Lipótváros

Lipótváros (meaning Leopold city) forms the northern half of District 5 of Budapest and it is located in the center-north of the city. It is bordered by Szent István körút, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út, Deák Ferenc utca and the Danube river. Most of the buildings here were constructed in the late 19th century, many of them are of artistic beauty.
Before the Second World War it was mainly populated by higher-class Jewish citizens. Nowadays its population is mainly comprised of elderly people and there is a tendency of people moving out to the suburbs. This district is gradually becoming the financial-administrative center of town with a great number of people commuting daily for working.
