These are special abilities used by the characters in the Dragon Ball manga and anime. A "*" after the character indicates that they did not use this move in the original manga.

The user manipulates their ki to disrupt the planet's geomagnetic field. With a swift upwards motion of the hand, this technique's user can create a massive atomic explosion that has the potential to cause an almost endless crater in a desired area nearby. Bakuhatsuha was the attack used by Nappa when he and Vegeta first arrived on Earth, destroying East City completely. Later on, Nappa attempted to use the move against Goku, but it was less effective as Goku was able to dodge it.

A very similar technique is used by Freeza when he first enters his second form.

Non-manga usage
The technique makes one more appearance in Dragon Ball GT, during the Super 17 Saga. After Nappa briefly returns from Hell, he uses it to obliterate an entire city once more.

The Bakurikimaha is a very powerful blast shot from one hand, with the other arm supporting the one that is firing the attack.

It was Piccolo Daimaō's most potent attack and he used it against Goku twice. The first time Tenshinhan intervened and carried Goku out of the blasts way, but the second time he hit the young warrior dead on, heavily injuring him.

Later in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai we see Piccolo Junior has the ability to use this attack as well. Piccolo Junior first uses this technique as a final attack against Goku in the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budôkai in an attempt to blow him to bits. Piccolo later uses it, without effect, against Raditz when they meet, and twice during his battle with Android 17.

Similar--but unnamed--techniques have been used by other characters over the course of the series; notably Goku, Freeza, and Zarbon.

Piccolo has a variation of this attack, called Tsuihidan, which is fired the same way and tracks its target. It does not have the same power though.

Vegeta's signature attack. Vegeta extends his arm, opens his palm, and turns his hand up at a 90 degree angle (as if to signal "Stop") and starts to charge up. He then fires a sphere of Ki, a large energy ball or comet-like energy projectile. This attack is either yellow, light blue, or white in color and creates an enormous explosion upon contact. This move is reminiscent of the supposed Japanese obsession with nuclear explosions as Big Bang Attack leaves a mushroom cloud like an atomic bomb in its wake. He first used it against Android #19 during the same battle that he first fought as a Super Saiyan.

This is the technique that allows the user to fly, float or walk in the air while controlling his/her ki. This is first seen in Dragon Ball during the first appearance of Pu'ar, and first named during the 22nd Tenka-ichi Budōkai, when Tenshinhan and Chaozu are seen floating. Tien referred to this technique as "Sky Dancing". Soon, all the other Z Warriors use the move.

Gohan is able to teach Videl, his future wife, to fly in the Buu saga. This may imply that anyone with sufficient power and the proper training can learn the ability.

With this ability, the user is able to divide themselves into multiple, independent bodies. It is first thought to be used by Ninja Murasaki in his battle against Son Gokū in Muscle Tower.

In the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budōkai, Tenshinhan used a very similar technique to divide himself into four separate beings, each with 1/4 of his power. Once again, it was used on Goku who, after a bit of initial trouble, knocked out the Tenshinhan's with a single hit each. Tenshinhan's ability is known as 四身の拳 (technique of four bodies) and is usually called 12 Eyes in the anime.

Non-manga usage
In the anime, each of Murasaki's clones is an identical sibling.

In the anime, Cell used it abruptly in his battle against Son Gokū during the Cell Games Tournament. Also, both Piccolo and Kuririn are shown to using a similar move during the battle with Nappa to create 2 copies each, and later on in the anime Piccolo uses it again during his fight with Gohan in the Garlic Junior Saga. In the anime, Piccolo is often shown creating 1-3 copies with which to spar. None of these events happened in the manga.

Trunks' signature move. Trunks performs a series of rapid arm movements before placing his palms forward, with the thumbs and index fingers touching each other to form a small diamond shape. He then fires a blast of energy from his palms towards the opponent.

This is Mirai Trunks' ultimate move in the Dragon Ball Z: Budōkai series.

Piccolo's trump card in his fight against Son Gokū near the end of the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budōkai, he creates a massive explosion with himself as the nexus. While having a very large radius, the attack did little damage to Gokū and left Piccolo almost completely drained.

Vegeta also uses an extremely similar attack in the late stages of his first battle with Gokū and Majin-Buu uses it during his battle with Majin-Vegeta.

This attack is often mislabled as Shogekiha.

Non-manga usage
In the Dragon Ball movie "Return of Cooler", Piccolo also uses this attack to destroy a large number of Cooler's robot soldiers.

With this attack, a spark of ki lights on the index finger, and once enough energy is gathered this spark may grow to the size of a small moon. When ready, this "Death Ball" is thrown towards the target. Typically this attack is used to destroy planets or as a last-ditch effort to kill an opponent.

Freeza is shown to use this technique to destroy Planet Vegeta and planned to detonate Planet Namek the same way, only to be caught in Goku's Genki Dama. He uses it again when he arrives on Earth as a a means to eradicate Future Trunks, but the attack is repelled.

