[edit] Main characters
[edit] Killface
(voiced by Adam Reed)
Killface is a muscular, maniacal super-villain who proclaims that his job is "to complete the Annihilatrix and destroy mankind by driving this vile planet straight into the Sun." He speaks with an "aire of aristrocracy" (an upper-class British accent).
Killface's character is essentially that of an incompetent boss. He feigns interest in the lives of his employees, and occasionally segues into random non sequiturs in attempts to relate to people. He frequently states that he is open to ideas and asks for people's candid opinions, but will immediately become violent and abusive when he actually receives them. He is also quite enduring as he can shrug off a pipe through his lung as though it was nothing. He seems to be rather attracted to Grace Ryan, becoming flustered upon their first meeting. He has recently become blinded after Antagone spit formic acid into his eyes, and remains unaware that Antagone is really Ryan.
[edit] Awesome-X / Xander Crews
(voiced by Adam Reed)
The world's most well known superhero, Awesome-X has recently defeated every supervillain in the world. In his normal life he is Xander Crews, multi-billionaire head of the Crews Corporation. However, Xander doesn't want to go into the world of big business or commit to his beautiful reporter girlfriend, and so looks into a merchandising deal with Killface to keep his "day job" as Awesome-X, which he has come to depend on much like an adrenaline junkie. Xander is impulsive, brash, flakey, and is generally a screw up. He is insensitive to those around him, and is usually verbally abusive to others for no real reason.
Awesome-X maintains a team of cyborg super soldiers, the Xtacles, at five million dollars a year to help him in his endeavors. The cyborgs apparently maintain families and have generous pension plans. They are oblivious to Awesome-X's identity as Xander, and take Awesome-X's oftentimes violent abuse in good humor.
He is a parody of many such superheroes including Batman, with his inheritance of a huge corporation due to the untimely death of his parents, his reliance on gadgets and martial prowess, and his continuous fight for vengeful justice.
It has been stated that Awesome X's only power is control of the Xtacles, in other words, having management skills.
[edit] Major characters
[edit] Stan
As the head of the board of Crews Company, Stan is one of only three people to actually know Awesome-X's secret identity (the other two being his subordinate worker Watley and a prostitute), and is always trying to get Xander to drop his superhero identity. He seems to play a role similar to Alfred, Batman's butler, in providing a voice of reason, which Xander consistently ignores, often resulting in an exasperated "Dammit!" from Stan. Stan does have a darkside, as apparently he has filled the board of directors with his own clones. He's has also set up Xander's death with the Xtacles. It is also implied that Stan has multiple artificial limbs. In one episode, he was shot in the knee, but exclaimed that it didn't hurt because his leg was made of titanium. In the same episode, a metallic sound is made when Stan is kicked in the crotch by Simon. Stan turns on Xander by declaring Crews to be legally dead, thus making Stan the head of the company. He has also now taken the Awesome-X equipment, wanting to take the identity as his own, and now wants to steal Grace Ryan away from Xander.
The board at Crews Company consists of ten people who look and sound exactly like Stan, the only difference being they never say anything apart from "Harrumph!" They have been seen feeding on human flesh.
[edit] Phillip
(voiced by Christian Danley)
Phillip (Phil) is the apparent Annihilatrix Program Manager. He is married to Lorraine, who had a baby seven months ago. Phil appears to be depressed because his wife is still fat after her pregnancy. He receives ample advice from Killface on how to deal with the matter. It is unclear whether Phil is loyal to Killface, or only apathetic to Killface's plans. Phil obeys Killface in whatever scheme is currently in motion, even taking initiative on his own by organizing 'Operation Bad-Habit,' which involved he and Simon sabotaging the other inventors at the inventors' convention with a rocket launcher while dressed as nuns. Yet, Phil is not above making small sarcastic comments to Killface, such as scoffing at the importance of getting Killface's furniture back. Phil is also the only one to question Killface over his plans and not be killed, even after moving into Killface's house, and at the same time filing a lawsuit against Killface. Both of these are because it was recently discovered that Phil has cancer, apparently due to working on the Annihilatrix.
[edit] Sinn
(voiced by Kelly Jenrette)
Sinn is Killface's sexy female minion. She has a robot arm and her speech has an electronic effect, but it is unclear whether she is an android or a cyborg. She and Arthur are romantically interested in each other. She is scantily clad and refers to Killface as "Sire," possible making her a parody of the Bond girls from the James Bond film franchise.
Sinn has been sacked by Killface, being replaced by "Barnaby Jones" (who is actually Xander Crews).
[edit] Arthur Watley
An intern at Crews Company, Arthur Watley was Xander's initial idea for making a new villain, and had his hands removed and replaced by giant crab claws. His head recently sprouted a pair of eyestalks. His body is trying to reject the transplant, so he is always weak and ill. He often lays a clutch of eggs when excited. He lived with his mother. By the beginning of the episode "Blind Faith" he was a complete crab except his head and had moved into the sea. It turns out that the the scientist in a van "chasing him" just wanted to show his buddy the beach." It was then remarked that he was "from Holland."
[edit] Grace Ryan/Antagone
(voiced by Kate Miller)
Grace is Xander's reporter girlfriend. She is a parody of both Vicky Vale and Lois Lane. Much like Lois, she covers Awesome-X's fights against criminals. However, Xander seems to despise her, and treats her like dirt, such as hanging up in the middle of a phone call or cheating on her with a prostitute. Grace also appears to be despised by her own news team, who openly mock her and are not above praying that she fall into a barrel of toxic waste. Grace is also completely unaware of Xander's life as Awesome-X. During a fight on the Annihilatrix while she was interviewing Killface, she fell into several tubs filled with radioactive waste and super-intelligent ants and now glows green and has the ants literally in her brain. This has resulted her in gaining a split personality, Antagone. Antagone is a supervillian with strength proportional to an ant's, command over ants, noticeably enlarged breasts (compared to Grace) and the ability to spit formic acid.
