[edit] Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)

Towards the end of the film, the showdown between Austin Powers and Dr. Evil climaxes with:

Dr. Evil: Austin, I am your father
Austin: Really?
Dr. Evil: No, not really. I can't back that up.
Austin: Right. Idiot, yes.

Dr. Evil even uses a similar heavy breathing to Darth Vader when he delivers the line. (It was later revealed in Goldmember that they are related, although they are not father and son.)

Additionally, the teaser trailer is SF themed and references a great space battle, climaxing with the advice "If you only see one movie this year, see Star Wars. BUT, if you see two movies, see Austin Powers." This references the fact that The Spy Who Shagged Me was opening at around the same time as The Phantom Menace.

Notably, the film also opens using the classic text-crawl which is synonymous with Star Wars.

[edit] Back To The Future (1985)

The planet Vulcan however, is a reference to Star Trek.

In the ending scene at the set of Bluntman and Chronic, Silent Bob as Bluntman battles the villain CockKnocker with a green "bongsaber", while CockKnocker (played by Mark Hamill) uses a similar weapon with a penis-shaped handle. After Bluntman is defeated, Jay, in the guise of Chronic, uses a double-edged bongsaber, similar to Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber. During the fight, Jay cuts off his opponent's hand, to which CockKnocker says to the camera "Oh, not again", referring to Luke Skywalker having his hand cut off in The Empire Strikes Back. In the first conversation with Ben Affleck, he refers to the duel between Greedo and Solo. The security guard in the movie studio also talks to Echo Base with his walkie-talkie.

[edit] Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003)

When Bugs Bunny and Daffy go to space to stop Marvin the Martian's actions, Bugs fights against Marvin with a carrot and of there, a lightsaber blade extended out. Also, while Bugs was turning Marvin's assaults aside, he was reading a book called "The Force for Dummies".

[edit] Mallrats (1995)

Silent Bob hanging upside down to put the video tape in the player is a reference to the Wampa ice creature scene Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. Also, Silent Bob tries to make a cigarette fly using "the Jedi mind trick". when Brody sees this he says "The force is strong in this one". Finally, Silent Bob's only line in the movie is "Adventure, excitement... a Jedi craves not these things" which is the same line Yoda said in episode V.

When one of the children asks Quinn if he made up the story, Quinn replies "Of course I did."

[edit] Robots (2005)

In the repair-shop when Rodney says that he can fix Fender’s neck very easy, Diesel finds a voice-box which makes him talk like Darth Vader : ”The Force is strong with this one!” (the line from “A New Hope”, when Darth Vader is trying to get a fix on Luke’s X-Wing fighter) This is interesting because Ewan McGregor, who does the voice of Rodney, plays Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episodes I-III.

[edit] Shrek 3-D (200?)

There are events similar to those of the Battle of Yavin in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope:

  • When the dragon, with Shrek and Donkey riding, is being chased by a stone dragon, Shrek says "This is Red Dragon, we're going in." and then the dragon flies into a trench.
  • Once inside the trench, one of the lines that Donkey says is "Stay on target". This is another line from A New Hope.
  • When they come toward the end of the trench, Donkey says "Fire now!", and the dragon shoots a fireball at the trench wall. The sound of a blaster is heard at that moment.

[edit] Sorority Boys (2002)

When the two guys/girls are swordfighting with dildos, the scene is like a lightsaber fight. Star Wars music is even playing in the background.

[edit] Spaceballs (1987)

The entire movie itself is a parody.

An image of Darth Vader is one of the many split-second images from Earth's media seen inside V'Ger during the spacewalk sequence.

[edit] Team America: World Police (2004)

The bar scene in Cairo is clearly based upon the Cantina scene in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, with the music and the shots of the customers very similar, as well as the background dialogue also sounding like alien voices.

Near the End of the film, the main character Gary approaches the palace while wearing a long brown hooded cloak and proceeds to use a Jedi Mind Trick to distract the guards to enter unopposed. This is a further reference to the scene from Return Of The Jedi, where Luke Skywalker enters Jabba's Palace, while distracting the guards.