Freeza also used a similar attack to destroy Planet Namek; it was different in size, shape, and color though, likely making it not a "true" Death Ball.

Non-manga usage
This was to be Coola's trump card versus Goku in Movie #5, but his attack is pushed back at him and he is subsequently pushed by the force of it and Goku's Kamehameha into the Sun. In Movie #6, Metal Coola uses a lesser version of the Death Ball while fighting Goku on New Namek; this was dodged via Instantaneous Movement.

The name of this attack is actually not given anywhere in the anime nor manga but instead originates from the series' videogames.

A narrow ki wave shot from the index finger. It is essentially the Crane school version of the Kamehameha.

It is first used by Tao Pai Pai in an attempt to kill Son Gokū, but the Dragon Ball in his shirt blocked the attack from being fatal. This attack is later used in the 22nd Tenka-ichi Budōkai by both Chaozu and Tenshinhan.

It is never made clear who invented the move, but if it is truly the Crane equivalent of the Kamehameha, it is likely to have been invented by Tsuru-Sen'nin, though he has only used the move in the third Dragon Ball movie, Mystical Adventure. Tao Pai Pai, as a cyborg, develops the upgraded Super Dodonpa. It's essentially the same move, although more powerful.

Character meaning
The dodonpa doesn't really have a character meaning. ど is the sound "do" and ん is the sound "n"; only 波 (Ha / Pa) has a meaning, "wave". Thus, directly translated, the attack is still "dodon wave".

Instead, "dodon" is often used as an onomatopoeia for an explosion in Japanese, additionally "dodon" is also used as an adjective to denote power; thus a loose translation could be *boom* wave or powerful wave.

Similar to how the kamehameha has a dual meaning, one of which is said to be named after Kamehameha I, it is possible that the dodonpa is also named after something else as well.

Two possible explanations are that dodompa ドドンパ (dodonpa in Hepburn system roman letters) is one of the categories of Japanese popular music; the other is of the fictional King Dodon from The Golden Cockerel, a Russian play influenced by the Russo-Japanese War.

Mr. Satan's signature move, this is a charging kick that Satan aims at his opponent before hitting him/her with pinpoint accuracy. It is a useless move, and doesn't do any damage against powerful opponents. The first (and most famous) use of the move is when Satan uses it to start off his barrage of attacks (which is ultimately stopped by Cell as he sends Satan flying headfirst into a cliff). Gotenks later uses his own variation of the move against Buu without much greater success.

This is Satan's main move in the Dragon Ball Z: Budōkai series, and instead of being a single charging kick, it is a kick that turns into two more kicks as the first connects, and, true to its name, it leaves mini-explosions with each hit.

Another one of Vegeta's signature moves (and supposedly the most powerful), he draws his hands back, gathering all of his ki, and thrusts his palms forward, discharging a massive beam of energy towards his opponent.

Vegeta uses this move against Perfect Cell during their battle. Though Cell was significantly more powerful, the sheer amount of energy that Vegeta put into the attack nearly obliterated the overconfident Cell, as well as the entire Earth. Sensing the danger only at the last second, Cell attempted to dodge the beam as the destructive energy disintegrated the ground on which he stood and continued off into deep space. When the dust cleared, Cell had lost his entire upper torso. Despite this, he was able to regenerate himself and continue the fight.

Non-manga usage
In the anime, Vegeta uses this move against the Cell Jr. he is fighting against, but the attack is easily dispatched. He further uses it against Goku while possessed by Babidi (the attack name is heard, but not seen) and then later against a swarm of Buu's while buying time for Goku to charge his spirit bomb.

This move is one of Vegeta's desperation moves in the Dragon Ball Z: Budōkai series.

The favored killing technique of Freeza. He extends his right arm and fires a small, very fast bullet-like beam of ki from his index finger, which barrels down and pierces through an opponent. Able to be fired exceedingly quickly while maintaining precise aim. Freeza murders both Dende and Vegeta in this fashion, also heavily wounding Piccolo.

As a special ability gained from Freeza, Cell uses the same skill against Gohan when the young saiyan first confronts him, and later to end the life of Trunks after a surprise return from self-destruction.

It is referred to as "Death Beam" in the American releases of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series of videogames.

An attack used against Imperfect Cell, Piccolo gathers power in front of him with his hands near his stomach then pushes the energy towards the opponent.

The name is never used in the manga or anime series directly. It only appears in an episode title from the start of the confrontation a few episodes prior (The Gekiretsu Kōdan that Split the Heavens!! Piccolo vs. Artificial Human No. 17), and various Dragon Ball video games. In the English video games it is called Light Grenade and in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, it is called Light Grenade, but when Piccolo uses it, he yells "Fury Bullet!". It is often mistakenly named Chōbakuretsumaha. On the DVD of the English anime, if the English subtitles are on, this attack is incorrectly labelled as "Makosen".

