[edit] Freeza character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT seriescharacter appears in Dragon Ball Movie(s) almost exclusively

Main article: Freeza

A planetary slumlord, Freeza is a powerful alien who masks his sadism with mock cordiality. He possesses four forms that mask and contain his power, increasing vastly in speed and strength with each physical transformation. Freeza descends on Planet Namek for the purposes of wishing for immortality from the Dragon Balls, accompanied by a small army of henchmen. Defeated by the Super Saiyan Son Goku and caught in the planet's explosion, he is later rebuilt as a cyborg. After being rejuvenated with mecha enhancements, Freeza invades Goku's home world of Earth alongside his father, only to be confronted and readily killed by Future Trunks. He cut Freeza in half with his sword.

[edit] King Cold character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Main article: King Cold

He is the father of Freeza and Coola. He appears briefly at the start of the Trunks arc along with his now cyber-organic son to destroy Earth as revenge for Freeza's near death by Son Goku's hands. After Trunks shows up and easily dispatches Freeza, Cold offers Trunks the opportunity take his son's place. His attempt at trickery against the mysterious youth fails, as once in possession of Trunks' sword Cold finds the Saiyan draws his power from elsewhere. Cold's pleas for mercy fall on deaf ears as Trunks quickly finishes him off.

[edit] Coola character appears in Dragon Ball Movie(s) almost exclusivelycharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Main article: Coola

Freeza presumably more powerful brother and featured villain of Dragon Ball Z movies 5 & 6. When Coola heard of his sibling's death, he made arrangements to attack Son Goku on Earth to assuage his family's wounded pride. When he first came to the planet he was mistaken for Freeza himself. Unlike his brother, Coola was able to change into an additional fifth form for an added boost in size, quickness, and strength. After losing to Goku in battle after being blasted into the sun, Coola is integrated into the massive Big Gete Star, taking it over and making many Metal Coola copies of himself. He encounters Goku and his friends again on New Namek, and is defeated conclusively by the combined strength of Goku and Vegeta.

[edit] Kūriza

Main article: Kuriza

Kūriza is the son of Freeza from Neko Majin Z. He never appears in any DBZ manga or anime, and is exclusive to the Neko Majin Z story and therefore, he is non-canonical to the DBZ manga. Unlike his father he isn't especially evil, and has a fit when the manga runs out of pages before he has a chance to show off.

Like Kuririn, the pun on his name is derived from kuri, or chestnut. This breaks the tradition of Freeza's family members' names being taken from terms for "cold".

[edit] Top henchmen

[edit] Zarbon character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Main article: Zarbon

His master's right-hand man and most powerful henchman, Zarbon is considered to be quite attractive and is a lover of beauty. He travels alongside Dodoria and Freeza to Planet Namek in search of the Dragon Balls. Zarbon has the ability to undergo a transformation which makes him considerably stronger, but loathes to do so as its repulsive nature mars his appearance, only doing so when absolutely necessary. In the FUNimation English dub, Zarbon speaks with a British accent. In the show's prior dub from Ocean, he spoke with an Australian accent.

While Zarbon is able to thrash Vegeta once transformed, in their second fight he is pummeled and killed by the Saiyan, as their race grows stronger after recovering from near-death injuries. He later appeared in Dragon Ball GT when he escaped from Hell along with all the other villains.

Zarbon's name comes from the Japanese word for the pomelo fruit, zabon.

[edit] Dodoria character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Main article: Dodoria

One of Freeza's top two henchmen, Dodoria is a large, pink alien with short spikes on his head and forearms. In the first DBZ TV special, it was Dodoria who killed Bardock's crew and easily defeated Bardock. He fails to confirm the dead body, however, and must apologize to his master for his negligence. He then traveled to Namek with Freeza and Zarbon in search of the Dragon Balls. Once on the planet, Kuririn and Gohan interfered to save Dende from Dodoria, as he had already killed a number of Nameks. He begins to pursue all three, only to encounter Vegeta. Outmatched, Dodoria pleads for mercy, telling Vegeta the truth about the destruction of Planet Vegeta hoping it would aid in sparing his life. It fails miserably, as Vegeta slaughters him regardless.

Dodoria's name and spiky appearance are derived from dorian, also known as the durian fruit.