[edit] Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

In this James Bond movie, the villain is preparing for Britain to attack China in retaliation for the sinking of Royal Navy ship, and has prepared a newspaper headline reading "The Empire WILL Strike Back!" He says to Bond "What do you think of the title? It isn't even mine..."

[edit] Toy Story (1995)

Buzz Lightyear tells Woody that that Emperor Zurg has been secretly building a weapon with the destructive capacity to annihilate an entire planet (a reference to the Death Star) and that he alone has information that reveals this weapon's only weakness, which is essentially the plot from A New Hope. Also, the scene where Sid Phillips interrogates and tortures Woody is a homage of the scene where Darth Vader does the same to Princess Leia in A New Hope.

[edit] Toy Story 2 (1999)

Many of the sound effects in the opening sequence are directly from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Emperor Zurg identifies himself as Buzz Lightyear's father in a spoof of the same revelation in Empire Strikes Back.

[edit] Wrongfully Accused (1998)

When the usher of a cinema was accommodating a couple, he extracted a lightsaber to indicate their seats to them and when a table falls on Ryan Harrison, it looks like Carbonite Frozen Han Solo's Scene.

[edit] Television

[edit] Arthur (TV series) (1996 - ?)

The episode called Return of the Snowball has a few references. The beginning of the episode says "Recently, in a galaxy far far away...", a reference to the "A long time ago" phrase at the beginning of all six movies. Then, the Return of the Snowball title appears almost in the style of the Star Wars logo, then it zooms off into the distance. Arthur begins narrating, and the resulting scroll resembles the style that also appeared in the movies, as well as in the formal tone of the scrolls. After the scroll finishes, the camera pans down, to a scene that resembles that of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope; however, a UFO appears from the top of the screen and flies off to Earth, in the distance. The episode's title itself is a reference to Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Another episode has one scene where Arthur is playing street hockey. An image of Buster appears behind him in robes similar to those of Jedi. Bester tells Arthur to "Use the Force".

[edit] Alias (2001 - 2006)

  • In episode 11 of the second season, as Marshall saves the day by deploying a parachute hidden within his suit, he proudly (and eagerly) proclaims to Sydney "I'm Marshall Flinkman and I'm here to rescue you!" - a reference to Luke Skywalker in A New Hope.
  • In episode 19 of the second season, as Marshall begins to explain to Jack Bristow his discovery of a hacker in the CIA's network, he hurriedly prefaces the news with, "I was doing some spelunking on the CIA network, mapping it really, just for kicks, and, well, you can relax because 'the death star plans are not in the main computer!'" - a reference to the lower level officer reporting to Darth Vader aboard the Rebel Blockade Runner in A New Hope.

[edit] Angel (1999 – 2004)

In Angel series 2, episode 3 , Gunn talking to Wesley and Cordelia:

Gunn: You two? I find Deevak I'm gonna need more than C3PO and 'stick figure Barbie' backing me up. No offense.
Wesley: Very little taken.

[edit] Arrested Development (2003 – 2006)

George Michael Bluth created a video of himself portraying a Jedi (similar to the infamous Star Wars kid video), which the family watched during George Bluth Sr.'s party. He uses a broom stick, which appears to be a lightsaber. He even quotes certain lines from the movies. The video is used as a comedic reference throughout some episodes.

[edit] Bones (2005 – ?)

A recurring jokes throughout Bones is that Dr. Brennan has no knowledge of popular culture. In one scene Hodgins is wearing a helmet and numerous jokes are made about his resemblance to Darth Vader. When Brennan clearly doesn't get it, Booth says "Please don't tell me you've never seen a Star Wars movie your whole life" to which she replies "I saw one once when I was seven."

[edit] The Boondocks (2005 - ?)

In the episode "Granddad's Fight" Huey recommends that his granddad starts training for his fight with the blind man. Granddad responds "i won't fail you. I'm not afraid." Huey then says "Oh, you will be. You will be. An obvious reference to The Empire Strikes Back. Also, in one scene, the blind man is about to strike Granddad while he is lying on the ground with his cane. Huey blocks the man's strike with his own stick, baring a resemblance to the scene in "Attack of the Clones" in which Anakin saves Obi-Wan from a potentially final blow made by Count Dooku.

