[edit] History
[edit] Virtua Fighter 2 - 4
The Rafale family is a very prominent family in France, who were known first for their lucrative success in the aircraft industry. Lion grew up with the best in everything. Education, food, lifestyle. They live in a castle/mansion (in fact, his Virtua Fighter 3 fighting stage was inside the Rafale manor, and his stage in Virtua Fighter 4 is on the manor grounds, his castle in sight). His father wanted Lion (which, in French, is "Leon") to study Mantis Kung-Fu so that he could protect himself from harm. He was set to follow in his dad's footsteps, and lead the Rafale corporation when he grew up. That is, until he discovered the whole "aircraft industry" thing was just a cover-up for the real business—-a secret underground weapons trade. Disgusted at his father's corruption, Lion wanted nothing but to break free of the family business altogether. His father however, was not keen on the idea of the prince of his company up and leaving. He told Lion that if he (Lion) could prove that he could be the best in what he chose to do otherwise, then he was free from all family obligations. Lion has entered the World Fighting Tournaments year after year to prove to his father that he can be the best fighter in the world, thus freeing himself from his grip once and for all.
During the plot of Virtua Fighter 2, Lion lost badly, and was forced to return home to his family in shame. His dad was however proud of his son. He (not entirely a bad man) encouraged him to train and develop his skills more, and Lion has entered the latest World Fighting Tournament with greatly renewed confidence, determined to win.
[edit] Virtua Fighter Kids
In Virtua Fighter Kids, Lion is depicted as a much-younger boy (six to eight years old) and he has a group of maids that tend to his every need. The whole situation with his dad is dropped altogether, since the character has been reduced to the age of a boy. Lion's moves are faster-paced. He also has a green praying mantis as a family pet that trains in the Mantis style alongside him.
