List of Hatha yoga postures

This is a list of common postures (also called asanas) used in Hatha Yoga. Depending on the style other names may also be used.

Some terms in Sanskrit are repeatedly used in the names of asanas. Generally these are prefixes and can be used on any pose to explain a variation.

  • Adho means "downward"
  • Ardha means "half"
  • Eka means "one" or "single"
  • Parivrtta means "revolved" or "twisted"
  • Supta means "reclining"
  • Urdhva means "upward"
  • Upavistha means "seated"
  • Utthita means "extended"