[edit] Kiwi character appears in the Dragon Ball Z seriescharacter appears in the Dragon Ball GT series

Main article: Kiwi

Kiwi is a high-ranking henchman of Freeza who used his superior rank and high power level to instill fear in those he felt were beneath him. He had been Vegeta's rival for an extended period of time and waited for an opportunity to kill him. Receiving an execution order, Kiwi confronts Vegeta on Namek, only to find what had once been a weaker warrior to now outclass him with an even higher power level. He flees in terror after realizing his error, only to be promptly killed by an unsympathetic Vegeta. In the anime, it is revealed that his race was destroyed by Freeza.

Kiwi gets his name off a pun of the kiwifruit.

[edit] Soldiers

[edit] Appule character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Appule

Appule

One of Freeza's henchmen on Namek. He often takes orders from higher ranking officials such as Dodoria and Zarbon. His main mission was to help collect the Dragon Balls and report any sighting of Namekian villages. He is later assigned to overseeing a healing Vegeta so he could be queried later, but things go wrong as Vegeta kills him when he escapes from the healing tank rejuvenation chamber. His head was unceremoniously stepped on after death.

Following the tradition of Freeza's non-Saiyan subordinates being named for fruit, his name a slight pun off of apple.

[edit] Blueberry and Raspberry character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Blueberry (right) and Raspberry kidnap Bulma.

An alligator/dog-like henchman and his humanoid partner, Blueberry and Raspberry are standard-issue cronies in Freeza's military sent to find the Namekian Dragon Balls. Freeza felt no need to enlighten his lower-level soldiers of the Dragon Balls' powers, only demanding that they be found. During their search they come across Bulma, who had one in her possession. Convinced she knew the location of the others, the pair intimidates the girl and threatens to take her to Freeza for questioning.

Somehow Bulma is able to talk her way out of the predicament by telling them that the Dragon Balls would grant them anything they wanted once all seven were brought together. Raspberry thought it was preposterous, but the idea intrigued Blueberry. The two then kidnap Bulma and demand she lead them to the rest, still thinking she had them stashed away elsewhere on the planet. Bulma at last comes up with an idea, "confessing" that the Dragon Balls were hidden deep beneath the sea. In actuality, she tricks the two into believing that hundreds of giant crab eggs are the Dragon Balls, and as her captors think of all they could ever wish for Bulma leaves them to deal with the angry mother. Thinking she was safe at last Bulma resurfaces, but startlingly Blueberry and Raspberry arrive immediately thereafter. Before they can deal with her treachery the giant crab breaks free of the water and snatches them into its claws, rending them to shreds as it drags them down below.

Neither Blueberry or Raspberry appeared in the original manga, being anime-only filler characters for the Freeza Saga.

[edit] Dodoria's Elite character appears in Dragon Ball Movie(s) almost exclusively

Dodoria's Elite

Dodoria's Elite

Four of Freeza's lower-level warriors, considered elite amongst the rank and file, who accompany Dodoria to Planet Meat, to assist him in killing Burdock's crew. All four thought that because they had easily beaten Burdock's friends with Dodoria's help they could easily take on Burdock himself without much difficulty. They were sadly mistaken, and after a lengthy struggle, Burdock managed to kill all of them.

[edit] Orin character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Orin
Orin

(FUNimation's dub: Orlen)

Another one of Freeza's henchmen on Namek, Orin is from the same species as Appule except he is orange with large fangs and red eyes. Orin is the one who finds the Namekian village that Vegeta had attacked for its Dragon Ball. He interrogates the sole survivor, and once he learns it was Vegeta’s doing Orin kills the dying Namekian and returns to Freeza’s ship to report. He lets it slip he killed the survivor without first asking where Vegeta may have hidden the Dragon Ball, which angers Freeza. He then kills Orin without a second thought, zapping him with ki beams from his eyes. His name is a pun on orange.

Note that Orin only appears in the anime. In the manga, it is Appule who discovers the village Vegeta destroyed, and upon returning to report Freeza does not kill him but orders him to summon the Gi'nyu Special Corps., with the rest of the story proceeds the same.

[edit] Saiyan race

Freeza controlled Planet Vegeta and the entire Saiyan race. He used them as soldiers to take over planets because of their strength and ability to change into Oozaru. He eventually killed most by blowing up the planet after hearing of the Super Saiyan, and seeing the power of Burdock increasing greatly over a short period of time. Only Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz lived to serve him. Raditz and Nappa were killed off, and Vegeta betrayed him.

[edit] The Ginyu Force

Main articles: The Ginyu Force and Captain Ginyu

A team of super-elite and powerful mutant mercenaries, they are called upon by Freeza to assist in the defeat of Vegeta and obtainment of the Dragon Balls on Planet Namek. Though physically some of the very strongest in the universe, the Gi'nyu delight in coming up with strange poses, betting candy on fights, and playing roshambo to decide the order they should fight. The names of the Gi'nyu Special Corps. are puns of products made of milk.