[edit] Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 – 2003)

Numerous references, especially in season 6, where the three nerds - Warren, Andrew and Jonathan team up in an attempt to "... take over Sunnydale ..."

Andrew: And then what? You think your little witch buddy's gonna stop with us? (Xander and Anya glaring at him) You saw her! She's a truck-driving Magic Mama! And we've got maybe seconds before Darth Rosenberg grinds everybody into Jawa-burgers, and not one of you bunch has the midichlorians to stop her.
Xander: You've never had any tiny bit of sex, have you?

[edit] CatDog

[edit] Chappelle's Show (2003 – 2006)

In Episode #107 of Chappelle's Show, the shows recurring "Channel 3 News" sketch featured a report on a Jedi sex scandal in which Jedi were being accused of sexually abusing their Padawans (an obvious reference to the Catholic Church's sex abuse scandal). In the report, Yoda could be seen addressing the issue at a press conference, which is cut short by him disappearing from the conference after a video of him seducing a Padawan while they are sniffing cocaine is shown. Due to these accusations, Yoda decides to step down, leaving Mace Windu in charge of the Jedi Council (although Dave Chappelle portrays this character as looking, acting, and sounding like his usual Samuel L. Jackson impression rather than his character from Star Wars). Later in the sketch, Channel 3 anchorman Chuck Taylor interviews an alleged victim of Jedi Master sexual abuse. The interview takes place in a darkened room with an anonymous interviewee with the alias "Jarth Mader" (obviously Darth Vader) where he tearfully recalls his Jedi Master sexually abusing him as a Padawan.

[edit] Cheers (1982 – 1993)

There were several Cheers episodes with the title "Bar Wars", a reference to Star Wars, in which Cheers competed with a rival local bar. On the August 10, 2006 episode, Stephen Colbert was shown jumping around in front of a greenscreen wielding a lightsaber. This was done as part of the Better Know A District segment when he visited California's 6th congressional district where Star Wars creator George Lucas lives. This footage was subsequently edited by fans and their results were posted on the Internet. Colbert featured some of these clips on the August 21 episode and issued the "Greenscreen Challenge" to the public - a contest for who can make the best video from footage originally filmed in the August 10th episode. Lucas himself made an appearance on the October 11 episode to showcase his entry.

[edit] Cold Feet (1997 – 2003)

[edit] Family Guy (1999 – ?)

