[edit] HiddenStructure

Hi Ligulem - in the same manner as you altered the CityRail alt infobox to get rid of the CSS hack, can you please do the same to the Template:Sydneyferries_Wharf box? It's putting up strange boxes of colour, probably because the hack used on there is now deprecated. I don't know how to fix it. Thanks. (JROBBO 13:26, 19 October 2006 (UTC))

Done. --Ligulem 15:22, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Philippine collegiate team

Can you make the "Seniors' general championship" row hidden if it is blank (like the one found at De La Salle Junior Archers? Thanks. --Howard the Duck 02:41, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Done --Ligulem 09:13, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Common.css

Re [1]: Where has this been discussed? Which delete links do you refer to? I would propose to not use display:none gimmiks (see Wikipedia:hiddenStructure for some reasoning why). --Ligulem 18:01, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

It wasn't formally discussed, but is not controversial in nature. On several MediaWiki: pages there were "delete" links, and killing them centrally with display:none and having admins add them to their local css seemed like a good way to prevent the delete links from showing up for non-admins but letting admins enable them. If a browser is not css-capable then the delete links will show up exactly like they have until now, nothing will be changed. When they click the link it will just say that only an administrator can perform that task. —Mets501 (talk) 18:05, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
I've removed the delete link you added on MediaWiki:Linkshere. This is completely unneeded and confusing. I've also reverted your change to Common.css, which is now unneeded as well. --Ligulem 22:48, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bot Userpage

I noticed that your bot's user page does not contain all the information required by Wikipedia:Bots#Policy. Please update your bot's user page accordingly. Thank you. —Mets501 (talk) 19:13, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Done and responed. --Ligulem 22:03, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! Nothing particular about your bot: it was discussed on WP:BOWN and I was looking through the bot user pages and notifying users with {{createbotpage}} :-) —Mets501 (talk) 23:06, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka

Thank you for your support in my RfA. Unfortunately consensus was not reached, and the nomination was not successful. However, I do appreciate that you took the time to participate. Please know that I am still in support of the Wikipedia project, and will continue to contribute without interruption. Thanks again! --Elonka 18:54, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problem with cite news template?

Hi... If you have a sec, could you help me figure out where I'm going wrong with this footnote? I've rewritten the note repeatedly, but can't seem to get it to display right. --Rrburke 15:38, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, and thanks for answering. I replied here. --Rrburke 20:30, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Country flag alias ENG

Please could you revert the flag back the border verison as it does look better with a border and Sondre kept on reverting the Template:Country flag alias England to a non-bordered version when the consensus was to keep it as borded version. Why should the England and ENG templates be different? Kingjamie 17:12, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Yup. I made a redirect ([3]). The two should be the same. Please use {{editprotected}} on the talk if any of these templates must be changed. --Ligulem 17:22, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A concern

[from my talk  Michael Z. 2006-11-14 18:55 Z]

I would appreciate if you could refrain from using edit summaries like this one. Such wordings are not helpful. I'm rather surprised to have to read that from a Wikipedian with your profile. --Ligulem 18:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

It was merely an allusion to the hackneyed American saying about guns, making the point that the effects of mechanical power can be hard to undo. I sometimes use edit summaries in talk pages which try to entertain while summarizing my point. I'm sorry that this one backfired. Michael Z. 2006-11-14 18:55 Z

[edit] Bot Needed

From WP:VPT

I'm editing pages such as 7, 8 and 265 to solve the WP:BUNCH problem. It's rather formulaic. I wonder if a bot/script/whatever could be written to save my time? The problem seems to carry on right up to and beyond 1876. See 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 362 to see what I've done so far.

Also, there is little consistency in the disambiguation; sometimes it's {{otheruses}} and sometimes it's {{otheruses-number}} and sometimes it's both. perhaps they should all just be {{otheruses-number}} and any such page as 5 (disambiguation) should be merged with 5 (number). --User24 00:01, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

User:Ligulem runs a version of Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser that can be given a scripted tasklist. He might be willing to do this for you. There's also Wikipedia:Bot requests. -- Rick Block (talk) 02:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
This can be done with Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser. --Ligulem 10:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the responses both of you, I've left a message on your talk page Ligulem. --User24 14:53, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

end from WP:VPT

I've no idea how bots work; would it be a case of me asking you you to write the necessary scripting, or would it be something I should do? --User24 14:53, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
WP:BOTS. A bot is a program that runs on your computer and behaves like you would using your browser. Best would be if you'd learn how to use AWB yourself. There, you can specify rules (regular expressions) that change the wiki text of a list of pages. I could help you using installing/configuring AWB. Do you run Windows? Did you read Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser? --Ligulem 15:38, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] cite book issue

I solved this by replacing the apostrophes with italics (which is semantically good, but might upset some.), because I could not figure why adding a colon would cause that. Since you,as far as I know, are the real specialist of the cite_X templates,do you think you could have a look into it? Circeus 22:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] addLoadEvent

Hi, one of your user scripts uses the addLoadEvent( func ) function (see [4]). This function will be removed from MediaWiki:Common.js soon. Please modify your scripts to use addOnloadHook( func ) instead. —Ruud 18:22, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Done [5]. Thanks for the message. --Ligulem 19:48, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template magic

Do you know of a way to do something like this

{{Template with format 1
|{{data}}
}}

{{Template with format 2
|{{data}}
}}

So that the result is something like this Template with format 1

Title information date

Template with format 2

Title: date

Information

Of course these are simple examples for what I want to do, but the basic idea is there. There are templates that are called from about 130 pages some of which are lists of information about the other 125 pages. The data passed to the four templates is basically the same (well 3 of the templates use subsets of the data used in the 4th template). It would be nice to have one place to edit all this data. I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction for documentation (if you know of something that could help solve this problem. Thx in adv --Trödel 22:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Question seen and read. I'm thinking about what your problem could be. I haven't yet understood your question. Maybe some more detailed and/or specific examples might help. --Ligulem 23:14, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks - For example see my sandbox - so your userpage doesn't get to cluttered :} --Trödel 02:42, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Ok. I got it. Now, I'm thinking about how that could be done. --Ligulem 15:55, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Solution?

User:Ligulem/work/Book of Bloggs contains:

{{ {{{format}}} | first = Joe | last = Bloggs | year = 1974 | title = Book of Bloggs }}

(the data). Now I can do:

*{{User:Ligulem/work/Book of Bloggs | format = cite book}}
*{{User:Ligulem/work/Book of Bloggs | format = cite journal}}

which gives:

  • Bloggs, Joe (1974). Book of Bloggs.
  • Bloggs, Joe (1974). "Book of Bloggs".

--Ligulem 16:35, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

You are the man!!
I'll play with this later today to make sure I understand how it works - thx so much --Trödel 17:09, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
This worked well - thanks so much !!!! --Trödel 23:59, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
