Linkin Park Underground
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linkin Park Underground is Linkin Park's official fan club, a place where thousands talk on forums, and share information on Linkin Park's upcoming projects and album news. Also included with the ability to browse and post on the forums is access to your own @linkinpark.com e-mail address and new information about the band before it reaches the public. Members also gain access to pre-sales of new Linkin Park material such as albums, clothing merch, and items such as their book From the Inside: Linkin Park's Meteora.
Founded in 2001 by Linkin Park and Jessica Bardas, the Linkin Park Underground (commonly referred to as the LPU) allowed fans of Linkin Park to share their passion for the band.
Each year, a new membership package is released. In its first year, the LPU gave away a re-issued Hybrid Theory EP as a gift for signing up. The first 500 members of the LPU received a signed copy of the EP as a thank-you from the band.
Until January 31st, 2005, there was a forum allowing fans to trade and sell LP merchandise. However, it was closed after difficulties with several members.
In September 2005, a similar fanclub called Fort Minor Militia was created for Mike Shinoda's hip-hop project, Fort Minor. The first 100 people to join were able to have their DVD that was included with their first album, The Rising Tied, signed by Mike, as well as other merchandise.
Since then, the LPU had undergone some major site designs, and is currently in its fifth year with the bonus album, LP Underground V5.0. As it stands they have released five "Underground" CDs, though recently LP Underground V6.0 leaked onto the internet around the time it was announced, causing controversy between fans of the band.

LP Underground 5.0 EP (2005) |
LP Underground 6.0 EP (2006) |
|
Just recently LP Underground 6.0 was announced. Seemingly as soon as it was announced the CD was leaked over the internet. The CD includes a studio demo version of "QWERTY" (which may have been recorded to compromise for it not appearing on the upcoming album) and a new instrumental song called "Announcement Service Public". In it Chester's vocals are reversed. If you reverse them you will hear the words "You Should Brush Your Teeth And You Should Wash Your Hands." Linkin Park fansites are now banding together to stop this album from being shared at all. This has some what started a "war" between fans who want to hear the two new songs and those who feel you should pay versus illegally obtaining it.
It was sold at Best Buy on December 5, 2006 while supplies lasted.
