- In the Manga
A lighthearted, courageous man who's highly skilled with a gun, on a practically supernatural level. He works as a sweeper with his partner Sven. He seems to enjoy tormenting him and tightening their already small budget as low-paid sweepers, as it is shown, for example, by his exaggerated food consumption. Some of Train's distinguishing features are his spikey brown ruffled hair, his catlike slitted eyes, a choker with a tiny bell attached to it, and the XIII tattoo he has on his chest. He has low alcohol tolerance, but loves to drink milk. His nickname is "Black Cat", and was given to him when he was still working as an assassin in Chronos. His weapon-of-choice is Hades, an ornate black revolver with a matching XIII engraved into its side. He received this gun when he entered Chronos, and still uses it. He is also skilled at disguises, can sleep anywhere even inside a cramped porcelain vase and tends to be clueless about most other important things, for instance he couldn't remember what he originally looked like after turning into a child and gets bored of reading after the contents page.
In the past, he was once a bitter, emotionless assassin, but after he met Minatsuki Saya, he began to loosen up and was moved by her freedom as a sweeper. His partner in Chronos, Creed Diskenth, was not pleased by this change in Train, and killed Saya. Train afterwards left the Chronos in order to be an independent sweeper in the memory of Saya, and later on joined with Sven Vollfied as his partner. Once Creed appears, Train decides to capture him, not as an assassin seeking revenge, but as a sweeper. Following his incident of being reverted to a child due to Doctor's Lucifer nanomachine, Train becomes able to charge his Hades with his body's cell energy to make a regular bullet much faster and more powerful; enough to actually pierce an alloy plate. Hades is then compared to one of the scientific-research supersonic-speed-shooting guns, no more no less than a "Rail Gun". He also has a few melee moves he uses with Hades, which he uses when he wants to defeat Shiki at Clarken Island, when he realizes that he trusts too much in Tao, so he decides to try to make Shiki realize Tao's not a "Perfect" technique, so he shoots his fourth Rail Gun shot at the air (He only could shoot four per day if he wanted the Rail Gun energy circle to renovate normally), saying that he doesn't even need the Rail Gun to beat Tao. In the final battle, he beats Creed by focusing all of his mental and physical energy into shooting one more Rail Gun shot, in combination with a burst bullet. The resulting shot is so powerful, it shatters Creed's sword, as well as partly destroying Hades. After the defeat of Creed, Train was unable to use the rail gun attack. His own theory on this occurrence was that Saya provided it for him spiritually only in order to defeat Creed.
Eight months later, Sven repaired Hades for Train albeit with some parts not made of Orichalcum, shown in the ending.
- In the Anime
Normal Train Voiced by: Kondo Takashi (Japanese), Jason Liebrecht (English)
Child Train Voiced by: Minami Takayama
In the anime version of Black Cat, Train's overall personality remained unchanged, but certain events are different. For example, Train and Sven met before the death of Saya, and conflicted against one another as they received the same target for their respective jobs of Eraser and Sweeper. Train's bell choker was actually given to him by Eve who read an old fable believing that the bell would change him into a "good cat".Train is too clueless to realize that Eve likes him. Also worth noting is the fact that Sven referred to Train as a "kid" during their first meeting. This could imply that Train in the anime is younger than 23. He does appear slightly younger, but that could be the difference in art style. In the Anime, Train's transformation through Lucifer wasn't even intentional once again but instead the Doctor meant to hit Kyoko rather than Creed trying to shot Sven, and he doesn't need Dr. Tearju's help to return back, as she doesn't even show up in that part of the anime. Train doesn't beat Creed using the Rail Gun, as he doesn't even acquire that skill in the Anime, but by using an Orichalcon Bullet Sephiria told him to use, to unleash "Hades's true power". When the Eden plot takes place, Train goes along with Sven to save Eve, and ends up meeting Zaguine's "ghost", while Sven aimlessly tries to save Eve. Train's the one who fires the crucial shot that hits the flower that is imprisoning Eve right in its stem, freeing Eve from Eden. After that, he travels the world as a stray.
[edit] Sven Vollfied
Age: 30 Years
Date of Birth: June 23rd
Height: 180 cm (5 ft 9 in)
Weight: 72kg (160 lb)
Blood Type: A
Weapon: Modified Attache Case
Special Ability: Vision Eye
Likes: Music, Cigarettes
Dislikes: Kids, Being in Debt
Hobbies: Working on his car & Inventing
- In the Manga
Sven is a veteran sweeper, who takes the role of a mature figure in the manga. He follows a strict "gentlemen" code; he is always respectful to women and children and acts very proper. He is often tortured by Train's capricious personality and is usually dragged into trouble (and debt) because of it. He also has quite a close relationship with Eve.
Sven is also skilled in inventing and making innovative weapons and other various equipment. This includes bombs and special bullets for Train. Sven's weapon of choice was originally a normal pistol, but after that was destroyed, he invented a suitcase equipped with hidden weaponry inside of it. He occasionally uses his eye of foresight, which is usually covered by his black eyepatch. It allows him to see a few seconds in the future and proves convenient sometimes. However, it drains much of his physical energy.
In the past, Sven was originally an IBI (International Bureau of Investigation) detective (Source: Volume 4). His partner and friend was Lloyd Goldwyn, who had the ability of clarvoyance. Lloyd died by saving Sven from a gang of drug dealers, as it was Lloyd's daughter's birthday and Sven tried to go alone, but Lloyd foresaw Sven's danger and showed up to save him, getting shot in the process. Before he died though, Lloyd donated his right eye to Sven, whose eye was ruined by being hit by a wrench. This is how Sven received his foresight ability, called Vision Eye.
The Vision Eye allows Sven to see a time range from seconds to minutes in the future, and consumes much energy, making Sven have to rest every time he uses it. On the final part of the manga, right before the attack on Clarken Island, Sven develops his Vision Eye into a new skill, not related to Lloyd, but belonging to his pure personal vision of things, which is Grasper Eye. This ability not only lets Sven use it during more time, and consuming less energy, but also means a great change: Sven can not only see the future, but also alter it.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Keiji Fujiwara (Japanese), Brandon Potter (English)
Likewise with Train, Sven's backstory remained more or less the same. However he appears to be the main comedic relief in the Anime. Also, Sven never went through intensive training before the assault on Clarken Island, and as such his Vision Eye never became the Grasper Eye. Sven is also many times referred to as "old man", even though he's only 30. This might result from his attitude of a gentleman which practically turns him into the most careful of the show's characters. Sven, together with Train, saves Eve, and in the end he decides to raise Eve like his "daughter". When Eve tells Sven if he's going to look for Train, he replies that he doesn't need to, as he's a stray cat, and they'll eventually meet.