A move taught to Gokū by North Kaiō, it is a blue ball of energy collected from all living things. At first, Gokū made a Genki Dama by collecting spare energy from nature in his battle against Vegeta; though he was too battered to use it himself and had Kuririn throw it for him. Later, in his confrontation against Freeza, Gokū made a much bigger one on Planet Namek by collecting energy from Planet Namek's stars and planets, as there was very little life left on the planet itself. Finally, while fighting Majin-Buu, Gokū makes a huge Genki Dama from as much energy as the people of Earth could give, as well as from other planets and even the afterlife.

Despite the Genki Dama's power, it has only succeeded in destroying its target once in the manga, though it heavily weakened those that it failed to kill.

In the Cell Saga, Cell claimed that he was also able to use the Genki Dama due to having Goku's cells, though he never actually used it.

  • In this movie, he absorbed the energy directly in order to ascend to a higher level of power rather than throw it at his opponent.

In Dragon Ball GT, Goku also used to defeat Yi Xing Long at the end of the series; this was the ultimate form of the technique, as Goku harnessed the power from all living creatures in the universe.

Cell is able to use the Genki Dama as his most powerful move in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai video game series.

One of Vegeta's signature moves. To utilize it, he curls his fingers and places both his hands together at chest level facing the same direction (so that the palm of one hand is on the back of the other) and then, once enough ki is gathered, he thrusts both hands forward to fire a powerful blast of energy. He uses this move against Goku in the Saiyan Saga, but Goku repels it with a kamehameha.

There is considerable debate about the correct transliteration of the move's name, with some fans thinking it is Garlic Gun or Gallic Gun, etc. Garlic gun would fit in with the Saiyan convention of using vegetables for names.

Non-manga usage
Semi-perfect Cell used it against Vegeta, to no effect.

In Dragon Ball GT, Vegeta uses it again against Bebi-possessed Gohan.
In Dragonball GT Beb-Vegeta in his Golden-Oozaru form uses what he calls a Super-Galick Gun.

Android #16's signature move, he removes his hands, revealing two built-in cannons, and charges up energy before shouting "Hell Flash!!" to release a powerful beam of energy that scorches the opponent.

In the English manga, due to religious references, the Hell Flash is called the "Inferno Blast", but is called "Hell Flash" in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games. Android 16 only says the command "Blasters Fire!" to use it in the English anime.

This is one of Goku's first special moves he ever uses. The Jan-ken is essentially a series of three blows to subdue the opponent: first, "Rock", a punch; second, "Scissors", an eyepoke; and third, "Paper", an open-palm blow. Gokū first uses this move against a bear thief that wanted to eat Umigame (Muten-Rôshi's sea turtle), and continues to use it up to his first fight with General Blue.

This is simply the act of releasing all of one's energy in an explosive, suicidal blast. It is a last ditch effort, used only when a fighter isn't strong enough to defeat his opponent by any other means. Users of this attack often attempt to grab their opponents first, in order to maximize the damage.

The Saibaman fighting Yamcha kills him in the first and the only successful Jibaku in the series. Chaozu uses it himself shortly after against Nappa to little effect. Many of Dr. Gero's creations had an explosive installed to simulate this effect, though #16 is the only one who attempted to use it. Cell uses it as well, in an attempt to destroy the solar system. Vegeta uses a technique that is similar on Buu, called Saishyuu Saigo no Waza or "Ultimate Final Skill." This is called Final Explosion in the English translations of the Budokai series of video games. This variant is different in that it creates a 360 degree energy burst around the user, but does not cause the user's body to explode. Vegeta's body turned grey and crumbled to ash afterwards though.

Non-manga usage
While sparring against Piccolo in the afterlife, Chaozu grabs on to Piccolo's back and begins to initiate the Jibaku, but before he can complete it, Piccolo plucks him off and slams him on the ground.

In Dragon Ball GT, Goku uses this technique against Super 17, but is saved from destruction when the artificial human puts up a forcefield that somehow shields both himself and Goku from the blast. Goku also comes close to using this technique against Yi Xing Long before Vegeta stops him.

This technique is used by Gokū to multiply his speed and power, often letting him work on an equal level against an initially more powerful foe. It can be doubled, tripled, and eventually reaches the 20 fold level. The kaiō-ken is, however, dangerous and can do damage (potentially fatal) to the user's body if the user can't control their ki properly. Gokū stops using this technique once he is able to access the more potent Super Saiyan state.

Non-manga usage
In the anime only, Goku uses the kaiō-ken as a Super Saiyan during the Anoyo-ichi Budōkai, thus creating the "Super kaiō-ken", which increases his power incredibly.

In the game Dragon Ball Z: Budokai (and its sequel, Budokai 2), the move was translated as "King Kai Fist." This error is corrected in the rest of the series.

Piccolo uses this move against Jinzō'ningen #17, firing many blasts of ki, which apparently miss, when in reality Piccolo stops them in a way that completely surrounds his opponent, then makes them all fly towards his opponent at once. It is powerful and hard to dodge.

