List of Kollywood film clans

People who have succeeded in India's Kollywood film industry have the connections, and the will, to give their children and siblings a boost in the ferociously competitive film world. This has led to the emergence of "film clans" -- families, even entire dynasties, of stars, producers, directors, and other film industry crew. Most film families marry into other families, therefore many of the families are inter-related. Notable film clans include:

[edit] The Rajinikanth - Raja Family

Probably one of the grandest families in the industry, the Rajinikanth family have been in the industry for years since the 1980's. It is mainly Rajinikanth's descendants that have carried on with the family tradition of acting. His daughter married Dhanush which united the Raja family also including Sonia Agarwal and Selvarghavan.

The Ganesan family starts with Sivaji Ganesan. It also includes his children and grandchildren.

Sivakumar played roles in films from 1965 to 1998 . Sivakumar introduced his son Surya in 1997 in the film Nerruku Ner which made Surya a star overnight. He recently married Jyothika.

Ajith Kumar started off as a mechanic and with his own struggle developed into an outstanding actor. He married fellow actress, Shalini in 1999. Shalini has a brother actor and a National Award winning actress sister, Shamili.

The Chandrasekhars start with S. A. Chandrasekhar. His son Vijay went on to pursue a successful film career. Chandrasekhar's wife, Shobha, is a singer. Recently Vijay's cousin, Vikranth, has joined the film industry.

R B Choudary is a noted film producer. His sons Jeeva and Ramesh both pursued acting careers. His oldest son B. Suresh Choudary is his co-producer at his Super Good Films film banner.

G.K Reddy is the owner of G.K films banner. He has retired from producing films and has handed his company over to his oldest son, Vikram Krishna Reddy, formerly known as actor Ajay of Poo Parikka Varugirom fame. His younger son, Vishal Reddy, is Kollywood's young action hero who scored a hat-trick with his first 3 films.

Mohan was a popular successful editor in the industry in the 1970s and 80s. His sons Jayam Raja and Jayam Ravi both pursued a film career. Their careers were boosted from the film, Jayam in 2003.
