Linesearch (website)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linesearch.org is a website resource used by utility companies to search for high pressure gas and oil pipelines in the United Kingdom. To ensure all roadworks and streetworks are carried out to legal requirements, such as the Traffic Management Act, 2005 and New Roads and Streetworks Act, 1991, Linesearch must be contacted before works are carried out. There are over 7,800 km of apparatus owned by the companies within the Linesearch group.

Linesearch is a union of over a dozen national and international gas and oil companies, whose 7,821 km of supply lines criss-cross the UK. No excavations by utility companies or statutory undertakers can be carried out within 10 to 20 metres of a high-pressure pipe, such as those found near airports and petrol stations, without express permission from Linesearch and the suppliers.

The operating companies within the Linesearch group are -

  • Esso Petroleum Co Ltd
  • Mainline Pipelines Ltd
  • Government Pipelines and Storage System
  • Manchester Jetline Ltd
  • BPA
  • ConocoPhillips (UK) Ltd
  • Total Uk
  • BP TSEP
  • Shell UK Ltd
  • Huntsman Petrochemicals (UK) Ltd
  • BT GEO Network

From 1 July 2006, the pipeline information for E-on UK Plc were added to the Linesearch service.
