Linda Newton (Wrestling valet)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linda Newton was a professional wrestling valet better known as Dark Journey.
[edit] Career
Linda Newton started in wrestling as a valet in the Universal Wrestling Federation in 1986. She was the valet/manager for The Missing Link and she had a heated feud with Missy Hyatt, which resulted in many catfights.
Hyatt has said in her RF Video shoot interviews that Newton would get into their fights so much that she would forget what she was supposed to do and was really stiff with her punches, pulling out some of Hyatt's hair several times.
She also was the valet for Dick Slater for awhile and was once DDT'd by Jake "The Snake" Roberts during his feud with Slater. She was brought into wrestling by Slater because she was dating him. They broke up when she spent a weekend with Sting and Slater found out about it.
In 1987, she went to the NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions where she was the valet for Four Horsemen member Tully Blanchard for over a month. She left the sport when this run ended. However, she has the distinction of being the first widely known Black woman manager in wrestling.
