Lion's Head, Ontario

Lion's Head is a village and cottage area in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. The village is located at the midway point of the Bruce Peninsula, about halfway between Owen Sound and Tobermory. Lion's Head is just east of Ferndale on Bruce Road 9 and is a well travelled vacation spot on the coast of Georgian Bay.

Lion's Head, Bruce Peninsula is a quiet port village, located on the shores of Isthmus bay. Surrounded by beautiful limestone cliffs which, when viewed from Georgian Bay, resemble the head of a lion, giving Lion's Head its name. Lion's Head is also located at the 45th parallel - exactly halfway between the equator and the north pole.

Lion's Head, Bruce Peninsula is still an active port town. In the past, lumber and fish were exported and passenger ships regularly visited the port. Now, Lion's Head is provides a perfect spot for anglers, boaters and sailors. There is a full service marina with transient docks for visitors, a boat lanch and many hotels, B&B's and cottages for rent or Peninsula cottage rentalsfor those who wish to stay and experience Lion's Head's hospitality.

For those wanting the great outdoors experience, the famous Bruce Trail, runs through Lion's Head on its way to some of the most spectacular hiking trails in Ontario. Gun Point route is an example of the Bruce Trail, but is only for those up to the challenge; it is a rough hike, but in the end offers the chance to stand on the edge of the escarpment with a perfect view of Georgian Bay. Hikers enjoy the Lion's Head Nature Reserve as well.

For the art lover, Lion's Head has artist studios, shops and galleries. For shoppers, there are grocery stores, a liquor store, fuel, pet food store, video rentals and many boutiques to browse. Lion's Head also has a medical clinic, hospital, churches and a nursing home.