  • In the episode "Don't Make Me Over", Brian carries Stewie across the mall. Stewie quotes Yoda.
  • In the episode "And The Weiner Is...", a stormtrooper is seen in the gun club, blasting at a standee of Luke Skywalker and missing horribly.
  • In "The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire", Cleveland is fighting Quagmire, and is about to finish him off. Palpatine is there, and he says, "Good, let the hate flow through you."
  • In "Peter, Peter, Caviar Eater", Brian snaps Peter out of his rich snobbery by using a Star Wars Collectible Glass and the story of Lando Calrissian's betrayal. He also does a parody of the famous "I am your father" line.
  • In "Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows", Peter imagines some bird chicks as having the faces of his children. He sees his sons' faces, but at the last one, instead of seeing Meg, he sees Boba Fett's helmet.
  • In "Blind Ambition", the Episode ends with Peter at a ceremony very much like the one at the end of A New Hope, even down to the music and appearances by Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2.
  • In "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein", after Lois says she doesn't trust laser eye surgery, it cuts away to a shot of Luke Skywalker getting ready to perform surgery on a woman with a lightsaber. Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Luke to use the force, which results in the lightsaber stabbing through the woman's head.
  • In "Screwed The Pooch", Peter says "I'll bet all my Star Wars cards...except Boba Fett...no matter how sure I am, I never risk the Fett man"
  • In "He's Too Sexy For His Fat", Peter says his entire family has been fat, and that his Great-Great-Uncle was Jabba the Griffin (Jabba the Hutt)
  • In "Breaking Out Is Hard to Do", Joe chases the Griffins into the sewer. Two TIE fighters fly in front of his helicopter and Joe shoots both of them down.
  • In "The Courtship of Stewie's Father", Peters says "This is worse than the time i had to conduct the Sandpeople choir!" It cuts to him conducting a choir of Tusken Radiers chanting terribly. Peter says "NO, NO, you've got it all wrong!" The sandpeople then run away, and Peter turns to Obi-Wan, who says "The Sandpeople are easily startled, they will be back soon, and in greater numbers."
  • In "PTV", Stewie attacks Osama Bin Laden in the exact manner in which Yoda does when fighting Count Dooku in Episode II. Shortly thereafter, he rides off on his tricycle visiting a number of settings (see episode "PTV" for list) one being a shot from the cockpit of a snowspeeder from the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. The actual movie footage is used.
  • In "Brian Sings and Swings", Meg watches as Chris' hair and face is placed on his head, spoofing the scene in The Empire Strikes Back in which Admiral Piett watches Darth Vader's mask being lowered over his deformed head.
  • In "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story", Peter says "Another thing that grinds my gears is when I can't find the droids I'm looking for". Cut to shot of two stormtroopers eating TV dinners, watching Peter's show. "Yeah! Me too! What gives with that?"
  • In "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story", Stewie parks his rental car outside a hotel, later when he and Brian come out three Jawas are all over it scrounging for parts, Stewie yells, “Utinni! Utinni! Filthy creatures."
  • In "You May Now Kiss The...Uh...Guy Who Receives", Peter Griffin refers to the time he rescued Luke Skywalker. It then cuts to the scene in The Empire Strikes Back where Han Solo finds Luke collapsed on Hoth. In place of Han's Taun Taun is Peter. Han cuts Peter's stomach with Luke's lightsaber while Peter says it's ok cause he just cut the fat.
  • In "Road to Europe", when Brian and Stewie are stranded in the desert, they are forced to cut open a camel to crawl into and stay warm. This is referencing the scene in The Empire Strikes Back, when Han Solo is forced to cut open a Taun Taun and put Luke Skywalker inside to keep him from freezing to death.
  • In "Peterotica". Mr. Pewterschmidt when confronted by a lawyer hits a button to drop him into the rancor pit, but when he comes back up after crushing the Rancor under the gate, like Luke did in “Return Of The Jedi”, Mr. Pewterschmidt remarks, "I didn't realize Greenberg was a Jedi name."
  • In "Chick Cancer" Stewie remarks he will embarrass Olivia than when Luke Skywalker embarrassed a rebel pilot and it goes to the scene from A New Hope when the rebel briefing on the Death Star is happening on Yavin 4 and after Luke Skywalker remarks that it's not impossible to hit the shaft with a proton torpedo to a rebel he comments "Can I talk to you in private for a minute?" and it leads to an argument between them where the rebel remarks to Luke that he "sandbagged" him out there.

[edit] The Fairly Oddparents (2001 – ?)

The TV movie Abra-Catastrophe! begins with a parody of Star Wars, starring Darth Vader and Jar Jar Binks. It includes the famous "I am your father" line from The Empire Strikes Back, but Cosmo pulls off his mask and adds, "Your Godfather!"

In Hard Copy, Timmy makes a magical copy of everything in his catalogue, including Star Wars toys (referred to as Space Wars). This results in "Dark Laser" attempting to take over the world. The ships that Timmy and Dark Laser use resemble a Y-wing and a Star destroyer, respectively. Dark Laser reappears in "Escape from Unwish Island".

In Microphony, Timmy wishes for a microphone that can disguise people's voices. when Chester uses it he says, "Luke, I am your father", a line similar to that from The Empire Strikes Back.

In Movie Magic, Timmy makes a movie to win a Dimmy movie award. There was a part of both his homemade version and the more professional-looking version, where an off-camera character says, "You turned off your targeting computer", a line in A New Hope. The Death Ball in this episode is a reference to the Death Star. In fact, the clip featured in Timmy's movie(s) is a reference to the last part of the Battle of Yavin.

Fanboy and Hamil engage in a variation of the dialogue from the lightsaber duel in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, ending with Hamil making the "Noooo" scream before trying to flee. Mark Hamil actually voiced himself in this scene, Hamil working for WB as the voice actor for the Joker in the Batman Animated Series produced around the same time.

[edit] Futurama (1999 – 2003)

The two policemen who try to arrest Fry at the head museum are using weapons which visually are similar to lightsabers used in the Star Wars film series, however they are functionally more similar to nightsticks.