The comic relief treatment given to Sven may be a nod to Fujiwara's tendency to voice comic roles, e.g. Maes Hughes in Full Metal Alchemist and Reno in Advent Children.
[edit] Eve
Age: 11 years
Date of Birth: Unknown
Height: 133 cm (About 4 ft 4 in)
Weight: 30 kg (66 lb)
Blood Type: AB
Special Ability: Transformation
Likes: Ice Cream, Fireworks, Kind People
Dislikes: Bad People
Hobbies: Reading, Practicing Transformation, Watching Sven in Particular, Observing
- In the Manga
Eve is a young girl who was cloned from Professor Tearju Lunatique. She was designed as the ultimate soldier, having been injected with nanomachines that allow her to change her body's shape and composition at will. Examples of this are turning her arms into blades, hammers and shields, turning her own skin into steel, sprouting wings, and firing feathers at ranged opponents. Her hair is her best weapon, as she can turn it into fists (or later, into monofilament blades) that attack with blurring speed. She was raised by Torneo Rudman (an influential dealer in the underground weapons market) to be an emotionless killing machine. However, Sven rescues her and teaches her how to live by her own choices. Now she travels with Sven and Train. She seems to perceive Train as a rival, wanting to replace him as Sven's partner. Additionally, she loves reading, and can remember everything in a book after reading it once. One of the transformations that is worth noting of Eve is when she turns into a mermaid, in her battle against Leon Elliott at Clarken Island.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Misato Fukuen (Japanese), Brina Palencia (English)
Eve does not seem to have the intense rivalry with Train as she did in the manga. This is most likely because due to the anime's altered timeline of events, Eve actually ended up joining Sven before Train does. Although in the anime Eve never displays the urge to replace Train as Sven's partner, she is still highly competitive with him, which is shown on many occasions when she would try to catch a criminal before he does. It is hinted in the anime that she has a 'romantic interest' in Sven. In addition, there is foreshadowing in the anime that Eve is cloned from Tearju Lunatique, as Tearju has appeared in the anime as a hospitalized patient with the same hair as Eve. After Creed's defeat in Clarken Island Eve is captured by Mason's Zero Numbers who then uses her to start the Eden project. Mason had arranged for Sven to capture Eve when the accident at Torneo's mansion occurred, so he would raise her well, as Eve saw Sven as the ideal paternal figure. That way, Mason could use Eve when she was mature enough to implant her in the Eden machine that would create the monstruous creature that is shown in the Anime, that would bring "world peace" by absorving every single person in the world, turning them into lobotomized creatures incapable of thought other than obeying Mason and his team. Eve does not resonate with Eden, as she's stopped in the final stage by Sven and Train, who rescue her.
[edit] Rinslet Walker
Age: 21 Years
Date of Birth: August 1st
Height: 167 cm (About 5 ft 5 in)
Weight: 48 kg (106 lb)
Blood Type: B
Occupation: Theif-For-Hire
Weapon: Whip, Gun
Likes: Money, Jewels, Cute little girls (especially Eve), Handsome Men
Dislikes: Sephiria (Manga Only), Jenos flirting, Ghosts, Narcissists
Hobbies: Shopping, Disguises, Tarot Card Reading
- In the Manga
Rinslet Walker is a thief-for-hire with a remarkable reputation who met Train. She works with him occasionally. Creed has captured Rinslet on a handful of occasions. After Train helped her, Rinslet started to respect Train although he often fools around. Rinslet sometimes hangs around Train, Sven and Eve and helps them in missions, but most often disappears to do her own thing after that. Rinslet is sometimes called "Rins" by her acquaintances, and likes disguises, treasure, and seeing Eve in cute outfits. When she wants to disguise herself, she uses a blonde wig, even though in the manga that only happens once in the start.
She is later (forcefully) hired by Chronos to act as a bait to lure the Kerberos team into an attack against the Apostles Of The Stars' castle when their whereabouts were unknown. Rinslet uses sensuality as a weapon to control men, which she considers to be inferior. She has a great self-esteem, and with a cute smile always gets Train and Sven to do what she wants many times along the plot.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Yukana (Japanese), Jamie Marchi (English)
In the Anime, Rinslet doesn't destroy Torneo's nanomachine lab, as Dr. Tearju has already destroyed it when she reaches it. She is not hired by Chronos to help find the location of the Apostles of The Stars' castle, as she is instead hired to steal a bottle of Shinkitou, the drink that allows people to gain the power of Tao. She finds Dr. Tearju in the final part of the story, bringing her along with the heroes to rescue Eve. In the anime, shes disguises herself with her blonde wig many more times than in the manga, impersonating "Elena". Also rather than a whip and a gun Rinslet is a very skilled and strong martial artist who specializes in delivering powerful kicks.
[edit] Chrono Numbers
Also known as Toki no Bannin or Chronos Time Guardians
[edit] Sephiria Arks
Number: I
Age: 27 Years
Date of Birth: January 1st
Height: 1m 70 (5 ft 7 in)
Weight: ?
Blood Type: A
Weapon: Christ (Orichalcum Sword)
Likes: Japanese Cuisine
Dislikes: Loud Music
Hobbies: Flower Arrangement
- In the Manga
Number I, thus making her the head of the Chronos Numbers. Her weapon is "Christ," an extremely sharp sabre made of Orichalcum (Orichalcon) that is incredibly strong. Despite her gentle looks and young age, her swordsmanship is such that she can attack extremely rapidly and precisely, not even producing sound when her sword makes a cut. She can also move with such speed as to create after-images to confuse opponents. She is young but very charismatic, and genuinely cares for life. She can also see through a person's soul, it is said, as she can guess exactly a person's feelings. As a result of that skill, she often manipulates others, such as Train Heartnet. While she can be cruel and hurtful in her ambition, she is not a mean-spirited person. No matter if it's a friend or a foe, she hates seeing anyone sacrificed - though in a battle with Creed Diskenth, she would have given up her own life (via an explosive bracelet) to destroy Creed, if Train hadn't intervened. In the final tankouban of Black Cat, she mentions that her body possesses an enhanced recovery time because she was "born to live for Chronos" and "wouldn't die so easily". She is also a master swordsman, knowing all thirty-six moves of her style, the ultimate being 'Apocalypse' which completely reduces a target to nothing.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue (Japanese), Lydia MacKay (English)
Sephiria holds much animosity towards Train for leaving Chronos, and is generally more aggressive than her Manga counter-part. Her appearance looks younger as well, and she seems to be near Train's age. Her manipulativeness is also played down in the Anime, and she is more forthright than sneaky. She decides to help Train in fighting Eden to rescue Eve when Train defiles her pride. In these battles she demonstrates her superior fighting abilities. At the end of the Anime, she leaves to rebuild Chronos from scratch.
