Much like their real-life counterparts, fictional gemstones are things of beauty, admiration, or curses.

- Castafiore Emerald, The: the eponymous stone from a Tintin adventure, The Castafiore Emerald
- Chaos Emeralds: emeralds of ultimate power in the universe of the Sonic The Hedgehog series of video games
- Colbat Star: a jewel once served as the fuel source for E. Gadd's time machine; later used by Princess Peach to imprison the elder Princess Shroob, from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.
- El Corazon: from the movie Romancing the Stone. Also known as The Heart.
- Elemental Stars, The: four jewels containing the purified essence of alchemy in the Golden Sun RPG series. There is one for each element: the Mercury Star for Water, the Venus Star for Earth, the Jupiter Star for Wind, and the Mars Star for Fire.

- Moon's Tear: A valuable gemstone from Termina's moon in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
- Orb of Aldur: a blue stone which is mounted on the sword of the Rivan king, also known as Cthrag Yaska from The Belgariad and The Malloreon by David Eddings.

- The Quagmire Sapphires: Sapphires belonging to the Quagmire triplets in A Series of Unfortunate Events.
- The Quantum Gemerald: a large, dark green, and appently lightweight gem on display in the New New York city museum in an episode of Futurama. It was first protected by Fry, Leela, and Bender after they became superheros, but was then stolen by them in order to pay the ransom to free Leela's parents.

- Sardion: a milky orange stone which is the opposite of the Orb of Aldur, also known as Cthrag Sardius, from The Malloreon by David Eddings.
- Shikon no Tama: from InuYasha anime series. Also known as The Shikon Jewel or the Jewel of Four Souls. It can increase the power of youkai and humans alike.
