The list is not comprehensive but is continuously being expanded and includes writers and poets from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and India. This list is alphabetized by chronological order. Some names that lived during the turn of a century appear twice.

Most of the ancient Persian literature was lost during the Islamic conquest of Persia.