[edit] Belze Rochefort (Also known as Berze Rochefort)
Number: II
Date of Birth: September 2nd
Age: 37 Years
Height: 192cm (6 ft 4 in)
Weight: 93kg (205 lb)
Blood Type: A
Weapon: Gungnir(anime),longinus(manga) (Orichalcum Spear)
Likes: Strawberries
Dislikes: None
Hobbies: Bonsai Trees
- In the Manga
Belze is the Chronos Numbers member Number II. Sephiria has trusted him since Train left the Chronos Numbers. His weapon is a spear named "Gungnir." While Belze is Sephiria's right hand man and second in command of the Numbers, it is worth noting that the rst of the Numbers' hierachy don't seem to follow an strict order. It has been stated in Belze's profile page from the manga though that the Number I represents Commanding Officer and II represents Vice Commander.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Hideyuki Hori (Japanese), Mike McFarland (English)
There is no noted difference between Belze in the anime and in the manga.
[edit] Emilio Lowe
Number: III
- In the Manga
This character did not appear in the manga.
- In the Anime
Chronos Number III, Emilio rarely appears in the Anime, mainly in the final part of the story, on the final attack on Creed's base on Clarken Island. After the defeat of Creed, he reveals himself as one of Mason's Zero Numbers, on the Eden project.
[edit] Kranz Maduke
Number: IV
Age: 26
Date of Birth: January 4th
Height: 190cm (6 ft 3 in)
Weight: 102kg (224 lb)
Blood Type: AB
Weapon: Mars (Orihalcum Knife)
Likes: Quiet Rooms
Dislikes: Noisy Streets
Hobbies: Classical Music
- In the Manga
Number IV, Kranz, was raised as an assassin for Chronos from birth, and, like Baldor, is extremely violent. Since losing his eyesight in a battle several years ago, he wears a helmet that conceals his eyes, and has learned to fight through sensing sound and movement. His weapon is a knife named "Mars." When Mars's switch is pressed, its blade will vibrate and become extremely sharp. He, together with Baldorias, is sent to capture Kyoko after she leaves the Apostles Of The Stars, and eventually engages in battle with Train in his Lucifer-changed child form, and later with Sven, when they confess they do not intend to let them hurt her. When Jenos appears to stop the fight and tell them the plan was cancelled, Baldorias does not react in a happy way, and even attacks Jenos himself.
- In the Anime
Kranz has only appeared briefly in the anime, in the preparations for the Clarken island attack and the attack itself, but he does not play any kind of role in the part where Train is changed into a child, as Kyoko is not pursued by the Chrono Numbers in the Anime. After Creed's defeat in Clarken Island Kranz shows himself as one of the Zero Numbers Mason gathered, together with Baldorias and Emilio.
[edit] Nizer Bruckheimer (Also known as Naizer Bruckheimer)
Number: V
Age: 28 Years (Even though he looks older)
Date of Birth: October 5th
Height: 184.5cm (About 6 ft 1 in)
Weight: 91kg (200 lb)
Blood Type: O
Weapon: Dioskuroi (Orichalcum Tonfas)
Likes: His car
Dislikes: Cheese
Hobbies: Stamp Collecting
- In the Manga
The leader of the Chronos Numbers elite assassination squad Kerberos, in charge of the close-range attacks, Nizer wields a pair of tonfas named "Dioskuroi" which he wields with incredible skill, as he shows when he has to destroy a human turned into a werewolf through the Lucifer nanomachines, that can regenerate any part of its body as long as a single piece of it remains - He can even regenerate his head, causing Nizer to need to completely pulverize it. He holds a personal vendetta against Creed Diskence for the death of Number X, his old partner Ash. He is unable to participate in the attack at Clarken Island due to grave injuries caused by Creed's Imagine Blade and a gunshot from Echidna.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Hisao Egawa (Japanese), Daniel Penz (English)
In the attacks in the manga, Nizer suffers grave injuries and is unable to participate in the attack at Clarken Island. However, in the Anime the scene where Jenos reports the Kerberos mission results to Belze does not take place, therefore we might just speculate Nizer is in the same condition as in the manga. Also, in the Anime the scene where Creed kills Ash and injuries Nizer is shown, contrary to the manga where it is just mentioned.
[edit] Anubis
Number: VI
- In the Manga
Anubis does not appear in the manga.
- In the Anime
Chronos Number VI. His appearance is that of a huge, black wolf with VI on his face, above his left eye. His weapon is that of a mechanical tail. He is skilled at combat (Being a Chrono Number), as he fights against various monster spawning from Eden to protect Train and Sven while they're heading inside, and he battles Shiki. He is always capable of speaking.
[edit] Jenos Hazard (Also known as Janus Hazard)
Number: VII
Age: 25 years
Date of Birth: July 7th
Height: 179cm (5 ft 9 in)
Weight: 80kg (About 176 lb)
Blood Type: B
Weapon: Excelion (Glove with Orichalcum wires on the tip of the fingers)
Likes: Women
Dislikes: Cigarette Smoke
Hobbies: Picking up girls
- In the Manga
Jenos is the Chronos Numbers member Number VII. Among the Chronos Numbers, he probably is the best looking, and is a bit of a womanizer. However, he does not just flirt with girls, as he actually falls in deep love with every single one of them, Rinslet Walker being one of his favorite candidates through the story. Jenos's weapon is a glove named "Excelion," which has indestructible Orichalcon wires attached to it, and can be used to cut very deeply or grasp something very tightly. Along with Naizer and Belga, he is a member of Kerberos, being the middle-range attacker. He stops Belouga from executing Nizer's suicide plan to finish Creed off, resulting in a risky escape from the castle where Belouga dies to hold a huge ceiling tile while Jenos escapes carrying Nizer unconscious. He also plays the role of trying to stop Baldorias and Kranz from fighting Train and Sven (even though he's not very warmly received), and brings Kyoko to Sephiria for their meeting, where Sephiria wishes to test Kyoko. In the final attack on Clarken Island, he tags up with Lin, who he shows great ease in getting along with.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese), Troy Baker (English)
Even though on the Manga he shows a friendly alignment to Train and Sven's sweeper team, in the anime, he shows a neutral attitude at the start, mainly because Eve was his target once, saved by Train. However, he develops a supporting attitude towards Train's group as of the Eden incursion. He also has a different role, as he parttakes in many missions he did not in the manga. For example, he watches the World Conference in a helicopter and is also given the mission of taking out Eve or take her to the Chronos headquarters at the start. In the Anime, he also is always accompanied by a Chronos eraser, that aids him. In the Anime, his relation with Lin is not of old acquaintaces, as it is more strict and formal. Also, in the Anime, it would seem his feelings towards Rinslet are of love, even though it's not known if she's just a flirt. However, they are closer than they are in the Manga.
