[edit] Placement of leased aircraft

Leasing companies ILFC and LCAL have orders for 36 787s as of June 16, 2006.

On May 12, 2006, ILFC announced it had placed two 787-8s with Air Seychelles. The aircraft will be delivered in May and September of 2010, on 12 year leases. [50]

On May 29, 2006, ILFC reached an agreement with Aeroméxico to place 3 787-8s with that airline. The aircraft will be delivered from the beginning of 2010, for an unspecified lease period. These three aircraft are to be powered by GE's GEnx engine for Aeromexico. [51]

On August 7, 2006, Flyglobespan concluded the lease agreement of 2 Boeing 787-8 from ILFC [52].

[edit] Future Orders

  • British Airways is considering the aircraft[53].
  • It has been suggested that Emirates is considering the 787.
  • Cathay Pacific is currently in talks about the 787-9.
  • Philippine Airlines is currently embarking on a fleet modernization program. The 787 is being considered for the long-haul fleet.
  • Etihad Airlines is also attempting to boost capacity and is looking at the 787 (larger variants) to supplement it's fleet.
  • Many have suggested that American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, both large operators of the Boeing 767, are also likely to place orders for when their finances are in better shape. Delta and American were two of three airlines (the third being Continental Airlines) to sign an exclusivity agreement with Boeing in the late 1990s. When Boeing acquired McDonnell Douglas, the European Union forced Boeing to void the contracts. However, all parties have been adhering to and intend to adhere to the terms under gentlemen's agreements.
    • In addition, Delta Air Lines, along with United Airlines have made bids to become part of the 787 GoldCare support program, providing maintenance, repair, and overhaul services.[54]
  • It has also been suggested that United Airlines is interested in purchasing the 787. Previously, United was considered a "wildcard", with the potential of purchasing either the Boeing 787 or the Airbus A350. However, United, along with Delta Air Lines, have made bids for the 787 GoldCare support program, which may increase the chance of United choosing the 787 over the A350.
  • Lufthansa has stated that they will wait for the development of the A350 before deciding between that plane and the Boeing 787.