In the English dub it is called Guided Scatter Shot and in games it is called Hellzone Grenade or Makankuuhouidan. It is also sometimes known as Renzoku Senkō Dan.

The signature technique known by most students of the Turtle School, it consists of a large ball of energy propelled by a powerful beam. It is among the most flexible of all attacks in Dragon Ball. The Kamehameha was created by Muten-Rôshi (Kame Sen'nin, known as "Master Roshi" in the English anime), and was taught to several of the Z Senshi of Earth, including Kuririn, Son Gohan, Son Goten, Pan and Grandpa Son Gohan. Son Goku learned the technique initially by seeing Roshi perform it, but it was an imperfect version whose use drained him and left him incredibly hungry, due to inefficient channeling of Ki energy. He mastered it upon seeing Roshi use it against at the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai. Cell can also perform the Kamehameha due to having some of Goku's cells. Yamcha learned this move on his own (and later perfected it while training with Muten-Rôshi) during the training for the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. Tenshinhan gained the ability to perform the Kamehameha when he observed it being used against himself by Yamcha.

In the anime, Vegetto uses the Kamehameha against Super Buu.

Kuririn's signature move, and most powerful attack, the kienzan is a razor sharp disk of energy that can slice through nearly anything; its main weakness is a lack of accuracy.

Kuririn first used this against Nappa, but the saiyan dodged it, resulting in only a gash on his cheek. He tried again, against Oozaru Vegeta, in an attempt to cut off his tail, but Vegeta dodged it. Later, during the battle with Freeza, Kuririn was able to slice off Freeza's tail while he was in his second form as well as let loose several kienzans at once.

Vegeta, Jinzō'ningen #18, and Gokū have similar attacks which they use one time each. Vegeta uses it during the Saiyan Saga to cut off Ōzaru Gohan's tail, Jinzō'ningen #18 uses it when she faces "Mighty Mask" in the Tenka-ichi Budōkai to reveal him as Trunks and Son Goten in costume, and Goku uses it when he first returns to life and faces Super Buu, though Kuririn's Kienzan is slightly more potent than these (i.e. It doesn't explode if it hits a target too tough to pierce; it (in the manga) cannot be stopped).

Tsuibi Kienzan
A variant of the Kienzan, this energy disk can be controlled by the creator to change direction. This was the final attack used by Freeza in his battle against Goku; it backfired though, as Goku was able to get the disk to slice Freeza in half.

Non-manga usage
Kuririn uses this attack several times in the anime as well, including a version that splits apart and attacks the target from multiple angles. He tries to use it against Cell just after he absorbs Jinzō'ningen 18, but it failed, with the disk shattering on Cell's neck. He cut Kid Buu in half with this technique when he arrived on Dai Kaio's planet in the Afterlife.

In the anime, Cell is also shown to use the Tsuibi Kienzan attack during the Cell games and he also uses two Kienzan on Gohan after he transforms. In Dragon Ball GT, Freeza uses it when he fights Goku in Hell, only to have it backfire at him again. In the anime, this variation is colored purple with a red center.

Tenshinhan's most potent attack, the Kikōhō is an energy blast which gets its tremendous power by drawing on the lifeforce of its user; potentially killing them in the process if not used properly.

Tenshinhan first uses this attack in the 22nd Tenka-ichi Budōkai to destroy the ring and attempt to force Goku to be disqualified. He uses it later during Goku's battle with Piccolo to quickly create a trench for Goku's friends to take shelter in when Piccolo unleashes his Chōbakuretsumaha attack. In the Vegeta Saga, Tenshinhan killed himself by attempting a one handed Kikōhō against Nappa in an attempt to avenge Chaozu. In the Cell Saga, he uses an upgraded version, the Shin Kikoho (which can be fired multiple times in rapid succession), to stall Semi-Perfect Cell from absorbing Jinzō'ningen #18, and nearly sapped all his lifeforce in doing so. He uses it one final time in the Buu Saga to destroy a blast fired by Buu at Dende.

The move is called Tri-Beam in FUnimation's dub, which refers to the way Tenhsinhan tents his fingers to use the move. It is called Ki Blast Cannon in most of the Budōkai games (though Tenshinhan still says "Tri-Beam" or simply "Blast Cannon"), and Spirit Cannon in the Blue Water dub of Dragon Ball. In the manga translation, it is called "Chi Kung Blast".

"Neo Ki Blast Cannon" is the translated name of the Shin Kikoho and ultimate attack in Dragon Ball Z: Budōkai 3. It is the only Ultimate-Move that actually increases in power if the opponent manages to defend against it, but it then damages Tenshinhan as well (allowing for the rare "Double KO"). In the anime, the Cell Juniors used it against Super Saiyan 2 Gohan during the Cell Games. Cell himself has never actually used the move, but obviously knew it since his children could utilize it in the anime.