Incidently, it's worth noting that Jenos' number is 'Lucky 7' the opposite to Train's 'Unlucky 13'. As such, his 'VII' mark is also on his chest, but on the opposite side from Train's.
[edit] Baldorias S. Fanghini (Also known as Baldor S. Fanghini)
Number: VIII
Age: 27 years
Date of Birth: September 8th
Height: 182cm (5 ft 11 in)
Weight: 90kg (199 lb)
Blood Type: B
Weapon: Heimdall (Orichalcum remote-guided chained rocket ball)
Likes: Coffee Flavored Gum
Dislikes: Mint Flavored Gum
Hobbies:
- In the Manga
Number VIII of the Chronos Numbers, Baldor was raised as an assassin from birth. His loyalty to Chronos and violent tendencies are thus extremely strong. He wields the rocket-boosted hammer "Heimdall," and frequently chews bubble gum. He, together with Kranz, participates in a mission to capture Kyoko (As stated above). He is extremely vicious and aggressive, as shown by the way he tries to kill Train in his mission, and by the way he violently smashes a group of Shooting Star soldiers on Clarken Island's castle.
- In the Anime
Baldor has only briefly appeared in the final part of the anime, but he does not appear in the mission of capturing Kyoko because in the Anime it does not take place. He is one of the Zero Numbers, that along with Mason plan on using Eve in the Eden Project.
[edit] David Pepper
Number: IX
- In the Manga
David does not appear in the manga.
- In the Anime
Chronos Number IX. His weapons are gambling cards. In the battle on Clarken Island, he fights against Maro, but a final attack from the latter seriously injures both, killing him. He is buried by Jenos after No. I and II face the Zero Numbers.
[edit] Ash
Number: X
- In the Manga
Former Chronos Number X and partner as well as best friend of Naizer. He never actually appeared in the volumes, but it was explained that he was killed by Creed Diskence.
- In the Anime
Ash actually does appear in the anime, and it's shown that his weapon is a cane (name unknown). This may be a shikomizue (a cane with a sword inside). Like in the manga, he was killed by Creed, but the scene is actually shown.
[edit] Lin Shao Lee
Number: X
Age: ?
Date of Birth: ?
Height: 168cm (5 ft 6 in)
Weight: 57kg (About 122 lb)
Blood Type: 0
Weapon: Seiren (Orichalcum Cloth)
Special Ability: Disguise
Likes: Night-time scenery
Dislikes: Mayonnaise
Hobbies: Forest walks
- In the Manga
Ash's replacement as Chronos Number X. Before entering the Chronos Numbers, his idol was Train Heartnet, due to his unique style of completing his missions. A master of disguise, he can change his appearance in a split second, and is nicknamed "Magician." His weapon, "Seiren", is a hagoromo, or a feather mantle, that is lined with orihalcon wires. This allows it to block attacks, or cut through metal with its edges. He plays a major role in two distinct parts of the story: The first one is when he, under disguise, convinces Train to head for the Apostles of The Stars' hideout, as Sephiria thinks that the Kerberos team should have support from Train, not by helping them, but as Sephiria thought that Train would want to eliminate Creed when he saw him. Unlike Sephiria's plan, Train, upon entering the castle, leaves Kerberos and the Apostles battling withouth making an intervention, and only rescues Rinslet. Also, in the Sweeper Alliance part, Lin disguises himself as "Grin", a character which is the founder of the Sweeper Alliance and plans to take the sweepers to Clarken Island to eliminate Creed, but actually he wants to use them as a diversion so that the Chrono Numbers can actually attack the headquarters unexpectedly. He created a video game that he distributed to every sweeper, which contained various intellectual and other tests, and only those who passed it should know the address of their final meeting where they would depart for Clarken Island.
- In the Anime (Seiyuu: Saiga Mitsuki)
In the Anime, Lin did not appear until the Sweeper Alliance, and his role was different: He merely summoned the sweepers and granted them a place in the trip to Clarken Island instantaneously. He also attempted to persuade Train into rejoining Chronos once his identity had been revealed, a scene which occurred in the anime (Ep 17). He also shows a "darker" personality in the Anime, as in the manga he was an innocent Number who admired Train and just wanted to fight for world peace, but in the Anime his admiring for Train is more directed to "admiring his power", and he has no problems in offending the sweepers many times. He also accuses them of fighting without receiving nothing in return, which makes him sound a bit materialistic. But it seems his personality evolves as he shows a more sympathic side, which appears to start when he says, precisely, that sweepers are idiots for fighting without getting anything in return, but after a chat with Train, when they're helping townsfolk, Train asks him if he isn't one of those fools, and he answers smiling "You might be right".
[edit] Beluga J. Heard (Also known as Belouga/Belga J. Hard)
Number: XI
Age: 29
Date of Birth: December 11th
Height: 216cm (7 ft 1 in)
Weight: 109kg (About 240 lb)
Blood Type: B
Weapon: Verethragna(anime), uslugger(manga) (Orichalcum Bazooka)
Likes:
Dislikes: Seaweed
Hobbies: Rock Climbing
- In the Manga
Number XI of the Chronos Numbers, he is Kerberos Unit's long range attacker. He wields a bazooka named "Verethragna." He dies helping Janus and Naizer escape from the Apostles of the Stars' collapsing hideout after a failed attempt on Creed's life due to Jenos's thoughtless intervention.
- In the Anime
Voiced by: Kouji Ishii (Japanese), Gordon Holey (English)
Belouga is identical to his manga counterpart, except in the Anime it isn't told if he dies or not in the escape, but is presumed so as he does not appear in the story after the attack on the castle. The last we see of him is an effort by himself and Naizer to attack Creed, the Camera shot pans to give us a a view of the ruined castle, and a large explosion can be seen. While fighting through the Castle, he engages Shiki in a battle. Shiki thinks he is simply wasting his attacks and firing wildly, but realises too late that his true target was the supporting walls of the castle, leading the building to collapse.
