Tommy Gavin struggles to live in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks and is confronted with the ghost of his cousin and best friend, Jimmy Keefe. The episode is notable for having the first re-creation of the aftermath World Trade Center collapse on film or television.
Also in the episode: The crew deals with a man who dumped piss down a stairwell. Tommy and Franco find out Lou is writing poetry. Tommy is spying on his ex-wife's new boyfriend Roger. A shrink visits the fire house and Tommy reminisces about people who died in fires long ago. |

Tommy has a dream where he sets fire to his ex-wife's house and kills her and all of his kids. A newspaper article, in which a retired firefighter claims that several of the 9/11 firefighting dead were gay, angers Chief Reilly. Tommy's brother, Johnny, and nephew, Damian, get dirt on Janet's boyfriend and send him a virus. Tommy, at the suggestion by his dead cousin Jimmy Keefe, visits Jimmy's widow, Sheila. Sean gets his balls waxed, thinking chicks will dig it. Chief Reilly gets in a fight with the gay fireman who outed his dead comrades, and ends up putting the man in a coma. | |||||

Tommy makes life difficult for his separated wife's new boyfriend, while Chief Reilly may face expulsion for his altercation with a gay firefighter. Lou shares his sentimental poetry with a post-traumatic stress disorder group. Probe makes the department hockey team. Tommy has to pay Damian $500 so he won't tell Sheila and everyone else about the virus he sent Janet's boyfriend. Sean comes to a realization of what happened to the Hindenburg. Tommy can't remember the name of the girl he is banging. Franco is surprised to hear he's the father of a 5-year old girl, according to his ex-girlfriend, Nez. Meanwhile Nez has rancid sex with Sean. Probe Mike is getting forced into a "relationship" with Andrew, the guy he saved in a fire. It turns out that Andrew wants to have a 3-way with his fiance and Mike. Sheila, the widow of Jimmy, makes an unexpected move on Tommy after she gets drunk on a date with Tommy after getting drunk at dinner. Tommy's daughter Colleen gets in a car accident with her boyfriend. Chief Reilly gets suspended after sending a fax to the commissioner's office. Tommy visits his cousin at the church and remembers all of the people who he wasn't able to save. | |||||

Tommy and Franco finally read Lou's poetry. Franco's ex-girlfriend Nez dies while out with Sean, leaving Franco with a daughter who has been left in the care of a drug-addicted friend. Franco rescues the child, but soon turns her over to family services. Tommy almost burns Roger's face on his stove.
Tommy talks to a dead girl (he thinks she is alive) under a fallen couch and the entire house thinks he is going nuts. Franco "throws away" his daughter's stuffed doll. Tommy visits his father and uncle Teddy at Teddy's house and finds out both of them are spending the rest of their lives banging hookers and doing blow. Chief Reilly exposes his gay son, Peter, to his team of firefighters in order to save his job. Tommy gets beat up by three of Roger's friends. |

Tommy convinces Janet to leave her new boyfriend, but Janet discovers Tommy's fling with Karen.
Sean unknowingly dates a man. Franco realizes he has made a mistake and tries to find his daughter. Tommy uses his brother Johnny to arrest Roger, Janet's boyfriend. Tommy continues to have sex with the girl who he dosen't really even know... Lou shares his poems with a support group and realizes they weren't even there on 9/11... only to realize none of them had nothing to do with 9/11 in lower manhattan and leave them in the middle of their "sobbing". Janet tries to reconcile with Tommy only to realize he has a girl upstairs in his bed (Karen) who he barely knows. Franco "kidnaps" his daughter and takes her back to a reasonable home. A fire starts in Tommy's house (due to his recent fling). Franco leaves his daughter with his parents. |

Sean and Franco pose for a firefighter calendar.
Tommy and the crew build a deck for his neighbor and then Tommy gets angry and destroys it. Probe Mike explains the venus butterfly to the crew and they all decide to try it. Tommy discovers he can get rid of his ghosts by lighting candles at the church for them. Tommy asks for vacation time and tries to reconcile with Janet. They have sex when she is drunk and Tommy thinks they are getting back together but later discovers they aren't. Probe Mike gets forced into a threesome against his will. |

Tommy tries to build a relationship with his daughter, Colleen, after she gets a dog (which is left at Tommy's house) and decides to be a lesbian.
A conversation between Mike and Sean prompts the Chief to announce the "Biggest D*ck in the House" contest. Billy is killed in a fire and posthumously wins the contest when his ex-wife reveals his vital statistics to Lou. Uncle Teddy has monkey troubles. Tommy's priest brother confronts him about coming to church so often and lighting candles. Tommy finally has sex with Sheela. |

Janet tries to cheat Tommy out of more money.
At the firehouse, Chief Reilly tells the group of their new female replacement. Probe Mike gets caught between his girlfriend and her hot daughter, and then he gets kicked out of her apartment. Tommy discovers Janet is pregnant. Tommy, Sean, and Franco go beat up the guy who started the fire in which Billy died. Lou betrays his wife with Sondra, deceased Billy's ex-wife. |