A precise laser-like beam is shot from both eyes. Potency varies somewhat, but most are very fast and able to nullify weak attacks and small projectiles, as well as cripple opponents and other objects.

This attack is first used by King Piccolo to kill one of the gate guards of the King of the World's castle when he and his servant Piano invade the base.

In the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budôkai, Tenshinhan is shown to use a variation of this attack, firing a single beam from his third eye to stun an airborne Gokū. In the same tournament, Piccolo Junior uses it to nullify Kuririn's twin homing beams and again in an attempt to break a grapple with Gokū. Piccolo later uses it near the beginning of Gohan's combat training to silence Gohan's complaints about harsh conditions, and again as a surprise attack to halt Gohan's offensive.

Freeza is shown using this attack in the Freeza story arc as a means to enter the hut of the elder namek Saichurō and again later in his battle against Gokū. As well, Dr. Gero used a powerful version of this technique to destroy a large section of South City.

Non-manga usage
In the anime, Nappa performs the Kousengan during the Saiyan Saga when attacking the Earth's military forces while he and Vegeta are waiting for Gokū to arrive. Piccolo later uses this attack while grappling with Freeza. Kami also uses this technique during the Garlic Jr. Saga of the anime in an attempt to slow down Garlic Jr.'s attempt to take over the lookout. Later Android #16 uses it against Imperfect Cell in order to free himself from a stranglehold.

Coola also uses this attack in the 5th Dragon Ball Z Movie, in an attempt to injure/kill Son Gohan. Gokū gets in the way of the blast, however.

The Kousengan can vary in colour from red to a bright blue-tinged white.

A technique used to increase the strength and power of a fighter by growing larger to transform into a giant version of themselves, sometimes topping over 200 feet.

This technique was first used by Piccolo in the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budōkai against Gokū, after eating the jar containing Kami. By entering through Piccolo's mouth, Gokū rescues Kami and continues the match against Piccolo who transforms back to his normal state.

It is also sometimes called Chō Kyoshin Jutsu (超巨身術).

Non-manga usage
Piccolo was shown using a variation of this move in the Garlic Jr. Saga to fight Garlic Jr. on an equal level after the villain transformed. This version of the technique is nowhere near as enormous as when Piccolo used it against Goku, but it does increase Piccolo's muscle size much more and makes him as tall as the transformed Garlic Jr.. In the movies, the original version of the technique was used by Lord Slug.

A technique designed to seal demons away by sucking them into a container with a special "Demon Seal" ofuda on it. The move requires so much of the user's life force to perform that those who use it, successfully or unsuccessfully, are likely to die soon afterward. This move was first used (unseen in the manga) against Piccolo Daimaō by Mutaito-sama to trap him inside a jar during his first rampage.

After Daimaō was released from his prison by Pilaf, he was confronted by Muten-Rōshi who nearly succeeded in using the Mafuba to contain him again, but missed at the last second and then died shortly afterwards. The attempt was witnessed by Tenshinhan, who learned the Mafuba from watching Roshi perform it and practicing a scaled-down version of it himself several times. When he finally confronted Piccolo, he was not able to use the technique as the container he was going to use as the demon's prison was cracked, and therefore useless.

In the later confrontation between Kami and Piccolo Jr., Kami demonstrated his knowledge of the technique and attempted to use it to seal away Piccolo. Piccolo countered with a Reverse Mafuba technique which he was able to use against Kami and seal him with. Neither Piccolo or Kami died as a result of the Mafuba usage, and Kami specifically stated that it would be a way for him to get rid of Piccolo without dying himself (their lives were connected so that if one died, the other would as well). It can thus be surmized that if one is sufficiently powerful, they can use this ability without perishing.

Piccolo knows how to both reflect and then use this technique properly. If he didn't know how to initiate it earlier, then he certainly gained that knowledge after merging with Kami.

Non-manga usage
Tenshinhan used the Mafuba against Piccolo Daimaō during a pause in his battle with Drum. The attempt failed though, as Drum placed himself between Daimaō and the Mafuba. As Drum was hurling towards the jar, Daimaō blasted it, allowing Drum to remain free.

In the video game Dragon Ball Z: Super Sonic Warriors, Piccolo uses this against Super Buu in his story mode.

A powerful beam attack created by Piccolo as a way to destroy his then arch-enemy Gokū. Piccolo first used the Makankōsappō in the battle against Raditz, killing both him and Gokū.

The move is performed by touching the index and middle fingers of one hand to the forehead and charging enough energy to attack. When ready the fingers are extended forward, the attacker shouts the name of the attack and a thin curly-cue like ray of energy is released. The resulting beam is quite powerful, drilling through most targets, and exploding on the one's it can't. The main disadvantage of the attack is the time required to build up enough energy for the focused burst.

During the battle with Nappa, Piccolo used a blast with a similar appearance, though he fired it differently (both hands fully outstretched) and did not have to charge it up.

