Lincoln Almond
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lincoln Carter Almond (born June 16, 1936), an American politician and member of the Republican Party. A protege of the late Senator John Chafee, Almond previously served as United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island and as Governor of Rhode Island from 1995 to 2003. He attained notoriety [citation needed] through his refusal to declare a state of emergency when the town of Pascoag's water was contaminated with MTBE in the fall of 2001.
Almond was the first governor to serve a four-year term under changes to the Rhode Island Constitution. Previous statewide terms of office were two years.
Almond is Episcopalian.