The Vergon 6 animation at the briefing contains among other things a short animation of the dark matter which resembles the graphics used for the Tie-Fighters onboard the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars - A new hope". The holographic planet itself resembles to great extent the hologram of Endor from "Return of the Jedi".

The scene where Zapp Brannigan is briefing his pilots before attacking the Omicronians is a parody of the scene from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope where Jan Dodonna briefs the Rebel pilots before attacking the Death Star. In addition, the scene where the Planet Express ship flies onscreen with other starfighters mimics the opening of the Battle of Yavin.

The game Fry and Bender play at the beginning of the episode is a parody of Dejarik, the game played by R2-D2 and Chewbacca in Star Wars.

Farnsworth’s line “The Jedi are going to feel this one!” is a reference to the destruction of Alderaan in Star Wars: A New Hope, after which Obi-Wan Kenobi said, “I sense a great disturbance in the Force.” Also...the very end ceremony does bear a slight resemblance to the ending ceremony in "A New Hope".

The InfoSphere constructed by the Brainspawn bears a striking resemblance to the Death Star.

The introduction to the Star Trek Wars include a short reference to "The time all the Star Wars fans disappeared".

In Episode 11: Holloween, Dwight comes to work dressed up as a Sith Lord for Halloween. No one is able to guess what he's supposed to be (Phyllis guesses that the's a monk). Later in that same episode, when Dwight is talking to Michael about who should be fired, he wears the hood on his cloak up and the camera is positioned to his lower left so that only his mouth and chin can be seen, a reference to Darth Sidious' constantly-obscured face in Episodes I & II.

In the episode "Michael's Birthday" from season two, Jim dares Pam to say something into an unattended microphone that is connected the P.A. system in a grocery store. Pam accepts the dare and says "Luke, I am your father" into the microphone. This is of course a quote from Darth Vader in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

[edit] The Powerpuff Girls (1998 – 2004)

In the episode "Boogie Frights", when the Girls went to destroy the Giant Ball of Discotheque, it is like the battle in the Death Star in A New Hope

[edit] That 70's Show (1998-2006)

In the episode fittingly titled A New Hope, an opening scrawl tells of the Forman's financial troubles, and of Eric's adolescence. Afterwards, a pan of a series of machinery leads to a tailpipe, a license plate, and finally the words Vista Cruiser, revealing the machinery to be the underside of Eric's car. Throughout the rest of the episode are many more references, including a dream sequence where Eric imagines himself and others as the characters of the movie. Near the end of the episode, Eric punches a rival, breaking his nose. As said rival cups his face to stop the bleeding, he threatens Eric in a booming voice, and breathes deeply through his hands.

The series features many Star Wars references (most from Eric), to the point where Eric's friends complain when he does so. In one instance, Eric pulls a Millennium Falcon full of action figures from a hiding spot and proceeds to start to act out one of the films, only to stop and cry out "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" to the ceiling when he discovers the Darth Vader figure is missing. Another occurrence features Eric saying "Did Luke Skywalker just lie down when Darth Vader killed Obi-Wan? No, he hopped in his X-Wing and paid a visit to the Death Star!".

[edit] The Simpsons (1989 – ?)

  • In the episode "I Married Marge" when Homer and Marge were dating, they went to see The Empire Strikes Back. On walking out, Homer comments, "who would have thought that Darth Vader was Luke's father?" thus ruining the movie for everyone in line.

  • In "Mayored to the Mob", Mark Hamill guest stars. When Homer is defending the Mayor from attacking gangsters, Hamill says, "Homer, use the fo…". Homer interrupted, asking, "the Force?" Mark Hamill replied, "No! The forks! Use the forks," instructing Homer to use some nearby cutlery to defend himself from an assailant.