Non-manga usage
In the anime, Piccolo uses it additional times when battling Garlic Jr. and as a mental projection created inside Buu's mind. Son Gohan also uses a very similar move while practicing with Kuririn (in a mental battle) on the way to Namek. Additionally, it is used by Cell twice, the Cell Juniors, and later by Buu after he absorbs Piccolo.

In the Dragon Ball Z movies, Piccolo uses this move in several of the ones he appears in.

In the non-manga uses of this move, the charging time is much shorter, though the resulting blast is seemingly much less powerful.

Gohan's signature move, he puts his hands above his head (one palm behind the other) to charge up ki, and puts them forward with the palms crossing to release a powerful energy beam. Gohan learned this move during his training with Piccolo prior to Vegeta and Nappa's arrival on Earth.

Gohan uses this move twice in the battle with the saiyans. Once as a retaliatory attack against Nappa after the giant killed Piccolo and the second time against Vegeta while he was stalling him to buy Kuririn time to hit him with Goku's genki dama.

Due to the name, it is likely that Piccolo created the move. He is shown using it on one occasion when confronting Freeza with Gohan and Kuririn shortly after the murder of Dende.

Non-manga usage
On the journey to Namek, Gohan uses it while on an orphans spaceship to push back an explosion and save a girl. When on false Namek, he uses it twice in a brief battle with a giant.

Piccolo uses it in the anime when he blasts Cell in the back to assist Gohan during their beam struggle. When Buu is battling against Vegetto, the kamikaze ghosts he creates are able to use this attack, though in the English dub, it is called Galic Gun instead.

There was also an instance in the anime where Gohan shouts out "Masenko!" when he actually fires a bakurikimaha at Freeza (after Freeza transforms into his third form and shoots Piccolo multiple times).

Oozaru are giant ape-like creatures that Saiyans with tails can transform into after staring into full celestial bodies (most commonly the full moon, but in Dragon Ball GT Goku uses a full Earth, instead of the moon, to transform). In this form, a Saiyan is much more powerful. Their physical strength is greatly increased, and in Dragon Ball Z they are able to fire large blasts of energy from their mouths. In Dragon Ball GT this ability is replaced with fire-breath. Lower-class Saiyans in the Oozaru state lose control of their minds, becoming beast-like and feral. This attack only appears in the anime. The technique is only seen twice in Dragon Ball Z used by Jheese and Butta of the Ginyu Force. Jheese powers up and glows red and Butta powers up and glows blue, then they fly together in a small circle motion, quickly, until the two colours combine and become purple. Yamcha's signature move, it is a series of strikes and grips that resembles the clawing and biting of a wolf. During the preparation stages of this move, Yamcha crouches into a low position, then bolts at his opponent, seemingly taking on the appearance of a wolf.

While battling against Tenshinhan in the 22nd Tenka-ichi Budōkai, Yamcha uses an upgraded version of this attack called Shin-Rōgafūfūken, but Tenshinhan is able to defeat it.

In the anime, Yamcha has a variant of this move which he uses in his battle against Tenshinhan where he jumps extremely high in the air between the sun and his opponent. He then descends very quickly, with the image of a wolf taking his place, and, on connecting with the opponent, he then delivers a series of rapid mid-air kicks before hopping off and delivering a roundhouse kick to knock the opponent down.

Yamcha doesn't use the move in Dragon Ball Z, but it is one of his special attacks in the Dragon Ball Z: Budōkai games.

A special attack where Goku throws a fist at his opponent, seemingly taking on the form of a golden dragon. The dragon manifests itself into a physical being that punches right through its target before exploding or just fading away. This move is never shown in the manga.

Goku uses the move as Dragon Fire in the 13th Dragon Ball Z movie Wrath of the Dragon (The title itself referring to this attack), and three times in Dragon Ball GT; the first time to punch a hole through Super 17, the second time to defeat the three-star dragon, and once against Yi Xing Long the one-star dragon.

It is Goku's alternate ultimate attack in Dragon Ball Z: Budōkai 3, used when he is in the Super Saiyan state or higher instead of the genki dama. It also is part of his desperation attack in the SNES game, Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension, as well as his Ultimate Blast move in Budokai Tenkaichi 2 when he is in Super Saiyan 3 state or selected as his Super Saiyan 4 version.

A Namekian trait that allows any Namek to replace limbs lost in battle. We first see this ability during the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budôkai after Goku redirects Piccolo's own homing Tsuihidan back at Piccolo and damages Piccolo's arm. Piccolo then proceeds to tear the injured arm off, to the horror of the spectators, and regenerate a new one.

In the Vegeta Saga, we see this again after Piccolo loses another arm from Raditz's twin beams which he regenerates after Raditz has been defeated. During the Freeza saga Nail has his arm torn off by Freeza but regenerates it, much to the surprise of Freeza.

