Lionheart Radio is a Radio Station in the North East of England, UK which broadcasts to Northumberland basing in Alnwick and the surrounding area. They have conducted a number of successful RSL (Restricted Service Licence) broadcasts and was awarded a Community Licence by OFCOM (The Office of Communications) in November 2005.
Their first 28 day Restricted Service Licence broadcast was in June 2003, and was the first broadcast of its kind in the Alnwick District. It was originally founded and co-ordinated in partnership by Peter Duddy, and District Cllr Kevin Thompson. The project is volunteer based and the programme content is locally orientated with local producers, interviewees and local issues being discussed daily. Several more RSL's were carried out since the original broadcast which had proved a resounding success.
Lionheart Radio is now under the banner of The Alnwick Community Development Trust which was set up as an umbrella development trust for the town of Alnwick and its surrounding area. It is a focus for local opinion and it assists with a broad range of projects involving local people. One long term aim is to develop a community centre encompassing a one stop shop as well as a community broadcasting centre/recording studios. This could develop training courses in partnership and add to the projects’ long term sustainability. The Duke of Northumberland is Patron of the Trust and has endorsed the radio project. The project is also linked with KEVI Radio.