[edit] Non-combatants

[edit] Malaka character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Malaka
Malaka

Malaka is the brown-skinned, dinosaur-faced creature with a red mohawk who is a doctor working under Freeza, operating the healing tanks on Planet Vegeta alongside Planthorr. Though not of their race, both he and his partner are killed when Freeza acts on his plan to exterminate the Saiyans and causes the planet to explode. "Malaka" is a name given to him by FUNimation, neither he nor his partner are named in the original special.

Other members of his species also show some doctoral skill and handle treatment in the medical facilities in Freeza's empire. One is one of the very few characters Vegeta shows kindness to before moving to Earth; after saving his life in the healing center of Planet Freeza #79, Vegeta thanks him by giving him his expensive scouter (Vegeta no longer needed it, since he could sense power levels on his own by that time). However, when Kiwi intervenes and tells Vegeta that Freeza, Zarbon, and Dodoria have already landed on Namek and have begun their search for the Dragon Balls, Vegeta dashes into his pod after reclaiming it for himself, just in case he may need it on the planet (only in the anime; in the manga, Vegeta does not bother and simply heads to Namek, and uses a spare scouter in his pod).

[edit] Planthorr character appears in the Dragon Ball Z series

Planthorr

Planthorr

Planthorr is the humanoid doctor who has elf-like ears and a beard and is seen wearing a cape. He is often seen working alongside Malaka in the rejuvenation chamber sectors. He also took care of Bardock when he was damaged in battle. Planthorr recognizes something peculiar about Son Goku before he is sent out to his assigned planet. Planthorr and Malaka are rather calm and reserved and they aren't violent by nature regardless of the fact that they work under Freeza.

"Planthorr" is a name given to him by FUNimation, neither he nor his partner are named in the original special.

[edit] Coola's Armored Squadron

[edit] Dore character appears in Dragon Ball Movie(s) almost exclusively

Dore
Dore

(FUNimation's dub: Doore)

Long-haired, always seen with a helmet and vaguely Hulk-like in appearance, Dore accompanies Coola along with the rest of his team to Earth. He and the others are assigned to finding Son Goku so his master can redeem his family's hurt pride. Finding Son Gohan instead, Dore torments him by squeezing his head in his bare hand like a vice. Piccolo catches him off guard and soon thereafter finishes him off with a homing ki blast as Dore flies after a fleeing Gohan, who was trying to escape to heal his father with senzu beans.

Akin to all Dragon Ball characters, Dore and his fellow henchmen's names are derived from puns - in this case, condiments and salad dressings. His own name was lifted from saradore, or salad dressing.

[edit] Neizu character appears in Dragon Ball Movie(s) almost exclusively

Neizu
Neizu

(FUNimation's dub: Naise)

Brown and reptilian, Neizu can hide his head in his shoulders in order to dodge blasts. He fights alongside Sauzer and Dore, pulling off poses similar to the Gi'nyu Special Corps. He battles against Son Goku at first, but eventually fights Piccolo with the others. After Dore's death, Neizu attempts to neutralize Piccolo using one of his special techniques, only to have the Namek smirk as he grabs Neizu when he comes in to gloat, reflecting the attack back at him and killing his opponent instantly.

Neizu takes his name from the common condiment mayonnaise.

[edit] Sauza character appears in Dragon Ball Movie(s) almost exclusively

Sauza
Sauza

(FUNimation's dub: Salza)

A blue-skinned "pretty boy" alien with blonde hair who serves as Coola's right hand man and leader of his special fighting team. He is able to slice through objects using a blade of ki formed in his right hand. Sauzer is the only member to survive Piccolo's initial attack, as he's able to be a match just long enough for his master to take matters into his own hands. Sauzer then takes Son Gohan and Kuririn by surprise, burning their bag of senzu before kicking both around. He then confronts an angered Son Goku only to have his punch have no effect, and is driven into a cliffside just by Goku channeling his power. Sauzer survives, and in the end tries a sneak attack to kill Goku and his friends when they have almost no energy left after Coola's apparent death. Piccolo saves them all after killing Sauzer with his Makankōsappō (Special Beam Cannon).

Sauza's name comes from a pun on Thousand Island salad dressing, "Sauzando Airando". Coincedentally, his name change in the dub keeps with the condiment pun, as salsa is Spanish for sauce.

His first video game appearance is in Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2.
