- ^ This figure is an estimate of the population of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, who administer a minority of Western Sahara and the refugee camps of Tindouf, Algeria. Some Sahrawis have remained in the Moroccan-controlled portion, and have Moroccan citizenship. Others are stateless persons. No comprehensive census data has been collected on this people since Spain's 1974 census of Spanish Sahara.
