List of BBC London Presenters and Reporters

BBC London is the BBC's brand for regional news in the Central and Greater London area of the United Kingdom. The television news service, BBC London News is broadcast on BBC One after the main weekday BBC News bulletins on the channel and also at weekends. A number of presenters who also double as reporters are used, many of whom have been with the programme since its launch or prior to this, with the programme's predeccesor Newsroom South East. Below are the details of some of the current presenting team:

[edit] Asad Ahmad

Asad Ahmad is a one of the main presenters of the flagship 18:30 (UK time) bulletin on BBC One as well as other bulletins. He is also a reporter at other times.

Before joining BBC London, he had presented BBC Scotland's flagship news bulletin Reporting Scotland as well as the news bulletins on Breakfast.

[edit] Riz Lateef

Riz Lateef is the second main presenter of the BBC London News weekday 18:30 bulletin on BBC One.

She joined the programme in 2004 as a reporter and occasional newsreader. Following the departure of Emily Maitlis in March 2006 to present on BBC News 24, Riz has been promoted to co-present the flagship 18:30 BBC London News programme on BBC One. She currently shares presenting duties with Asad Ahmad.

Previously, she has reported for Breakfast and presented regional news for the BBC in the North East & Cumbria. Riz was also a guest presenter on BBC One's Holiday programme in 2003 and 2004.

[edit] Louisa Preston

Louisa Preston presents the morning breakfast shows on Thursdays and Fridays as well as working alongside fellow presenters making appearances on most show timings.

In the past Louisa worked on the ill-fated ITN News Channel, she was one of the main five presenters of this channel providing audiences with the weekend news bulletins and most lunchtime and evening bullitins. Before becoming a presenter, she had worked a production journalist for ITN.

Matt Barbet is a reporter on BBC London and is commonly a presenter of late evening weekday bulletins and those at weekends. In addition to this, Matt is commonly linked with the short broadcasts in Breakfast in the morning airing at 25' and 55' minutes past the hour. He also presented BBC London's Children In Need coverage in 2006.

Before joining BBC London he worked at BBC Radio 1, and was newsreader on the Sara Cox Breakfast Show.

Mike Ramsden is a long serving member of the BBC London team presenting for a number of years. He can often be confused with fellow presenter Matt Barbett as at times the pair have similar hair styles and facial shapes. More often than not Mike is a part of the morning show and commonly is a reporter for articles in the flagship show.

[edit] Sport: Mark Bright

Mark Bright (born June 6, 1962) is an ex-footballer who now presents the sports news for BBC London, commonly appearing on Thursday nights on the flagship evening show.

Many viewers remember his appearances for Crystal Place, and later Sheffield Wednesday. Mark ended his career with Charlton FC in 1999 after assisting the club to reach the premiership. Following football Mark continues to engage in sport, running a number of London Marathons and Great North Run's to raise funds for Cancer Research making Mark the ideal candidate to present the sports features.

[edit] Weather: Peter Cockroft

Peter Cockroft is a British weather forecaster, he joined the Met Office in 1974, though he didn't become a weather forecaster until 1990. He joined the BBC in 1991 and became one of the presenters of the national weather forecasts, in 2002 he became the main weather presenter on BBC London News. He lives in Oxfordshire with his wife Ann and daughter Rosie.

Peter is the face of BBC London's weather forcasting, providing forecasts for all bulletins, often from the roof in the summer months during the 18:30 programme.

Traffic and travel updates are provided during morning bulletins on Breakfast by Joules Wilson and Kate Allen. Both have also appeared in the past on BBC News 24 to give updates during certain events affecting Central London.

The show commonly gives host to various new talent, the weather in the mornings being presented by numerous different presenters. Some presenters and reporters have moved to the programme from other regional news programmes, such as Alex Bushill, formerly of Spotlight who went on to become a correspondent for the national news. More recently Victoria Hollins has joined the presenting team making the occasional appearance presenting the morning show.
