[edit] Link spamming

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. See the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. --PhilipO 02:46, August 24, 2005 (UTC)

Adding links from every video game article to the same site counts as linkspamming. Please stop or you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --PhilipO 03:35, August 24, 2005 (UTC)

To back up what has already been said, the mass adding of links to any website is strongly discouraged. In the future, these edits may be treated as vandalism and you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. K1Bond007 04:33, August 24, 2005 (UTC)

I guess it would be subjective for me to tell you which articles are ok and which articles are not ok to link this website to. I do know that most articles on video games do not need it. I would say as a guideline, if the game has a lot to do with music— meaning has a released soundtrack, gameplay heavily involves music, the game is known for it's music or something to that effect, then adding the link is cool. But as stated earlier, not every game requires this. I'm not so sure NES and SNES would be appropriate since those are about the systems, however, vg musicians should definitely be ok. For a little more on this, read Wikipedia:External links (which I should note is a guideline) and if you need more clarification on how much is ok or where to link it, consider bringing this up to the Village pump. I do believe you have good intentions and that some of the additions of this link were appropriate, but the amount of times in which you added it was too much. Considering you're somewhat new to Wikipedia, I'd also like to say welcome!. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask me and I'll attempt to answer them to the best of my ability. I'd like to second the above comments. Link spamming is a regular occurence on Wikipedia and needs to be jumped on. Since you making these edits in good faith, I would suggest that you restrict them to a very small number of well chosen articles and category pages - video game music, for example, could be a good place to put a link to a top level page of your site. This ensures that people who interested in game music in particular find another relevant article in Wikipedia. I don't believe that adding them to NES or SNES, to mention the examples you brought up, would be suitable place. I really subscribe to the philosophy that Wikipedia is not a collection of links, so tend to be conservative on this issue. Anyway, that's my two cents. --PhilipO 05:40, August 24, 2005 (UTC)
By the way, I also realize that I may have reverted some edits of yours that I shouldn't have - my bad. Cheers --PhilipO 05:40, August 24, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Album infobox

Please do not remove album ordinal details from album infoboxes. WP:ALBUMS states that it "is only a guide and you should feel free to personalize an article as you see fit." Many, many articles have already adpoted the album ordinal format, including OK Computer and Definitely Maybe just to name a few off the top of my head. The Albums project only contains guidelines, i.e., generalized suggestions as to how information should be presented on such articles. --Madchester 17:42, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WP:MoS , WP Albums, etc,

Once again, please note that WP:ALBUMS, "is only a guide and you should feel free to personalize an article as you see fit." Likewise, the Manual of Style indicates that ""Rules and regulations such as these, in the nature of the case, cannot be endowed with the fixity of rock-ribbed law. They are meant for the average case, and must be applied with a certain degree of elasticity."

The great thing about Wikipedia is that its guidelines allow users the range and flexibility to improve articles as they see fit. If you look around at song articles like "Lyla" or "Paranoid Android" or album articles like Don't Believe the Truth, Think Tank, , they're great examples of articles that use the existing song guidelines as the base template, but expanding on it in ways that editors see to be useful.

Remember according to the MoS, "Clear, informative, and unbiased writing is always more important than presentation and formatting. Writers are not required to follow all or any of these rules: the joy of wiki editing is that perfection is not required." --Madchester 21:12, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dashes

I think you are confused about the use of dashes. Besides the hyphen (-), there are two main dashes used on Wikipedia: the en dash (–) and the em dash (—). The en dash is used to denote a range, as in a range of dates or numbers. To use Purple (album) as an example, you put 1993 — 1994 (using an mdash) in the recorded field, however it should be 1993–1994 (using an ndash). On the other hand the em dash is used to indicate a break in thought—as such, it usually only occurs in the prose of an article. Using the em dash to seperate song titles from track times is incorrect, e.g. "Meat Plow" — 3:37. Currently WP:ALBUMS recommends using an ndash ("Meat Plow" – 3:37), however I contest this usage and would recommend using a hyphen for now ("Meat Plow" - 3:37). That recommendation was added with no discussion and is inconsistent with Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes). —jiy (talk) 21:41, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lyrics

Wikipedia is not a lyrics site. Lyrics are copyrighted material, and as such, should not be posted on Wikipedia. Please refrain from doing so in the future. Thanks Search4Lancer 18:17, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Ah, so external links directed to lyrics are seemingly allowed (as I understand it from WikiProject Albums as opposed to featuring the lyrics directly. My mistake. In the future however, do not impulsively/ignorantly revert an entire edit that features other pertinent information beyond lyrics. Just remove the lyrics themselves and leave an actual explanation of the revert in the edit summary. - Liontamer 18:37, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Thanks for understanding. Sorry for the overall revert - I hope you've got the other information back in by now. :-) Search4Lancer 19:16, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
No problem, even added some more info I had obtained in the meantime. - Liontamer 18:27, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Minor edits

I noticed that you've been marking most, if not all, of your edits as "minor". Please consider doing otherwise. Minor edits generally consist of typo correcting, reordering words in a sentence, other copyediting such as removing whitespaces or fixing punctuation. Addition or deletion of information generally should not be done under minor edits -- it can be construed as vandalism in some cases . Perhaps you have your preferences set to "mark all edits minor by default". This can be changed in the preferences section at the top of your page, in the editing tab. Thanks for editing. [edit] AfD Nomination: Hedgehog Heaven

I've nominated the article Hedgehog Heaven for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Hedgehog Heaven satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hedgehog Heaven. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of Hedgehog Heaven during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion.

I've also bundled related articles with this nomination, namely the other OverClocked ReMix album articles. --Slowking Man 09:04, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