[edit] Maison Ordrosso
Number: XII
- In the Manga
Chronos Number XII. Maison is the eldest member of the Time Guardians. Although he never participated in a single battle in the series itself, he is the most wise and experienced out of all the Time Guardians. It is explained in the manga that he was the lone survivor the last time the Chronos Numbers fought against Tao-users. He only appears in the final part of the manga, witnessing from afar the explosion of the castle with Belze.
- In the Anime
In the anime, Maison only fights Train, Sven and Creed near the end, but he takes part in the Chronos's missions and planning from the start of the series. He also takes part in a final turn on the story after Creed is defeated, which is the putting into motion of the Eden project. Mason learned the Ultimate Tao Technique from a Sacred Taoshi (though this seems to only be a powerful energy blast) when the war between Taoshi and Chronos took place, and plans on using Eve to activate Eden to achieve "World peace". He is a Zero Number, alias, the head of the Zero numbers, together with Emilio Lowe, Baldorias S. Fanghini, Kranz Maduke, Shiki, and Kanzaki (Doctor) (The latter two from the Apostles of the Stars). His unnamed Orihalcon weapon appears to be a golden suit of armor that covers every inch of his body except his face.
[edit] Willzark
Number: 0
- In the Manga
Although superior to the Chrono Numbers, Willzark is the Zero Chrono Number himself (Note: Do not mistake for the Zero Numbers in the Anime plot). He is the leader of the Elder Statesmen that rule Chronos and order the Chrono Numbers. He has not been seen either in the manga or in the anime in person, as he only communicates with the Chrono Numbers through a holographic screen.
- In the Anime
Same as in the Manga. Willzark, together with the other Elder Statesmen, is murdered by the Zero numbers in the end of the series, along with the Chrono Headquarters being destroyed.
[edit] Apostles of the Stars
In Japanese, they are known as Hoshi no Shito (星の使徒).
[edit] Creed Diskenth (Also known as Creed Diskence)
Age: 23 years
D.O.B: December 25
Blood Type: AB
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 65 kg
Likes: Train Heartnet, himself
Dislikes: Useless people
Power: Sword
- In the Manga
Creed is the leader of the Apostles of the Stars, which seeks to make revolution, not only to overthrow Chronos, but change the world's leadership by "incompetent people". Back when Train was the XIII Chrono Number and Creed was an eraser, he admired him to the point of calling him "his partner", even though their relationship was far from close. Creed captured Rinslet to make Train meet with him at Lunafort Tower, in their first encounter after many years; he wants him to join the Apostles Of The Stars. Creed has a choker that looks like Train's, which reflects his recent and disturbing obsession with him. He borders on the insane, but Creed is at his most disturbing at times when we know what he says must be the truth. When Creed was young, he was abused by his mother. It's unknown in the manga if he kills his mother or not but he ends up on the streets. There he is abused by police as a way for them to release tension.
Creed also possesses enigmatic and frightening powers that stem from his manipulation of Ki through Tao, which manifest themselves in his 'Imagine Blade', which varies between four levels through the story (Lv. 1, the blue transparent balde, Lv.2, the black blade with the shark-shaped demon-head, Lv.3, the latter with the possibility to extend and retract itself countless times, and Lv. Max, the strongest form where it's not exactly a blade, but a giant cutting mutant arm implanted into Creed). His ultimate ambition is to elevate his nanomachines in his body to a level where he would become immortal and rule the world forever. Creed's Tao Power is called "Sword". His Imagine Blade is shattered by Train in his final battle (When it is in Level Max), when Train ignores all warnings from Dr. Tearju not to use his Rail Gun more than three times a day not to destabilize his electric power (Which would prevent him from using his Rail Gun ability ever again), and charges all his power in Hades to fire the most powerful bolt of electricity he could, which not just breaks Creed's blade, but also depletes most of his Ki, allowing him to barely stand. Eve then uses her powers to remove the immortality nanomachines from Creed, to turn him back into a human. Creed then flees with Echidna to a quiet place. Due to the damage taken, Creed eventually has to use a wheelchair.
- In the Anime Voiced by:Miki Shinichiro(Japanese), Chris Patton(English)
Creed is just as dangerous and insane in the anime, but the plot doesn't show his Imagine Blade levels (Although we see its four forms). Creed is not finished by Train's Rail Gun, as it does not appear in the Anime, but by an Orichalcon bullet given to him Sephiria which he deflects off Sephiria's Christ breaking off the tip to prevent her from stabbing Creed while shattering his Imagine Blade. In Creed's childhood, it is much more understood that he murdered his mother. When his mother was furious, he came up to her and gave her a bouquet of flowers to cheer her up, but she refused them and took them up and slapped Creed hard on the face with them. After she finished, Creed had an evil glow in his eye and he killed her. But, Creed then became overcome with fear so he ran away in the fear of the police.
Creed takes a complete reversal of personality after Eve removes the nanomachines from him. . His symbol is now a white rose instead of a red one, and he makes one last appearance as of the Eden incident, entering Eden when Mason is fighting Train and Sven, taking over the fight and allowing the two to proceed to save Eve. At the end of the show Creed is seen living peacefully in the country with Echidna.
[edit] Charden Flamberg (Also known as Sharden/Sheldon Flamberge)
- In the Manga
Charden is recognizable by his sunglasses and silk top hat (though he is very attractive, almost effeminate, when not wearing them). He wields the power to control blood, including blood drawn from his enemies. Early in the manga, he fights Belze together with Kyoko, although the battle has no outcome due to the intervention of Shiki to bring both members back to the Apostles' helicopter. Later, he sees that Gyanza is killed after he is taken down by Train and Sven. He leaves the Apostles of the Stars, together with Kyoko, over an ideological split with Creed, as he considers Creed's bloodlust is blinding his original sense of justice that formed the Apostles of the Stars, but continues to battle Chronos. He meets Train and Sven later in the plot. In the last chapter of the series Charden is seen coughing up blood, implying that he is dying. Charden's Tao Power is called "Blood".
- In the Anime Voiced by:Sho Hayami(Japanese), Kent Williams(English)
Same as in the manga, except the battle against Belze does not take place, and his leaving of the Apostles takes place at a different time. He makes a reappearance near the end of the anime, though his trademark sunglasses and silk top hat are no longer worn as well as him keeping his hair tied back. He decides to aid Train and the group in the cause of stopping Eden, by fighting the Zero numbers at the end, while Train and Sven head for the upper levels to save Eve.
[edit] Kirisaki Kyoko (Kyouko)
- In the Manga
Kyouko is an energetic, bubbly high school student who has the ability to create and control fire. She is so carefree that she will kill the enemies of the Apostles without a second thought. Kyoko likes Train from their first meeting, and Train makes her promise not to kill people. She has a crush on Train, who doesn't return her feelings. She leaves the Apostles of the Stars with Charden so he won't be lonely. Kyouko's Tao Power is called "Heat". She also makes a cameo in To-LOVE-Ru (a new series Yabuki is the illustrator for).