  • Mr. Burns has been introduced with The Imperial March in "Marge Gets a Job", "A Star is Burns", and "Gump Roast".
  • The episode "Co-Dependent's Day" features obvious parodies of The Phantom Menace. Bart and Lisa visit and reprimand a famous director named Randall Curtis, who looks like a very short George Lucas, for his unusually alien-politics-centric prequel Cosmic Wars: The Gathering Shadow.
  • A Simpsons video was released in the UK, titled "Bart Wars: The Simpsons Strike Back". It includes a showcase of every Star Wars reference.
  • In the episode "Worst Episode Ever", Martin's mother comes in with a box full of junk ready to sell to Comic Book Guy. He pulls out an original Star Wars Screenplay and a film reel that apparently is an alternate ending in which Luke's father is really Chewbacca, along with Princess Leia's anti-jiggle breast tape.
  • In the episode, "Please Homer, Don't Hammer 'Em", the musical theme Duel of the Fates is used in a stick battle between Bart Simpson and Seymour Skinner, which parodies the lightsaber duels in the prequel films.

[edit] South Park (1997 – ?)

  • In the episode "Weight Gain 4000", Mr. Garrison tells Wendy, "It is too late for me young Wendy" right before trying to shoot Kathie Lee Gifford with a rifle from the book depository. Darth Vader said the same thing to Luke in Return of the Jedi in which Vader said to Luke "It is too late for me, my son".
  • The episode "Starvin' Marvin in Space" has references to Star Wars as well; The opening sequence has the words "Starvin Marvin, in Space!" appearing similarly to the Star Wars crawls and pans down from the stars like the Star Wars sequence does. It also has Sally Struthers appearing and speaking like Jabba the Hut, complete with subtitles and Jabba's pet from Return of the Jedi. The episode also had Kenny frozen in a slab of carbonite (in the same manner as Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) by the U.S. government and was given to Sally Struthers as a gift in order to use her ship to capture the Marklar starship Starvin' Marvin, Stan, Kyle and Cartman were using to transport the members of Starvin' Marvin's village to the planet Marklar.
  • In episode 601, "Freak Strike", the boys ask Geek 1 and Geek 2 to add balls to Butters' chin in exchange for the Avid version of Episode I. Kyle asks the others, "Why the hell would they want that anyway? Episode I sucked balls." To which Cartman responds, "Yeah, it sucked Hairy Butters' chin balls." Also in this episode, Cartman appears on Maury Povich's show pretending to be an out of control child. In an attempt to appear tough, he claims, "What-evah. I digitally put Jabba the Hutt back into the original Star Wars movie! I'll do what I waunt!"
  • In episode 609, "Free Hat", a fake commercial is featured with Trey Parker and Matt Stone discussing the changes they have made to their re-release of the first episode of South Park, the entire commercial being a reference to the re-release of Star Wars Episode IV-VI.
  • In episode 210, "Chickenpox", Cartman sits in a bathtub full of calamine lotion reading aloud a paper he is writing for class. Quote: "I hope that one day America could be more like Endor, where the Ewoks live. Endor is very cool....They have trees and Ewoks, and barbecues, which is why I like Endor more than America."
  • In "4th Grade" Ms. Choksondick goes to seek Mr. Garrison in the where he is hiding and being taught to control the children in a similar fashion Luke Skywalker was taught by Yoda on Dagobah. Mr. Garrison even talks like Yoda at one point and takes Ms. Choksondick to a the infamous dark cave in The Empire Strikes Back.

[edit] Star Trek: Voyager (1995-2001)

The Boushh helmet reappears as a different alien.

An alien called a Bothan appears in the episode "Persistence Of Vision."

A character called Kashyk appears in "Counterpoint". Though the spelling is slightly different, the pronunciation is the same as the Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk.

[edit] Star Trek: Enterprise (2001 - 2005)

In the third season episode "The Forgotten," Trip Tucker says "It'd take a thousand starships like Enterprise to destroy a planet." This a reference to Han's line "It'd take thousand ships, with more firepower than I've-"

[edit] Teen Titans (2003 - 2006)

In the first episode of the fourth season "Episode 257-494" Beast Boy and the rest of the team are in a TV show called "Clash of the Planets." In their journey, the Titans are confronted by a group of droids who ask them to present their identification. Beast Boy then puts on Raven's hood and waves his hand, stating "You don't need our identification," a reference to when Obi-Wan used a Jedi mind-trick on a stormtrooper in A New Hope. However, the attempt failed and the droids attacked them.

