely familiar", a joke that goes over the heads of those unfamiliar with the character, though it was thought to tie in with the fact that he was also a foreman and chef.
- The "secret" game Jelly Blobs of Doom plays similarly to another game called !Fishy!
- In the Altador plot, a certain puzzle required players to enter a number. Upon entering 50196 (69105 backwards), it would respond with "It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue," a direct quote from the Zork game.
- In the Altador Plot, There is a "Spectral Minitheus" guarding a necklace. This is a reference to Dungeons & Dragons in which "Spectral Minion" is a Monster template. Also the example monster in one of the guides is a minotaur, which the petpet Minitheus is based on.
- The Altador Plot also has a side story involving an astronomy club. Viewing the Astronomy club page after completing the Protector's step in the plot will prompt you to pull a tab on the club president's neck. This leads to a scene which is a parody of Scooby-Doo where you unmask the club president and reveal him to be "Old Man Jenkins". He even utters the infamous "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you pesky kids!" line.
- When joining the Altador Cup there was an option of taking a quiz to find out what team to join. One of the questions was "What do I have in my pocket". One of the possible choices was "a ring?". This is a reference to "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien.
- The Neopet, Aisha, sounds the same as Ayesha, the Siamese cat belonging to Susan Kay's "Phantom," also known as "Erik" or the "Phantom of the Opera." The Neopet also resembles a cat.
- In the Neopedia article for Zygorax the Grundo, it has the quote "Listen, I can't get involved! I've got work to do! It's not that I like Evil Fuzzles... I hate them!" This is a reference to Luke's line in Star Wars, "Listen, I can't get involved! I've got work to do! It's not that I like the Empire... I hate them!"
- The Fun Image Here in the Gadgadsbogen page features a banana-like fruit which closely resembles the infamous Dancing Banana of Peanut Butter Jelly Time fame.
- If you look at the Chia flash animation, their simple dance is similar to the Badger, Badger, Badger dance by Weebls-Stuff. However, the Chia animation was created at the conception of Neopets, several years before the Weebl animation came out; it is not a real reference.
- In the Kadoatery, the Kadoaties named Misato and Shinji are most likely references to the Neon Genesis Evangelion characters.
- A Blumaroo Fun Image dances just like the infamous Dancing Banana of Peanut Butter Jelly Time fame.
- In the plot "Sacrificers", different quotes are said. Return of the Coconut is a reference to Star Wars. "Burn, Baby, burn" is also a quote muttered in Present Life.
- In the Brucey B and the Lucky Coin plot, Capara the Kyrii is in the image on Day 9, Page 1. Her picture may be a reference to the episode called The Mysterious Voyage of Homer of The Simpsons.
- The neopets character Mr. Krawly may be a reference to the Ozzy Osbourne song "Mr. Crowley", the character of Crowley in Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, or the namesake of both, Alastair Crowley.
- Yet another Labyrinth plot device borrowed: a two-headed Hissi in a maze: one head lies, the other head tells the truth. You must poke the heads with a stick to see which is lying, in order to find the proper path.
- In Jetsam day 2006 under the newsflash says DUN DUN DUN DUN... this is the same horror auto from Jaws