- In the Anime Voiced by:Chiemi Chiba(Japanese), Monica Rial(English)
Kyouko's primary difference in the anime is that she was never shown to have killed anybody. Even when attacking soldiers with the rest of the Apostle, she seemed to deliberately avoid actually killing people. She was also never given the ultimatum to join the Chronos Numbers (which was a test by Sephiria). She makes a reappearance alongside Charden to help Train near the final Eden plot (There is a humorous scene where she says she'll follow Train to the top to save Eve, but Charden tells her to stay and fight alongside everyone to defeat the Zero Numbers)
[edit] Shiki
- In the Manga
Shiki was one of the members of the Tao clan whose ancestors survived the war against Chronos 25 years ago (He confesses Train in their battle that if he was old enough, he would have participated in the war, though). As a Master-Level Taoshi, Shiki manipulates his ki (His - even though his gender can't be determined in the first volumes due to his garb, later on the story he reveals his identity). Shiki's main form of offense is through the use of insect summoning, and as such, his Tao Power is called "Insect". However, besides his insects, he masters the usage of ink seals, using them for manipulating his Ki in various ways, ranging from creating a seal sword to creating an energy blast.
- In the Anime (Seiyu: Yamaguchi Mayumi)
Shiki's backstory has yet to be revealed in the anime. He also does not fight Train or show any kind of major role in the Apostles of The Stars, as he is part of the elite team summoned by Mason to put into motion the Eden project. He fights Anubis, and later appears alongside with the Zero numbers inside Eden to stop the heroes.
[edit] Durham
- In the Manga
Durham is an expert gunman who can channel his Ki through his precious revolver, allowing him to fire destructive balls of energy without regard to ammunition. His mask also contains a hidden gun in case of emergencies. He heads off to face Train in a part of the story in order to find Train to duel him. He finds and beats Annette and searches her computer for Train's home address, where he finds Eve, whom he beats. He writes a message to Train on the wall, with Eve's blood, for Train to meet him at a forest near the town they are currently in. He is killed by Creed for his selfish insolence, by challenging Train to a gun duel. Durham's Tao Power is called "Shot". His death triggers the exit of Charden and Kyoko from the Apostles of The Stars.
- In the Anime
The same as in the manga, except that when he heads off to face Train, he finds right after he sights Eve, and so the "torture" part never takes place. Creed also kills him for his insolent attitude.
[edit] Maro
- In the Manga
Maro is a Taoshi from the Forbidden Continent, being the only Apostle of The Stars that has actually seen Shiki's face before he lifts his mask. He is not a sumo wrestler, even though he might resemble one (In the anime he confesses that to Nizer while preparing a gravity attack to shoot him). He can use his ability, "Gravity" to crush whole squads of men, when his fearsome muscles do not suffice. He greatly resents being referred to as fat, as well as people laughing (including Train & River) at his Forbidden Continent traditional garb, which resembles a sumo outfit.
- In the Anime
Same as in the manga, save for the fact that he fights David Pepper on Clarken Island instead of Train, and most likely dies, as David dies.
[edit] Echidna Parass
- In the Manga
Echidna is an ex-actress whose Tao Power, "Gate", consists of literally creating gates from one area to another. People can pass through, or she can stick a body part through to attack from an unexpected angle. She was once a famous actress who starred in many major films and won numerous awards. She blindly follows Creed in his acts, not minding his sometimes "psychopath" attitude.
- In the Anime Voiced by:Atsuko Tanaka(Japanese), Stephanie Young(English)
Same as in the manga, except for the role she plays in the final Eden part. When Mason is about to deliver a fatal blow to Creed, she suddenly appears and takes the blow for him. That is when Creed realizes how much she loves him.
[edit] Leon Elliott
- In the Manga
Leon is a young boy with a great distrust of adults and society, as he is a survivor of a war where all adults were killed, including his parents, and only children surived. He travels on a snowboard, and has the power to control air, managing to suffocate people, control air currents, among many things. Leon's Tao Power is called "Wind".
- In the Anime (Seiyu: Minagawa Junko)
He is part of a group of orphans that includes Tim Vertical. Constantly being ignored or abused by the "adults" of society, Leon sought more power so that he could better protect his friends. Ironically, after he did gain this power, he had to leave his friends behind so that he could help the Apostles remake the world. Near the final part of the story, Leon's the one who volunteers to get the fireworks for Eve to hear to trigger a reaction that would stop her from uniting with Eden. He is saved by Train when he is at the limit of his strength and is about to be taken down by two monsters from Eden.
[edit] Doctor (Kanzaki)
- In the Manga
The mysterious "Doctor" is a highly talented scientist who is interested in nanomachines. His desire to know reaches the level of psychosis, and he cares little for any lives he may take or destroy in his pursuit. He reattaches Train's right arm after it is severed by Creed's Imagine Blade, at Creed's request, and later captures Eve, intending to dissect her. The Doc's Tao Power is called "Warp World," and it allows him to literally create an alternate world where everything he imagines becomes reality. He can also pull memories from the minds of those trapped in the Warp World, and bring those into reality as well. He has no relation with Dr. Tearju or the creation of Eve or Eden in the manga.
- In the Anime
The Doctor appears to be the same as in the manga. He never reattached Train's arm (since that scene never happened in the anime) nor did he capture or attempt to dissect Eve. However, he plays a major role in the Eden project, as he is the one who controls Adam's actions towards uniting Eve with Eden, by simply playing cue-ball. After talking to Dr. Tearju through his computer screen, where it is revealed he was the one who retrieved Eden's data that Dr. Tearju tried to destroy, he participates in the battle between the heroes and the Zero Numbers, where he transforms himself into a monster (although only his transformation is seen in one scene, circumstancially, and is never seen in full-body).
[edit] Eathes
- In the Manga
Although Eathes is a monkey, he understands and speaks human language. He wears a pirate's hat, and can transform into a perfect copy of anything with which his soul has previously come into contact, a power that he uses to copy Tearju Lunatique to allow the Apostles of The Stars to use her knowledge, as he can copy both the body and the mind of whoever he copies through his power. Eathes' Tao Power is suggestively called "Copy".
- In the Anime
Eathes does not appear in the anime.
[edit] Preta Ghoul
- In the Manga
Preta was a clergyman who murdered 16 people. The Apostles broke him out of jail and through the drinking of Shinkitou (The drink that may let someone gain a Tao Power or just die), gave him the Tao Power "Decay," which allows him to rot anything he touches. He is defeated by River with his "Sonic Fist" ability, which allows him to damage Preta without touching him, therefore not exposing himself to his corrosive power.
