Linesman/Mediator

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linesman/Mediator was a dual-purpose civil and military radar network in the United Kingdom.

Linesman was the air defence element of the project, and Mediator the air traffic control element.

During the late 1960s and early 70s, the interface for the two systems were located at RAF West Drayton - also known as LATCC - the London Air Traffic Control Centre. Various UK radar manufacturers were working on site - Plessey, Marconi, Ferranti and Elliot Automation - all names that have now disappeared. Cost over runs constantly put the project at risk and it was eventually cancelled in 1973? The main building at West Drayton was called L1 but it was realised that it was particularly vulnerable to air strike and did not help the arguement for continuing the project.--212.46.146.174 15:32, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Graham Thompson
