The sisters' old house passed down for four generations. According to the series, the existing structure was built in 1906 after the Great Earthquake of San Francisco, but Paige mentioned to inquiring reporters in season eight that the original house was built in 1898. Since the ground is exactly situated at the center of five essential life elements (wood, earth, water, fire, metal), it is considered by many as a spiritual nexus, and its power can accessed by good or evil. The Charmed Ones' great grandparents, the Baxters, made sure it would not be abused and bought the land and built the manor. There had been several times that demons wanted to abuse the power of the Nexus, like Cole and Zankou, but after they tried to invade it to their advantage, the sisters managed to keep the shadow underground with a spell that their grams, Penny, taught Phoebe when she was little. The Nexus has given the girls an extra power boost to vanquish the Source and many other demons. However, in the end, Piper, Phoebe and Paige Matthews had no choice but to destroy it so no one will ever have access to it. The Charmed Ones used a spell called "How to Banish a Suxen" or the Nexus spelled backwards, provided by the Elders in the Halliwell Book of Shadows if in any case the good ones would lose control of the Nexus. The Halliwell Manor has been adored by many for its location, grandness and beautiful Victorian architecture. In season 1, it was visited by Professor Whittlesey of Berkely University. Phoebe and Wyatt are the only Halliwell witches born in the manor, and that explains their susceptibility to turning evil. In reality, the house is not located in San Francisco where the series is set. The real house can be found in a private property in Los Angeles and its interior is largely different from the ones used in the show. The real house has been used many times for exterior shots only. It is located at 1329 Carroll Ave in the Echo Park Section of Los Angeles.

There are four bedrooms, each for one of the sisters. The biggest room used to belong to Prue, but when Piper and Leo got married in season 3, Prue changed rooms with the newlyweds. Prue's room is now occupied by Paige after the former's death. One of the spare rooms (presumably Grams' bedroom before she died) was converted to be Piper's sons' nursery. Phoebe also has a bedroom. The very spacious attic houses the Book of Shadows and many items of old furniture, and the door was always kept locked before Grams' death in 1997. However, most of the potions and wicca ingredients are kept in the kitchen, which is Piper's domain. The basement is the store room for more furniture, and it used to house Prue's dark room for developing her photos, and Phoebe's training room for her martial arts lesson. The Woogyman also used to dwell under the earth underneath the manor's basement. The other rooms in the manor are the elongated dining room, the family room, the conservatory or the sun room, the living room, the foyer, and outside, a flower garden where the family sometimes hangs out. Lately also, we have seen the garage for the first time, right before Leo was taken away by the Angel of Destiny.

A trademark of the show is the front door closing magically, which Prue started at the pilot and season 1 finale, and it's been magically closed every season finale ever since (Seasons 1 & 2 - Prue; Season 3 - Shax; Season 4 - the Angel of Destiny; Season 5 - Chris Halliwell; Season 7 - "Prue's ghost"; Season 8 - Piper's granddaughter) with the exception of season 6, when they closed the doors of the delivery room at the San Francisco Memorial Hospital where baby Chris was born.

  • P3

Piper Halliwell's club, which opened in the beginning of season two, after Piper left Quake at the end of the first season. Prue and Phoebe helped fund and start the club and its opening was monitored by Piper's ex-beau, Dan Gordon, who was her new neighbor then. In season 4 in the episode "Size Matters", the club was under new management and it was renamed The Spot but was changed back to P3 at the end of the episode.

  • Magic School

A school for children with good magic, protected by good magic that no one can be killed by evil on its grounds. It was started by one of the most powerful elders, Gideon, who could manipulate the rules in Magic School as he was able to kill his own assistant inside the school. Paige became headmistress after Gideon's demise and when she resigned, the newly-human Leo briefly took over. It was invaded by demons after Zankou was able to breach the school's protective spell when he stole the Haliwell's Book of Shadows at the end of Season 7. On the last episode of the series, it is revealed that the sisters reclaimed magic school, allowing magical children to study and learn there once again.

The most famous students that appeared in the school are: Zachary (Dean Shelton) - a telepath, Enola (Elena Finney) - a shaman, Duncan (Blake Bashoff) - a conjurer, Ben (Tac Fitzgerald) - a grad student, Eddie Mullen (Bug Hall) - a witch lost 20 years ago, Ryan (James Immekus) - one of Leo's proudest students and Jen (Kimberlee Peterson) - one of Leo's proudest students.