- In the Anime Voiced by:Susumu Chiba(Japanese), Taliesin Jaffe(English)
He appeared very early on in the anime, and was captured by Saya, with a brief intervention from Train. He later re-appears again on Clarken Island, and Sven fights him in Deek's turn (As Deek does not appear in the Anime). As Preta is obsessed with Saya having captured him, Sven uses Eve as a bait (Using her transformation abilities to wear a yukata similar to Saya's one) to take Preta's clothes, that are anti-acid, and wrap them around his hands to make a kind of gloves that are impervious to Preta's corrrosive powers.
[edit] Igor Planter
- In the Manga
Igor was not in the manga.
- In the Anime
An ecoterrorist who was freed from jail by the Apostles, he too was given the power to Tao, but before he officially joined up with the Apostles, he was killed in a fight against Train and company. He had a power to control plants around him. This ability was never named though.
[edit] Deek Slasky
- In the Manga
Deek wields the power to control ice. He can attack using shards of ice, create an ice barrier around his body or even freeze his enemies with his touch. He joined the Apostles after they helped him escape from prison, where he was sentenced for 120 years for murdering four girls in his freezer. He battles Sven after the sweepers get separated after the boat's explosion, and almost kills Sylphie by attacking her with an attack that gradually freezes her body, but Sven manages to defeat him before Sylphie's body is entirely consumed in ice, saving her.
- In the Anime
Deek has not appeared in the anime.
[edit] Shooting Star Unit
- In the Manga
The Shooting Star Unit is a team of bodyguards assembled by Creed to support the activities of the Apostles of the Stars. Although they cannot use "Tao" powers like the other Apostles, they are highly trained in combat, and wear special armored suits that can even absorb the impact of a hand grenade. They were used in the Apostles' attack on the World Congress, and a group of six of them supported Echidna and Eathes in their attack on Dr. Tearju Lunatique's residence.
- In the Anime
Although they do appear in the anime, they are mostly cannon fodder. It is not known if they actually possess special armor, as everyone that fights them has weapons or abilities that allow them to damage them regardless of their kind of armor (Chrono Numbers' weapons, River's Sonic Fist, for example).
[edit] Sweeper Alliance
[edit] River Zastory
Age: 19
Birthday: May 19
Height: 179cm (About 5 ft 8 in)
Weight: 66kg (About 145 lb)
Weapon: Fists
Fighting Style: Gerbell Command (Which was taught by his grandfather, a war veteran)
Interests: Training
- In the Manga
River is, among others, a sweeper interested in capturing Creed. He is trained in the Gerbell Command style, a martial art developed in Talica during a thirty-year war. The Gerbell Command style emphasizes extreme power and speed in the fists, enough to reflect bullets and cause shockwaves to attack at a distance. Among River's abilities, Sonic Fist and Tornado Grenade are fairly relevant. While Sonic Fist allows River to move his fists in a certain direction, which allow him both to defend (By deflecting projectiles such as bullets), or to attack (As he does with Preta Ghoul, by moving the fists so fast that he creates shockwaves in the air), Tornado Grenade allows River to gather a spiral wind mass around his hand/arm, that allows him to create a small version of a tornado, which he uses, for example, to piledrive massive amounts of rock.
River first appears at a local Sweeper Bar that Train and Eve head to (Sven isn't present with them as he's doing his own training to perfect his Vision Eye). After discovering Train's identity, he requests a duel against Train to see if he can beat Train with his fists. He admits defeat after being grazed by one of Train's bullets and seeing his Rail Gun (to which River says even he couldn't deflect) After the boat incident when landing on Clarken Island where all the sweepers get separated, he ends up in the same part of the island with Train, and they both tag against Preta Ghoul and Maro afterwards. River also helps Train in the fight against Shiki, by fending off the giant insect Shiki summons, while Train takes care of Shiki. Train addresses him as "Thunder head", as his hair is shock yellow. Later on in the manga, River also aids Train in the fight against the berserkers (which're presumably members of the Sweeper Alliance): Touma and Mundock. After the battle, he requests Train to head up to beat Creed.
- In the Anime (Seiyu: Kanna Nobutoshi)
In the anime, River's character is noticeable more of a comic relief role, rather than the serious role in the manga. He first appeared in the sewer. Because he somehow got so lost, he wandered in by accident. In the Anime, River's hair is pink instead of blonde. River and the other sweepers do not fight against members of the Apostles, but with Shooting Star soldiers and Tao-wielding nanomachine monsters.
[edit] Grin
- In the Manga
Grin is the one who decided to form the Sweeper Alliance after Creed Diskenth became wanted. In the manga, he hung around with River until Train and the group appeared. The readers later discover that he is actually Number X, Lin, in disguise, but the Alliance never find out. He does not meet the Alliance after they depart to Clarken Island by boat, as he departs together with Chronos already as a Chrono Number.
- In the Anime
In the Anime, he advertised for the formation of the Sweeper Alliance, and only met River and Train after Sven responded to his ad. Like in the manga, he was later revealed to be Number X of Chronos, but the major difference here is that the Sweeper Alliance do discover this before heading to Clarken Island. Unlike in the manga, he goes together with the sweepers on the boat to Clarken Island.
[edit] Kevin McDougall
- In the Manga
Kevin McDougall is a sweeper that together with Train, Sven, Eve, River, and other sweepers, forms the Sweeper Alliance. He handles two revolvers, and his looks are those of a cowboy, except with a bit of "urban" style. In the manga, he helps Eve after she battles with Leon by carrying her. He is stabbed by Touma under Shiki's mental control, but manages to survive.
- In the Anime
More or less the same.
[edit] Silphy
- In the Manga
Silphy is another one of the sweepers that forms the Sweeper Alliance. Her specialty is body combat. She battles Deek Slasky, but he manages to deliver an attack that continually freezes her until she turns into a complete ice statue. However, while the ice is still spreading through her arm, Sven appears and fights Deek, damaging so that his Ki is not strong enough to maintain the spell, saving Siplhy.
- In the Anime (Seiyu: Minagawa Junko)
The same, except she does not battle Deek, as he doesn't appear, and she is attacked by Preta instead, who Sven fights to save Silphy.
[edit] Gallom & Lacdoll
- In the Manga
In the attack that Shiki conducts on the boat the sweepers are travelling in, Gallom is brutally killed by Shiki, and so is Lacdoll minutes later, while trying to shoot back at Shiki. The other sweepers escape from the boat right before it explodes, and reach Clarken Island.