[edit] Simon
(voiced by Mike Bell)
Simon is the son of Killface. He is a slow, emotionally disturbed, gangsta-rap listening, blonde-haired child version of Killface that mumbles everything he says. If you listen closely, he seems to mumble the same incoherent lines such as, "When I was only Seven." He enjoys eating Kap'n Krump brand cereal endorsed by his favorite rapper Taqu'il (although he often ends up smashing the bowl on the floor). He is sensitive about his weight. Simon does not seem to be very bright, as Killface scolds him for receiving a 'C-' in Algebra. Although he oftentimes appears to be in rebellion against his father, most famously by pushing his bowl of cereal on the floor, Simon does appear to seek Killface's approval. In the episode 'Kidnapped,' Simon manges to capture Xander and Stan entirely on his own, even though Killface had excluded him from the operation due to Simon's poor grades. Simon also seems to enjoy mocking others, as he picked on Phil in the car ride to Las Vegas after Phil is beaten (off-screen) by Killface for asking too many questions. Simon's misbehavior and general poor attitude maybe due to the fact that he wishes to go back to Arizona, where it is implied he and Killface had previously lived. Killface insists that they can't ever go back there due to Simon's sociopathic tendencies. When Simon steals Xander's "Robot Pants" and takes all the knives in the house, Killface proclaims "It's Arizona all over again!" and tells Sinn to call all the pet stores in town. Simon is also seen purchasing a cage full of rabbits while wearing a bandolier of knives. The store owner remarks upon the fact that Simon is not buying any food for the animals.
[edit] The Xtacles
The Xtacles are Awesome-X's band of mercenary cyborg super soldiers. They see Awesome-X as a cool, friendly boss and are eager to please him. On one occasion this led to them throwing him a surprise birthday party, the surprise of which caused Awesome-X to violently gun several of them down when he mistook it for an ambush (he thought word had gotten out that he was going to fire them). They are unaware of Awesome-X's secret identity, which leads to trouble as it is a major goal of theirs to kill Xander Crews, whom they believe to be responsible for their recent pay cut.
Four Xtacles have been named so far. Steve, who was shot in face by Xanders when they threw him a surprise party, Zoff, who doesn't seem to have played any importance to the story yet, and Kevin, who was involved in a paternity suit at some point prior to the series.
The last one is Ronny, who seems to have an odd homo-erotic attraction towards Xander Crews. A comment from a recent episode being evidence to this when he said
"Heh, I'm going to blow him...up. What?! I just- did *continues stuttering as he walks offscreen* Queers!"
When the other Xtacles are arguing over who has to guard Crews while the rest go to test his hair sample in the DNA Machine, Ronny comes running in, eagerly volunteering to guard him. The other Xtacles go down to the lab to find the DNA Machine destroyed, destroyed by Ronny but they were unaware of it at that moment. Ronny, meanwhile, has locked the door to the bridge so that there wouldn't be any "interuptions." He than tells Xander that he destroyed the machine and that he's going to glue a blonde wig to his head and "make love to his face." The next time Ronny is seen is when the other Xtacles blow down the door to the bridge, only to find Ronny tied up to the chair Crews was, previously, in and with his pants missing.
[edit] Minor characters
[edit] Taqu'il
(voiced by Killer Mike)
Taqu'il is a world-famous rapper whose videos are, apparently, in heavy rotation. He has lent his endorsement to Kap'n Krump brand cereal (whose tagline is "Eat it, Bitch!") and he also stars as Jimmy in the movie "Some Like It Crump."
[edit] Hooker
She's one of the few people to know Awesome X's secret identity, a fact which prompted Xander Crews to pay her five million dollars to keep quiet. She is now living in Xander's mansion, having purchased it from Stan.
[edit] Valerie
(voiced by Mary Kraft)
Commonly referred to as Val, Valerie mostly shrieks and is forced to wear a Geisha outfit. She is beaten by Killface when she suggests postcards as a way of communicating his message, although he eventually chooses this plan. She later manages to get Killface onto a morning talk show.
Val may have made an appearance as the spying eyes behind a family portrait in the episode "Meet Antagone" when Killface ponders about her wherabouts aloud.
Valerie's character design is heavily based on Adult Swim Programming Director Kim Manning.[1]
[edit] Trent and Brent
(voiced by Brendon Small)
Trent and Brent, twins, are USC Film School alumni whose job it was to market the Annihilatrix. Trent and Brent were, for the most part, acquiescent to Killface's orders, out of fear of being killed. However, Killface's attempts to commandeer their creative control and repeated rejections of their ideas led them to occasionally lash out at Killface. They were each ultimately blasted in half by Killface. After killing Trent, Killface thrust his hand inside the upper half of his corpse and played him like a ventriloquist's dummy.
[edit] Mitzi and Verl
Mitzi and Verl are parodies of Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin. They host a talk show called Live With Mitzi and Verl, a spoof of Live With Regis and Kelly. They are mostly concerned with promoting the new Scion tC. Mitzi has an extremely annoying habit of yelling "YEAH!" at almost anything, in a similar tone to Howard Dean's famous "Yeah!!!."
