[edit] Sword of Tengu

A weapon crafted in ancient Japan, the Sword of Tengu is a most unusual artifact. It's blade was forged by Japanese master smiths on the orders of the Shredder, shaped from a piece of metal that, according to him, "fell from the heavens." He named it the Sword of Tengu, weapon of those descended from goblins. With the sword, the Shredder helped usher in the Tokugawa Shogunate in Japan. However, by some unknown incident the Sword was lost.

The Sword eventually turned up as a Japanese museum exhibit, and was stolen by the Foot Clan. Channeling the Sword's power, they created a powerful sonic cannon. Fortunately, they were stopped by the Turtles, who then took the Sword back to their lair. They also took a protective glove that would defend the wielder from the Sword's powerful energies, an effect duplicated by the Shredder's armor.

The Sword was carried by the Turtles and Splinter into the Shredder's skyscraper fortress. Splinter himself wielded it against the Mystic Foot Ninja, but while he was able to wield it without the glove due to being a master of martial arts, it caused him to fall ill until he was healed by the Utroms. Leonardo wielded the sword against the Shredder (who was wielding Leo's katanas). With the Sword of Tengu, Leonardo severed the Shredder's head, believing him dead. Donatello then hooked the Sword up to the building's power grid, destroying it and wrecking the skyscraper's systems.

[edit] Battle Nexus War Staff

The mystical weapon of choice for the Daimyo of the Battle Nexus, the War Staff is an artifact of great power. The t-shaped wooden relic has the power to fire off energy blasts, cast spells, and manipulate time and space. It is also incredibly dangerous, as its use by a being of evil will lead to a warp ripping open that could consume the entire multiverse.

The War Staff first became prominent in the lives of the Turtles when the Daimyo used it to drive off the evil Drako during his attack on Splinter, saving the lives of not only the rat sensei but also of Usagi Yojimbo. This caused Drako to seek the Staff as his own, prompting him to ally himself with the Daimyo's son, the Ultimate Ninja. The two got their chance to seize power when the Turtles arrived for their first Battle Nexus competition.

Striking swiftly and stealthily, the two poisoned Leonardo and framed Splinter for the attempted murder of the Daimyo. Drako then demanded the War Staff he'd been promised, but the Ultimate Ninja never planned to give it to him. Things came to a head when Drako attempted to steal the Staff, and the Ninja tried to stop him. Since Drako had spent years studying the use and powers of the Staff, he was able to seize it and use it against the Ninja and the arriving Turtles.

Unfortunately, the evil in Drako's heart caused the War Staff to tear open a warp in time and space which threatened to consume all present. The Daimyo was able to use the Staff to seal the warp, but not before both Drako and the Ultimate Ninja were drawn into it. Later, Leonardo attempted to use the War Staff to recover his missing family, but was unable to do so. It was then stolen by Ultimate Drako, the fused version of the two villains, and used in coordination with Lord Simultaneous' Time Sceptre to trap the Turtles in a battle with unstoppable opponents. Fortunately, the Turtles recovered both artifacts, and the Time Sceptre worked together with the War Staff to restore order.

[edit] Time Sceptre

The power source for Lord Simultaneous, the Time Sceptre is a powerful artifact resembling a metal bar with a large hourglass on the end. The Sceptre has the ability to manipulate time and space, similar to the Battle Nexus War Staff. However, unlike the Staff, the Time Sceptre has a mind of its own, and can actually command its non-sentient counterpart.

The Turtles first encountered the Time Sceptre when they were recruited by Lord Simultaneous' apprentice. Going back in time, they did battle with Savanti Romero, who wanted the Sceptre for himself. However, it was stolen by his confidant Ultimate Drako. This mismatched entity later used the Sceptre to scatter the Turtles across time and space: Michelangelo to a world where he and his brothers were superheroes, Raphael to the high speed world of Planet Racers, Donatello to an alternate future where the Shredder ruled Earth, and Leonardo to the world of Usagi Yojimbo. Splinter was sent to the Battle Nexus, where he was strangely imprisoned.

When Leonardo failed to retrieve his lost family using the War Staff, Ultimate Drako stole it and combined its powers with those of the Time Sceptre. However, the Turtles were able to recover both. The Time Sceptre, sensing the emotions of everyone, weighed good and evil and decided to set things right. Working together with the War Staff, it restored time and space to their proper order. It was then recovered by Lord Simultaneous, who used it to revive the Ultimate Ninja as a young boy.

Simultaneous' apprentice later used the Time Sceptre to take herself and the Turtles back to the Cretaceous Period to battle Savanti Romero. However, the Time Sceptre somehow got overheated, and was then stolen by Savanti. He planned to use the Sceptre in a ritual that would alter Earth's orbit, causing it to avoid the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs and erasing the modern timeline. However, he was thwarted, and the Time Sceptre fell into a lake. Later, Michelangelo recovered it from inside a fish that he caught for the Turtles' dinner, and the group returned to their own time.

In the original comic series the events concenring the frist encouter with the time staff where nearly the same. The Turtles meet Lord Simultaneous' appretance is wwho is on the run from her master for distrubing the scepter and travle back in time. They do encouter Savanti Romero but are joined by Cerebus the Arrdvark(the star of his own underground comic). When Simultaneous finds them he easily defeats Romero, who finds the Time Scepter is no match for Simultaneous' Mystical Digital Watch. In the 2003 series episdoe a arrdvark appears in a background scean it's face similar to Cerebus'.

A different version of this item was the basis for the third movie.

[edit] Heart of Tengu

A magical medallion that was formerly in possession of the Shredder. The Heart of Tengu allows its wielder control of the Mystic Foot Ninja, as they cannot touch it or whoever is in physical contact with it. It also provides its holder with protection from any physical attack. Karai uses the Heart to control the Mystic Ninja following the Shredder's banishment, but they rebel at her authority. This leads them to contact Agent Bishop, whom they trick into thinking that the Heart is really an archive of alien technology that will aid his research. Bishop forces the Turtles to retrieve it, in exchange for a cure for the badly mutated Donatello. They recover it and deliver it to Bishop, but when Baxter Stockman attempts to analyze it, it is shattered.

[edit] Turnstone

The Turnstone is magical gem that can turn your thoughts and desires into reality. Created by Ryan Brown and Stephen Murphy in the pages of their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures title, the stone is responsible for creating the mutant reptile Leatherhead.