- In the Anime
They're more or less of a comedic duo. Gallom and Lacdoll show no battle prowess and end up running away from the nanomachine monsters. Along with every sweeper they end up alive as well, celebrating the Apostle of the Stars' defeat.
[edit] Touma Fudou
- In the Manga
During the final part of the manga Doctor makes both Touma and Mundock go berserk. Under Doctor's control through nanomachines, Touma tries to attack Eve but Kevin stands in the way and is pierced instead of Eve, and after that they attack Train and River, and eventually Eve takes River's place, and both invent a plan for Eve to destroy the nanomachines that control the two.
- In the Anime
We see him face off against the Apostle of the Stars, together with the sweepers from the Alliance. However, none of the sweepers reaches the Apostles' castle, so the scene where both him and Mundock are controlled by Doctor does not take place.
[edit] Mundock
- In the Manga
Mundock is also controlled by Doctor's nanomachines, but after facing off Train and River, they face against Eve and Train, that make them come back to normal through a plan invented by both.
- In the Anime
He also tries to lend his power against the fight of the Apostle of the Stars, but unfortunately, they get the best of him, and thus he falls unconscious. He then leaves Lin to take care of them. Fortunately, he seems to be all right after the final battle with the Apostle of the Stars.
[edit] Other characters
Annette Pierce
- In the Manga
Annette is an information broker and former sweeper who seems to have some old ties with Sven. She operates the Cait-Sith Cafe, an occasional haunt of Train and his companions. The name of her cafe, Cait Sith is a mythological reference. She is beaten up by Durham when he comes looking for Train for a duel and not finds him around.
- In the Anime
Pretty much the same, except Durham in the anime does not meet her.
[edit] Saya Minatsuki
- In the Manga
A Sweeper who found and helped Train when he was injured. She introduced him to a new world, so to speak, and helped him become the man he is now. Their relationship was deep, and (according to Train) wasn't romantic, but may have been given more time. As the manga progresses, we learn more about Saya and her relationship with Train, as well as about Train's childhood and traumatic past. Her weapon of choice in both the manga and anime is a Beretta 93R, and her special technique was ricocheting bullets at different angles and velocities.
- In the Anime (Voiced by: Toyoguchi Megumi(Japanese), Caitlin Glass(English))
Saya appeared suddenly to Train on a rooftop one night, and the two of them shared a strange friendship that spanned only a few days. Still, those few days seemed to be enough to cause a change in Train. Saya influenced Train to do what he wanted to do and live freely, which causes Train to decide not to follow Chrono's orders anymore, as he leaves. Creed, who admired Train's way of killing and felt a paranoic obsession with Train, watches from afar until he gets the chance to one day meet with Saya when Train's not around, and kill her. Except for the timeline changes, the situation between Saya and Train is pretty much the same as in the manga.
[edit] Tanya
- In the Manga
Appears once in the manga during a special chapter which occurred after the events of the main story. She was shown in a single panel serving Sven and co. as a waitress.
- In the Anime
Tanya is a waitress that Sven met once before. By pure coincidence, Tanya constantly switches jobs and moves to different cities at around the same time that Train, Sven and Eve arrive at that same city. She is a constant source of free food for Train and company.
[edit] Tearju Lunatique
- In the Manga
A renowned nanomachinery and biology researcher with an IQ over 200, Dr. Tearju is the source of Eve's DNA. She is a poor cook, and slightly clumsy as well. Although she is the human Eve was cloned from, Tearju's eye color is green but Eve's is violet.
- In the Anime (Seiyu: Fukuen Misato)
She is shown in the final part of the story. She had amnesia and was forced to wake when Sven and Rinslet showed her a picture of Eve. Her eyes are also the same color as Eve's (violet) instead of being green like in the manga. She doesn't also show any of her trademark characteristics (bad cooking and clumsiness), as she appears right in the final part of the plot.
[edit] Woodney
- In the Manga
Woodney is a character with a few extra pounds who attempts to imitate Train by dressing in black, referring to himself as the "Black Cat" and having a "thirteen" tattoo (albeit in Arabic numerals, drawn and erased everyday though not always on the same arm) He meets with moderate success as a sweeper by using the Black Cat's reputation to intimidate his enemies, but this tactic can backfire when he is faced with powerful criminals. After an encounter with the real Train, he gives up imitating him and attempts to become his disciple, but Train convinces him he would help more by being an informer to them.
- In the Anime
In the Anime, the only main difference in Woodney is that he keeps on following the group, instead of turning into an information broker, and is the cause of some humorous moments.
[edit] Zaguine Axeloke
- In the Manga
Zaguine was a hired assassin who killed Train's parents. As he did not know they had a child, he didn't plan on meeting Train, and so gave him the chance to live. Train lived with him, under a strict and demanding training, in order to survive. It was during his childhood that Train got his signature characteristics: Drinking milk and developing cat-like reflexes. Zaguine later died, leaving Train to be on his own, and told him that to survive in this world, he would have to be the best. That is when Train started improving himself in order to become "the best".
- In the Anime (Seiyu: Konishi Katsuyuki)
Same as in the manga, except Train is influenced by Zaguine when he reaches Eden, and confronts a "ghost" of Zaguine. Nevertheless, he faces him and doesn't let his words bring him down.
[edit] Cleaver
- In the Manga
Cleaver is a Chronos eraser that idolized Train. After Train left Chronos, many years later, while working as a sweeper, Train meets Cleaver, that was ordered by Chronos to either bring Train back, as the Black Cat, or eliminate him. Train tries to talk Cleaver into not trying, but Cleaver draws his weapon and is about to shoot him when Train draws his weapon and shoots Cleaver, killing him.
- In the Anime
Cleaver does not appear in the Anime.
[edit] Karl Walken
- In the Manga
Karl Walken is a Chronos leader (Non-number, however) that is also the mayor of Rubeck City. He was the one who raised Train after Zaguine's death, and he asks for Train's help (Together with Sven and Eve) to hunt down Gyanza Rujike.
- In the Anime
In the Anime, Karl Walken does not make an appearance.
[edit] Adam
- In the Manga
Adam does not appear in the manga, as the Eden plot does not take place
- In the Anime (Seiyu: Inoue Kikuko)
Adam is the program that controls the giant machine Eden, that will grant "Eternal peace" to the world, and consists of transforming every person into a creature without strength of will and control of his/her decisions. Adam, inside Eden's chamber, takes the form of a boy, that tries to convince Eve into resonating with Eden. This subplot makes various references to the Biblical tale of Adam and Eve.