Other students are: Herman (J. Anthony Woods) - a conjurer, Slick (Adam Hendershott) - a shapeshifter, Quentin (Mitchah Williams) and Sara (Linda Tran) - both telekinetic, Simon (Kenneth Schmidt) - a boy who used to pick on Duncan, and Dan Mullen (Dennis Flanagan) - Eddie Mullen's older brother who died 20 years ago.

[edit] Returning locations

  • San Francisco Police Station

Andy Trudeau and Darryl Morris were working as detective partners here. Although Andy was killed at the end of season 1, Darryl stayed there and was promoted as Lieutenant in season 5.

  • Bay Mirror

Phoebe's workplace as a famous advice columnist since season 4. It was bought by young dotcom millionaire Jason Dean, who later became Phoebe's boyfriend.

Contacts with the Elders by Leo, Paige and Chris was often made on the top of the bridge since season 6. In season 7, this is where Leo "fell from grace" and became a mortal. In season 8, Henry proposed to Paige and she accepted.

[edit] Non-human locations

  • "Up There"

The realm "up above" where the Elders, Whitelighters, and possibly other good beings stay or converge. It never had a proper name in the series. Among the Charmed Ones, Piper is the only one who has been to the Heavens many times, first at the end of season two, then when the Charmed Ones helped the Elders vanquish the warlock Eames (season three), and after Leo and Piper got married, they were welcomed by the Elders during the reception Up There. Piper also went up there when she became the Earth Goddess in season five right after Leo became an Elder. Paige, meanwhile, has not been to the heavens yet, even though she is working now as a Whitelighter.

  • The Underworld

The world of demons, monsters and evil beings. Its structure is completely chaotic. It first appeared graphically in season two.

  • Unknown places

There are certain unknown locations in the series, which exist outside the human world and the realms mentioned above. Such locations are the location of the Tribunal, the Fortress of the Fairy Tale Keeper and the location of the Avatars.

  • The Demonic Wasteland

The world where all demons go after being vanquished. There, average demons are destroyed as they arrive, leaving only their powers, which manifests as a cloud of sapphire orbs. A snakelike monster (there may be more than one) prowls the wasteland as the primary predator, and it feeds on the demons' powers and essence for all eternity. Demons with souls (such as Cole Turner) are not destroyed upon entering, however are continuusly pursued by the snake-monster. These demons may also collect the powers of other demons that arrive. In the end of season 4, Cole is sent to the wasteland, where he gets powers from vanquished demons and eventually kills the snake-monster. The monster isn't picky about its food and will also devour non-demon beings (it tried to eat Phoebe).

[edit] Other locations

  • Buckland's Auction House

Prue's work place where Rex Buckland and Hannah Webster pretended to be owners of the Auction House in attempt to get to the sisters' powers (season one). After their vanquish, Prue remained to work there until the middle of the second season.

  • Quake

Piper's old workplace where she was the head chef and manager (season one), after she quit her job as a teller in a bank. Realising that working for someone is not her dream, she quit the job and opened P3. She again realised she loved cooking too much and opened her own restaurant.

  • South Bay Social Services

When Paige first appeared, she was working as a social worker assistant. Paige dreamed about becoming a social worker, but the day she was finally promoted, she decided to quit in order to focus more on witchcraft (season four).

  • San Francisco Memorial

When Piper got a fatal flu, she was sent to this hospital (season two). This is also where Paige checked Phoebe in when a darklighter injured her (Season six). Chris was also born here (season six).

  • 415 Magazine

Prue's third workplace, after the Museum of Natural History and Bucklands Auction House. This is where she realized her lifelong dream of becoming a professional photographer (season three). Later on, two years after Prue's death, Phoebe, who had, by then, become a celebrity, was profiled by 415 and made its cover and centerfold (season five). 415 appeared twice in season eight: first, Piper's alter ego-lookalike, Maya, appeared on its cover. A few episodes later, the magazine approached Piper for an article about P3.

  • Penthouse

When Cole was possessed by The Source, he and Phoebe moved to the penthouse in order to weaken the Power of Three. Even after he came back from the demonic wasteland, he still lived there. However, the penthouse hasn't appeared again after he was vanquished permanently.

  • Montana House

The Montanas are a family of powerful witches in a feud with the Callaway family for so many generations that no one remembers how it started. After the feud was finally ended, Paige dated a family member, Richard, and temporarily moved in with him in his family's house.

  • Phoebe's condo

Where Phoebe moved to in Season 8 when she wanted independence. It was added to the show primarily as an excuse to create living space for the show's two newer characters: Billie and Christy.