Later on, during the fight with Imperfect Cell, Piccolo has his arm drained by Cell leaving an emaciated brown stick. But Piccolo distracts Cell long enough to regenerate his arm back. Later still, in the Buu Saga, Piccolo demonstrates that he can regenerate from any wound so long as his head is intact.

Cell acquired the ability by being created in part by Piccolo's cells, absorbing that part of his Namekian makeup. On several occasions Cell regenerates from extremely severe wounds, including one which left no part of his body except for the regenerative organ intact.

Majin Buu seemingly has a similar ability, allowing him to regenerate lost appendages, holes in his body, recover from being blown to pieces, or even being blasted to vapor. In his case though, his entire body is in an unstable form and each singular piece of him, even as a fine dust, is able to reform back to his original shape.

Sai Sei may or may not be a basic part of all Namekians, since it may take some physical and mental training before nameks can use this ability. It also appears to be quite an exhausting procedure, every time after it is performed the user is breathing extremely heavily from the effort and strain, and requires absolute concentration of mind and body. It has been pointed out that regrowing limbs causes a severe drain on the power level of the Namek.

Non-manga usage
This is also seen in DBZ Movie 4, utilized by Lord Slug. After transforming into a Giji form of super saiyan, Goku damages Lord Slugs arm. Lord Slug shocks Goku by tearing it off regenerating a new one. Similarly, in the same movie, Piccolo rips off his own ears to avoid hearing Gohan's whistling tune (unbearable to Namekians' sensitive ears) but later uses Sai Sei to instantly grow his ears back, to everyone's amusement.

In the original Saban/Ocean Group English dub of DBZ, Tenshinhan made the claim after losing his left arm to an attack by Nappa that his arm would grow back. This was part of their attempts to sanitize the series; Tenshinhan, as well as any other human, has no ability to naturally regrow lost limbs. Although he does have the ability to grow extra limbs temporarily for combat use (see "Shiyōken" below), he never said in the manga or anime (or future English translations thereof) that he could regrow lost limbs.

The Shunkan Idō is a technique for instantly teleporting, learned by Gokū after his fight with Freeza. It allows Gokū and anyone that is in contact with him to instantly travel great distances (from meters to light-years, or even travel between the living world and the afterlife) just by concentrating on a particular individual's energy signature and 'transmitting' to that being's location. This action is usually accompanied by Gokū placing his index and middle fingers on his forehead to help him concentrate, though if extra time is taken the technique can be performed without this aid. In the FUNimation dub of the anime, Gokū describes the technique as allowing him to move at the speed of light, but this is clearly inaccurate given his use of the technique to travel from Earth to New Namek and to North Kaiō's planet in the afterlife.

The people on the planet Yardrat taught Shunkan Idō to Gokū during a stop over while he was racing Freeza back to Earth after their fight on the Planet Namek. He intended to use the technique to get to Earth before Freeza could harm anyone, but found it unnecessary because Future Trunks had already come to finish Freeza off.

Perfect Cell also learns this technique through absorbing Goku's cells after his self-destruction on the planet of the North Kaiô (King Kai) (near the end of the Cell Games Saga of Dragon Ball Z). Kid Buu masters it after having only seen it once.

Kami, Mr. Popo and Kibito also know a variation of the technique called the Kai Kai technique (Instantaneous Movement in the FUNimation dub of Dragon Ball GT), but it does not require an energy signature to home in on. This knowledge is retained by Kibitoshin after East Kaiōshin and Kibito use the Potara Earrings to fuse.

It can also be utilized in conjuncture with attacks; the Shunkan Idō Kamehameha was used by Gokū during his fight with Cell. Gokū charges up for the Kamehameha (up to KA-ME-HA-ME) high up in the air, pretending to be shooting the Kamehameha from there (which would blow the Earth away if he did) and then uses the Shunkan Idō to appear right in front of Cell and blasts him with the final syllable (HA!). In Dragon Ball Z Budokai, the attack is referred to as the Warp Kamehameha.

Non-manga usage
In the movies, Coola's metal clone servants in the sixth DBZ movie also have the knowledge of Shunkan Idō. Their method of obtaining the technique is unknown, however it was stated that Coola knew the technique before he came to Earth. Coola used it to escape from the sun after Gokū launched him there.

In the anime, North Kaiō stated he knew the technique, when Son Gokū visited him on his planet to find the location of the New Namek. In the manga, North Kaiō was amazed by the existence of such an ability.

Gotenks' signature move. Gotenks expels ghost-shaped bubbles from his mouth, that imitate his likeness/personality, and are generated with ki. They are touch sensitive and explode when they touch anything, including each other (they had once high-fived each other and exploded). When Gotenks's power level increases, the explosive power of this attack also goes up. Gotenks can choose the quantity of ghost at his command. He has previously released 10 individuals for one attack, and also used a Super Ghost Balloon which broke down into 14 ghosts. Each ghost appears to have a mind of its own, and can behave much differently than other ghosts. However, they do obey and follow Gotenks' instructions. Super Buu also uses this move after he absorbs Gotenks.

