List of air carriers banned in the EU

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following is a list of air carriers banned in the European Community. The Commission of the European Community (EC) has through Commission Regulation (EC) No 474/2006 of 22 March 2006 established a list of air carriers which are banned in the EC (a so-called blacklist). The list establishes which air carriers are banned within the airspace of the member states and which air carriers have restrictions imposed on them. The list was most recently updated through Commission Regulation (EC) No 474/2006 of 20 June 2006.

[edit] Background

The process through which an air carrier can end up on the list is detailed in Regulation (EC) No 2111/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council, it involves communication between the regulatory agencies of the member states, the institutions of the European Community, the authorities with responsibility for regulatory oversight of the air carrier concerned and the air carrier. Before ending up on the list air carriers have the right of defence, and the list is subject to periodical review and updates.
