[edit] Re: External links
Could you give me an example of what you had in mind? Havok (T/C/c) 07:21, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I would basically remove everything that is not notable, and fan sites. If the fan site is reputable and "big" so to say, keep it. But other then that just follow WP:NOT and WP:EL. Havok (T/C/c) 10:36, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Matt Wertz & Dave Barnes
G'day, I noticed you created Matt Wertz's Wiki page. I was wondering, have you heard of Dave Barnes? You might notice I've used an offsite link. That's because there's no Wiki page for him. He's a musician who's (as yet) more successful than Wertz, but of the same ilk as him. I'd like to start the page but, frankly, I don't know much about him and am a moderate google ninja, but I notice you seem to be pretty good at getting info. My main question (or, more a request): Do you want to create the page? I'd be more than happy to pitch in where I can (generally, I pay more attention to the design of the pages than to the content, so I'd suck at starting it... primarily, you'd probably notice I'm mostly started up templates or stubs). --lincalinca 08:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)!
- I have heard of Dave Barnes... in fact, I met him once after a Matt/Dave concert here in Boston :o) I haven't done a page yet for him because
- I don't know too much about him
- I didn't know he was as notable (WP:N) as Matt. I knew Matt toured nationally with some famous artists, but I had just thought that Dave Barnes was only touring with Matt... which I don't think would fly here at WP. Now that I'm reading the bio on his site though, there's no doubt in my mind that he's notable enough.
- I'll take a look and see if I can come up with anything. Any help is appreciated! tiZom(2¢) 14:49, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
G'day Tom, Though I'd mention that I got off my laurels and decided to make up the Dave Barnes page after all. Please check it out and tell me what you think. And make any adjustments that you can find. Funny as it might sound, I can't find any reference to his date of birth anywhere. Plus, the page still needs some work, particularly in the touring, personal life, christian life and other sections. In short, it's still a stub, but it's on its way now. If you know or can find his DOB, please update the page. ta --lincalinca 09:26, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hey that's great! Sorry for not getting around to it - "real life" has got me busy. At any rate, you seem to know more about him than I do, so can I suggest that you add something that proves that Barnes is notable? For example, with Wertz's page, I was sure to include bands that he'd toured with. It's important, because if the WP community doesn't see that he's notable, then the page might get AFD'd. I'll keep an eye on the page. tiZom(2¢) 21:43, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Hey, Thanks for getting back to me on that. I've just done some extra info adding and things are looking in pretty good shape with the Dave Barnes page. All of my searches have yeilded me much information, so the page has had a bit more of an infoboost and, more importantly, a real notability boost. Still, if you have anything to add to the page, though, feel free to. you may notice that I've touched up Matt Wertz page just with the infobox and discog and uploaded all of the album covers for you over there. Thanks again! --lincalinca 07:59, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- A few things about the images:
- First of all, I reverted the smaller image you had for the CD cover - we're supposed to be using low-resolution images for CD covers.
- Second, I took the CD cover image off of Dave Barnes' page because CD cover images can only be used on pages that talk specifically about the album in question. This leads me to a question: Do you have a picture of Dave Barnes in concert? Something like that would be better to use in this situation.
- See Template:albumcover for more information.
- I hate to be the one fixing this and teling you about it, but I suppose you'd rather hear it from me than some user bot in the future. :o) tiZom(2¢) 00:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rove
Good comment on Rove. You should have seen some of the vandalism and criticism that the article used to get until it got a few watchers! He seems to split people fairly evenly into the like/hate camps. --Steve 22:25, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Moor link on your userpage
Hi, the link you have about your Moorish ancestry points to Moor, which is a disambiguation page. The page about the group of people called the Moors is at Moors. I'd change it myself for you but that last user I did that for got mad. Thanks! Brad T. Cordeiro 00:25, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Certification template
I would be delighted to help. But first I have a few questions. By making it in MediaWiki, do you mean using SVG? Or do you mean using the correct syntax (the one you have might not work, I think)? Either way I could probably help. If you want to make a draft to go over ideas, you can make a subpage of my username, or yours. And about making the image appear multiple times - yes it is absolutely possible (using {{#if:
), but yes it is messy. It is messy or more specifically tedious, to code the template like that (it would be easy to embed it still). It would be worth it for the fact that it looks better but it would be impossible to give it a limitless cap (i.e. there would have to be a max number of times) - Рэдхот(t • c • e) 12:51, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- A single template would be best. But also, unless you make the images in SVG, they will get recreated very soon. If you want, you could make some in raster and I can try to convert them as accurately as possible to SVG. In case you don't have a clue what I mean, see raster and vector. Also, I think the template will have to be usable for more than just RIAA. Only RIAA wouldn't be neutral. - Рэдхот(t • c • e) 12:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well {{certification}} and {{cert}} are available. If you want you could also try doing the vectors yourself in Inkscape, but I'm happy to make them if you want. And yes, it is possible to layer them with partial transparency if you want. - Рэдхот(t • c • e) 12:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, also {{sales}} is available but I'm afraid the name might be a bit too vague. - Рэдхот(t • c • e) 12:53, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. I have a draft available at User:RedHotHeat/certtest. It works as
{{User:RedHotHeat/certtest|TYPE|# OF TIMES}}
. It currently only does gold and platinum (no images, but it shows a link where the images would be, allowing to use as proof of concept). Gold only allows up to 2×, right now, and platinum only goes up to 4× and uses seperate images. But btw, these limits may have increased by the time you read this. Also, before you upload the images, could you run the names you're gonna use by me? (The reason is, depending on how they're named, it makes the coding easier or harder). - Рэдхот(t • c • e) 15:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)- And if you could give me a sneak peak of the images by e-mail, before you upload them, that would be great (use ģbŏŇňêř689 AT ĜṂáǐL DOT com - ignoring all accents, and delete after use) Thanks. I've also moved the talk the talk about this, from my talk page, to User talk:RedHotHeat/certtest. - Рэдхот(t • c • e) 15:42, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Album covers are fair use
Fair use images such as album covers aren't allowed in templates, whether thumbnailed or not. Wikipedia:Fair use criteria point nine says, "Fair use images may be used only in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages." (Emphasis mine.) I'd also advise you to read Wikipedia:Civility before you say things like "you've just made a pain of yourself". Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 18:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