Non-manga usage
In DBZ Movie 12, Gotenks uses this attack, summoning 100 to fight against The Dictator and his undead army who are attacking Satan City.

A special move Yamcha invented for the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budōkai, Yamcha gathers a large amount of energy in one of his hands, holding his wrist with the other hand for support; once he has enough he creates a whirling ball of energy which he can control with finger movements. It is very fast, and Yamcha can cause it to continuously attack his opponent until it connects. It can also go underground, creating unexpected attack by coming back up directly under the opponent.

In the anime only, Yamcha developed an upgrade called the "Super Sokidan" which he used while fighting the saiyans in the past. Much like the regular Sōkidan, it explodes on users command. The only difrence between normal and the Super Sokidan is the size and power. Super Sokidan is even larger than Yamcha himself and has much more power than regular Sokidan.

It is sometimes confused with Gokū's Genki Dama attack, due to the similar sounding English names, and the way Yamcha forms the Sōkidan (spirt ball) from his fist, which is similar to the way Goku forms a small Genki Dama.

In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, Sokidan is Yamcha's Super Finishing Move.

An extremely bright light used to temporarily blind and stun most opponents, commonly to incapacitate them long enough for the user to make a quick escape. It, in short, reflects the sun's light into the foe's eyes. It was first used by Tenshinhan at the 22nd Tenka-ichi Budōkai as an ace-up-the-sleeve in his battle against Jackie Chun, who is Muten-Rôshi a.k.a. Kame-Sen'nin in disguise. He tried it again against Gokū, but it failed due to counter measures(sunglasses) taken by the latter. At the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budōkai, Gokū demonstrated that he had learned the technique and used it to aid him in defeating an outclassed Tenshinhan. Since then it has been used on numerous occasions to aid a character in distracting or escaping from their opponent(s).

The Tsuno Beam is a bolt of electricity fired from the antennae. The attack shocks its victim, stunning them.

It is first seen when Goku invades Muscle Tower, one of the main bases of the Red Ribbon Army, and faces Monster Buyon. Buyon uses it to daze Goku, allowing the monster the chance to try and swallow him, though Goku quickly escapes from the creatures mouth.

It is next seen during the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budôkai in which it is used by Piccolo Junior. After Goku hits Piccolo with a punch driven by a kamehameha he blasted from his feet, Piccolo quickly retaliates with the electric blast. Goku is then sent crashing to the ground and left vulnerable to a follow-up attack, though Kami intervenes and blocks it.

The Tsuihidan is an attack first used by Piccolo Junior during the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budôkai. After Goku had managed to foil Piccolo's many other attempts to defeat him, Piccolo grew enraged and used this weapon in another attempt to defeat Goku.

Piccolo uses this in a similar manner to the Bakurikimaha, with one arm supporting the one that is firing the beam itself. The Tsuihidan is yellow-orange in colour and the beam itself is faster than the Bakurikimaha and in addition also has the ability to home in on its target, with considerable power, but not as much as the Bakurikimaha.

After using this attack Goku at first is dimissive of it, unimpressed by its unoriginality, and simply leaps out of the way, however Goku soon realizes that he is mistaken after the beam turns around and comes right back at him. Goku then leaps high into the air and is again surprised by the beam's homing ability, and he fires a Kamehameha to stay ahead of it, with Piccolo laughing maniacally at Goku's plight, saying Goku cannot possibly escape.

Goku soon proves otherwise and Piccolo is the one left surprised after Goku suddenly drops out of the air and runs at Piccolo and leads the beam directly into a horrified Piccolo, badly wounding Piccolo's arm; forcing Piccolo to tear it off and regenerate a new one.

There is also speculation that Piccolo uses this same attack in Dragon Ball Z movie 5 to vaporize Doore, one of Cooler's personal militiamen. The beam's colour, considerable power and homing capability lead many to believe this is the case.

This is a technique that, like minor ki blasts, can be used by nearly every fighting character on the show. In the English dub of Dragonball, Jackie Chun calls this technique the "Devils Afterimage".

With this ability, the character can move so quickly that they leave an image of themselves behind. Most often it is used to dodge an incoming attack and get behind the opponent to perform a counter-attack.

In both the 21st and the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, during his fight with Goku and Tenshinhan respectivly, Jackie Chun is able to perform a "Tajū Zanzōken" (Multiple Afterimages), where he spins around his opponant, leaving a lot of afterimages of himself. In this form, it is hard to tell which one is the real Jackie Chun. Goku adapted this technique in the 21st Budokai and was able to produce more afterimages then Jackie Chun, in an attempt to fool him with his own attack.

Non-manga usage
During the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai in the anime, Kuririn uses it once against Son Goku when they were pitted against each other. Later on in Dragon Ball GT, SS4 Goku and Vegeta used this to distract Omega Shenron while attempting fusion.
