Limerick West
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Limerick West parliamentary constituency is located in the western part of the Munster county. The constituency has an electorate of 53,879 and at present is served by 3 Teachtaí Dála (TDs). The method of election is the Single Transferable Vote. It is a very rural, conservative constituency, with few large towns. In some elections, such as in 1982, only Fianna Fail and Fine Gael candidates appeared on the ballot. In 1987, a Progressive Democrats candidate was elected. This was the first, and so far only, time a candidate from a party other than Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael was elected in that constituency since it came into being in 1948. No candidate from a left-wing party has ever been elected in this constituency.
