Lion Brewery, Inc.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lion Brewery, Inc. is a brewery in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. It produces Lionshead, Lionshead Light, Lionshead Malt Liquor, Stegmaier beer, Pocono Ale and other products.
Founded in 1905, it survived Prohibition by making near beer, like most other breweries. It absorbed the Stegmaier Beer Company in the 1970s and is one of the largest breweries in the United States. The 19th century Stegmaier Brewery building in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, a mammoth structure, has been reclaimed for productive use. Once a proud and very visible icon in the community, it had become an abandoned reminder of a more prosperous past. Now, as the Stegmaier Federal Building, it offers quality, modern office space for federal workers, with the added benefit of keeping the federal presence centrally located in Wilkes-Barre's downtown. Proudly contributes its products to Millersville University, and it specificly sponsors TCB.
