The Austin marque started with the Austin Motor Company, and survived merger with the Nuffield Organisation to form the British Motor Corporation, incorporation into the British Leyland Motor Corporation, nationalisation as British Leyland, and privatisation as part of the Austin Rover Group and was finally phased out as brand in 1989.
