List of Royal Canadian Air Force squadrons

The Royal Canadian Air Force existed from 1924 to 1968. These are the squadrons that served during that period.

These early Squadron numbers have a history going back to the Post-World War I Canadian Air Force which disbanded in 1920. These units were formed with after the creation of the RCAF in 1924.

[edit] The Overseas Squadrons

During the Second World War, various Commonwealth Air Forces served together. To avoid confusion with Squadron numbers, the Royal Canadian Air Force was assigned the 400-444 block of squadron numbers. The majority of current Canadian Armed Forces operational Squadrons are numbered in the 400s due to their legacy as WWII units.

Subsequent to WWII the RCAF expanded their squadron numbers to include 445-450 which were originally allocated to the Royal Australian Air Force