In this episode, Control Freak also fights with a weapon resembling a double-bladed lightsaber, although both blades are on one side. He also, while in the TV show, claims to be the father of who appears to be the protagonist of the show, following a long "Nooo!" from him. This scene closely resembles the climactic scene from The Empire Strikes Back. The villain, Baron Ryang, is obviously a spoof of Darth Vader, along with the security droids, which closely resemble Battle Droids.

The title "Clash of the Planets" is a spoof of the title War of the Worlds.

[edit] Tripping the Rift (2004 – ?)

[edit] Anime

[edit] Gundam SEED

Various mobile suits in the Gundam animes include weapons called "beam swords" that function similar to lightsabers. Some suits take the idea further, including double-bladed beam swords, beam scythes, and beam boomerangs.

Specifically in the Gundam series Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny, there are many Star Wars references including:

  • Kira Yamato's status as a coordinator (a genetically enhanced human) gives him exceptional talents piloting a mobile suit despite having no training in one, similar to the role the Force gives Jedi extra awareness while piloting starfighters.
  • Kira Yamato and Cagalli Yula Ahtha, who at first have a potential for a romantic relationship, find out that they are in fact twin siblings. Cagalli also happens to be the fierce princess of her country and Kira a soldier for the Earth Alliance.
  • Athrun Zala and Shinn Asuka's relationship is a mirror to that of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Athrun is a seasoned veteran of war that refuses to take life unless he must, while Shinn is much more reckless with his power. Athrun tries to guide Shinn, but like Obi-Wan and Anakin, the apprentice soon turns on the master.
  • Shinn likewise is influenced by the presence of a powerful political leader who has ulterior motives for the war, like Anakin is influenced by Palpatine.
  • Both series climax with the forces of good attempting to destroy an enemy superweapon, akin to the Death Star.

[edit] Honey and Clover

The romantic comedy anime Honey and Clover has one main character, Shinobu Morita, leaving Japan and working on a sci-fi movie that wins him a "Mocademy Award". He later references the company he worked for as being led by a "Peter Lucas" and that at night, members of the staff would pull out lightsabers and have a duel.

[edit] Video games

[edit] Escape Velocity

  • A Star Wars themed version was created.

[edit] Final Fantasy

In most of the Final Fantasy games, there are two characters named Biggs and Wedge, referring to those characters in Star Wars of the same name.

In Final Fantasy VI, if Locke rescues Celes from South Figaro while wearing a soldier's uniform, Celes remarks that Locke is "awfully short for a soldier". This is quite similar to Princess Leia's remark when Luke Skywalker rescues her from the Death Star's prison in Episode 4. The game also features two characters named Biggs and Wedge, however Biggs was mis-translated as "Vicks" in the American Super Nintendo version.

In Final Fantasy VII, one of the main antagonists is called Red XIII, a reference to the Red Squadron, with his original name being Nanaki. Switch the "N" to the end of the name and you get "Anakin". [citation needed]

[edit] Space Quest

  • In Space Quest III, there is a TIE Fighter that is described as "A bowtie fighter dating back to the cologne wars", a reference to the Clone Wars.
  • The theme song is a spoof on the Star Wars intro theme.

[edit] StarCraft

In StarCraft, enemy units seen in mission 4 of the Terran campaign yell various Star Wars quotes when encountered by the player. Also, the last mission of the Terran campaign revolves around destroying an Ion cannon, which looks very similar to the weapon from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Both StarCraft and its expansion Brood War are divided into 3 separate campaigns, each titled as an 'Episode'.

Protoss Zealots and Dark Templars use Psi Blades and Warp Blades that resemble lightsabers. Psi blades are roughly 2-3 feet long, and are formed from the forearm of the Protoss combatant. The blades are created by the psionic powers of the Protoss, and are focused into a blade by their armor. Because they are mounted on the forearm, the Protoss can use two blades at once, although the Dark Templar typically use 1 blade while the Zealots use 2. The Warp Blades of the Dark Templar appear to be longer than the Psi Blades of the Zealots, and are many times more powerful (Warp Blades do 40 damage, while Psi Blades do 16), although the explanations for this are not known (the Brood War instruction manual merely says that the Warp Blades are modified Psi Blades).
