The Milwaukee was one of the most electrified railroads in the United States. The system used was 3,000 volt DC overhead line.

- Milwaukee Road class EP-1 Boxcab multiple-unit electrics from ALCO/GE, all converted to class EF-1 in 1920. Twelve double units built (24 single units).
- Milwaukee Road class EP-2 The "Bi-Polars". Five built.
- Milwaukee Road class EP-3 Baldwin/Westinghouse "Quills" (quill drive). 10 built.
- Milwaukee Road class EP-4 "Little Joes". Two built, converted to freight (EF-4) in 1956.

- Milwaukee Road class EF-1 Boxcab multiple-unit electrics from ALCO/GE, identical to EP-1 but for gearing and paint. 30 double-unit sets built (60 single units). EP-1 units converted to EF-1 specification in 1920.
- Milwaukee Road class EF-2 Three boxcab units assembled as one locomotive.
- Milwaukee Road class EF-3 Three-unit boxcab set with the middle unit shortened by removing the cab and leading truck; these B+B B units were called "bobtails".
- Milwaukee Road class EF-4 "Little Joes". Ten built, plus two former passenger (EP-4) units converted to freight in 1956.
- Milwaukee Road class EF-5 Four-unit boxcabs with any combination of regular or bobtail units in the middle.
