List of Star Wars clone trooper legions

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Clone legions were just basically groups of Clones in the beginning of the war. They had no specific armor, just the standard rank revealing armor. During the final days of the Clone Wars, Clone troopers' armor had markings that dealt with legion rather than rank. Led by a commander and a Jedi, the legions had different skills and specialize in different kinds of combat. These are several of the notable groups.

[edit] 501st Vader's Fist Legion

For information on the fan organisation that inspired the 501st Legion, see 501st Legion.

The 501st Vader's Fist Legion was the personal Legion of Military Executor Darth Vader and was under the command of Commander Appo. They were considered to be the best of all the Clone Trooper Legions, and served throughout the Clone Wars, the establishment of the Galactic Empire, and the early years of the Galactic Civil War. Almost half of the legion was killed during the destruction of the first Death Star. The 501st had their revenge during the battle of Hoth. Later, during the Battle of Endor most of the rest of the 501st were killed. They are also seen in the single-player campaign of the game Star Wars: Battlefront II.

[edit] 182nd Legion

The 182nd Legion was deployed at Felucia around the 3rd year of the Clone Wars, and was wiped out by droid resistance as well as being plagued by attacks from acklays (an acklay was used in Attack of the Clones for the execution of Obi-Wan Kenobi) that are native there. Nothing much is known about them, but members of the 501st Legion were sent to Felucia to investigate the 182nd's disappearance.

[edit] 327th Star Corps

The 327th Star Corps, under the command of Marshal Commander Bly and General Aayla Secura, wore armor almost exactly the same armor as the Phase 2 ARC Troopers. They wore kamas (half coats), shoulder pauldrons, and had yellow markings. Their combat tour across the galaxy took them to New Holstice, Honoghr, Anzat, Saleucami, and Felucia.

During the Battle of Felucia, after Order 66 was activated, Bly and his squad shot and killed Secura without hesitation.

[edit] Galactic Marines (21st Nova Corps)

Under the command of Commander Bacara and General Ki-Adi-Mundi, the Galactic Marines (a.k.a. the 21st Nova Corps) were some of the most feared troopers in the Grand Army of the Republic. They specialize in assulting and protecting spaceships, plus planetery assault. Due to their elite status and famed adapatability, they were always selected to test new equipment, such as the maroon-and-grey armor they were clad in during the assault on the Separatist planet Mygeeto. They were the first to use the prototype Snowtrooper and space trooper armor. They usually were equipped with DC-15 rifles, but some were equipped with a heavy repeating blasters and a DC-17 pistol.

Towards the end of the Clone Wars, Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi and Clone Commander Bacara led the Marines into combat on the planet Mygeeto. When Chancellor Palpatine enacted Order 66, Bacara and the Marines riddled Mundi with blaster fire.

The Galactic Marines also appear in Star Wars Battlefront 2 as the default costume of the Clone Commander unit.

[edit] 212th Attack Battalion

Under the command of Commander Cody and General Obi-Wan Kenobi, the 212th Attack Battalion wore orange triangles and markings on their armor. Their two most important battles were the 1st Battle of Cato Neimoidia and the Battle of Utapau. During the Battle of Utapau, Commander Cody reluctantly ordered an AT-TE walker to blast Kenobi, his former friend, who managed to survive after Emperor Palpatine enacted Order 66.

[edit] 41st Elite Corps

The 41st Elite Corps were an elite corp of clone troopers trained for operating in harsh conditions such as jungles and marshes. They were basic white Clones with gray/green shoulder pads and belts, wearing jungle camouflage armor when the warzone demanded. Under the command of Commander Gree and General Luminara Unduli, they boast squads of BARCs and utilize AT-RTs often. Turbo Tanks and AT-APs were also used on the battles of Kashyyyk and Wytan. After the first year of the war several battalions of the 41st engaged a droid army in the planet of Dinlo. During the Battle of Kashyyyk, Commander Gree and his officer attempted to blast Yoda after Order 66 was activated, but were both beheaded by one single swipe from Yoda.

[edit] 65th Homeworld Security Shock Trooper Legion

Led by Commander Thire, they are the elite and Palpatine's favorite. Wearing very complex red patterns on their armor, the Shock Troopers protected Coruscant by patrolling the streets and having citizens show their identity cards on demand. They played a prominent role in the ground battle in the Battle of Coruscant by leading legions into battle. They also helped Palpatine search for the body of the presumed dead Yoda in the Senate chambers and picking up the remains of Anakin Skywalker after the Mission to Mustafar. They were later called in to assassinate suspected rebel Senators.

The Shocktroops evolved into the Coruscant Guard of the Empire Age.

[edit] Clone Commando Regiment

This regiment was made up of clone commandos who worked in groups of four, which were selcted from birth and trained and lived together from birth. These clones were given specialized training, that made them the best commandos the galaxy had ever seen.

