  • Dennis Farina joins the cast as Det. Joe Fontana this season.
  • Elisabeth Röhm as Serena Southerlyn leaves the cast midway through the season; she is replaced by Annie Parisse as Alexandra Borgia.
  • The spinoff Law & Order: Trial by Jury premiered this season; it featured Jerry Orbach reprising his role as Lennie Briscoe, before his death in 2004.
  • Michael Imperioli temporarily replaces Jesse L. Martin in the last four episodes as Det. Nick Falco (see also: Rent (film)).
