The original Pilot for The Simple Life was created to introduce the premise of the show and its stars, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie to Fox Executives to help persuade them to greenlight the series.
The pilot featured Paris and Nicole being driven via limousine from their home in L.A to suburbia, to work at a dog grooming business called Chris' K9 Clippery. Tasks assigned to the girls mainly included washing dogs, something the girls had a lot more trouble with then they thought they would. Customers on the phone got hung up on while making bookings, and dogs nearly escaped, running out the front door! |

Curly, the grandmother in the family, helps Paris and Nicole bake pies from scratch to enter in the pie contest. The next day unfortunately, due to the car not starting, the girls accidentally leave the pies on the porch while trying to organize alternative transport, and the pies are eaten by the family dog. |
||||

The girls secure another job, this time for a cattle auctioneer named Kent. Duties were similar to the Dairy Farm, and included helping heard the cattle, filling up the troughs and introducing the auctions, though Paris and Nicole preferred to flirt with the boys and decorate the cows with glitter. Kent has the girls go to the store to pick up some feed. Nicole, claiming she has "Charging Account Disease", can't help but charge a few extra things to his account including a full-length folding mirror and a $129 birdhouse to give to Janet Leding for Mother's Day. Kent sends them home soon after, and Janet is thrilled the girls were thoughtful enough to buy her something special.
It isn't long before Kent finds out what they did, much to Janet's disappointment. As punishment, he has the girls do a pregnancy test on 100 head of cattle, which literally involved Nicole having to stick her arm inside the cow and feel for a calf, much to their disgust. Of course the girls were not welcomed back to the Live Stock Auction. |
||||
6 | 6 | Boy Crazy | Fill 'Er Up | January 7, 2004 |