They were trained by ex-Mandalorians and mercenaries. The training protocol has the clone receive basic training and then specialized training, while they lived, trained and fought together as a squad, fostering intense brotherly relationships, which allowed each member of a squad to specialize in a skill that would complement the other three members of a squad, creating an elite and lethal unit.

There are no official numbers concerning the number of squads in the regiment, although it is estimated that there were 69 squads, with each squad having four clone commandos.

The history of this squad is shrouded in mystery, although there are the prominent successes of Delta, Omega and Ion Squad. There were rumours that the confederacy developed the B-2A droid to counter the commandos, however this was ineffective. Clone Commandos started painting and customising their armor following the huge success the Kaminoans noted when Delta Squad started doing so.

[edit] Hawkbat Battalion

The Hawkbat Battalion, led by Captain Deviss, fought during the Battle of Geonosis. Their mission was to destroy the Separatist Spider Droids. Due to foolish commanding, the battalion was almost completely wiped out. Deviss later was assigned to the 327th Star Corps under Marshal Commander Bly. During the Battle of Altyr V, Bly promoted Deviss to the rank of commander.

  • Note of interest:Commander Deviss does not have the traditional gold markings of the Star Corps. Instead, he has red markings, perhaps in homage to when he was a captain (clone captains had red markings.) The red design was originally Bly's scheme, until they moved it to gold to match Felucia.

[edit] ARC-170 Squad Seven

Red Squadron, under the command of General Obi-wan Kenobi and Commander Odd Ball, flew against the Separatists during the Battle of Coruscant. Flying ARC-170s, Odd Ball and his men distracted the enemy forces so General Kenobi and General Anakin Skywalker could infiltrate the Separatist flagship, the Invisible Hand, taking several casualties in the process. It is unknown whether Odd Ball was killed in the onslaught, but several reports indicate that Oddball was able to pilot his severely damaged ARC-170 to dock with a nearby cruiser. Although his co-pilot and rear gunner were killed during the fight, Oddball commandeered a fresh ARC-170, and a new crew, and continued the fight. Many speculate that Oddball's ARC-170 simply fell to Coruscant and burned up in the atmosphere but many more argue that Oddball's superior piloting skills probably warrant him a much more heroic death. In the book adaptation of the Revenge of the Sith, by Matthew Stover, the original screenplay suggests that Commander Oddball died from being overwhelmed by tri-fighter droids. However, the script shown at the back of the Star Wars Revenge of the Sith art book suggests that it was not Odd Ball who got attacked by the tri-fighters but just another clone pilot.

[edit] 91st Reconnaissance Corps

Under the command of Commander Neyo and General Stass Allie, the 91st Reconnaissance Corps specialized in BARC Speeder piloting. They had armor almost exactly the same as the Clone Assassins, but with shoulder pauldrons.

During the end of the Battle of Saleucami, the squadron suffered heavy losses, with an almost 50% ratio loss. However, the tide turned when Stass Allie and an armament of heavy BARC troopers flanked the heavy battle droids and crippled their reinforcements. After defeating the major droid forces Allie was on a surveying mission, with Commander Neyo. When he received the orders to execute order sixty-six, Neyo ordered a squad member to slow and flank Allie from behind. Her speeder exploded under her, killing her instantly, flinging her body among the destroyed battle droids and fallen troopers.

[edit] Squad Seven

Squad Seven was a small group of specialists created by ARC trooper Alpha-17, and led by Clone Commander Odd Ball, although the squad was managed by Major Jorir. The squad contained the best cross-trained clone commanders, pilots, marines, sea troopers, demolition specialists, and snipers. The squad accompanied Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on several occasions.

During the 1st Battle of Cato Neimoidia, the commandos of Squad Seven assisted Kenobi in his assault on Nute Gunray's redoubt. With their help, Kenobi was able to procure Gunray's valuable mechno-chair (it's the holographic, portable stand from The Phantom Menace), which contained a holographic message from Darth Sidious to the viceroy.

[edit] Sky Corps

The Sky Corps was an elite group of jet troopers activated during the Clone Wars to serve in the Grand Army of the Republic. These specially-trained troopers wore jet-packs for aerial operations and combat. The troops of the Sky Corps carried DC-15 blasters and a specialized DC-18 rifle.

[edit] Lancer Battalion

The Lancer Battalion was a division of the Grand Army of the Republic made of Lancer Troopers. The Lancer Battalion was used occasionally against the Separatist's IG Lancer droids. They were particularly remembered for their part in the Battle of Muunilinst in the early months of the Clone Wars, in which they were almost completely destroyed by Durge and his army of IG Lancer droids.

Using Aratech 105-K Lancer Bikes, the Lancer Battalions engaged with their enemy's in physical combat, ramming the Lancer Droids with Verpine power-lances.

The Lancer Battalions were usually deployed to distract the enemy from advancing turbolaser batteries, used to take out fortified targets.
