Life is Good (company)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Life is Good is a New England-based retail company founded by brothers Bert and John Jacobs. The company began in 1989 when the brothers began selling T-shirts door-to-door in Boston and along the East Coast. The company was somewhat unsuccessful until 1994, when they adopted the company mascot "Jake", a whimsical smiley-faced character. Today the company owns and operates several stores, and sells its products through many outside retailers. The product line now includes not only clothing, but also such items as blankets, coffee mugs, frisbees, pet supplies, and various other accessories. [1]

[edit] Charity Work
Life is Good is very well known for its charity work. In particular, they are known for the two festivals that are held annually on the Boston Common.
[edit] Watermelon Festival
The Watermelon Festival is held around July of each year. It features live music, games and activities for children, and unlimited free watermelon. The proceeds for this event benefit Project Joy, which is a Boston-based non-profit organization that assists in the needs of traumatized children.
[edit] Pumpkin Festival
The Pumpkin Festival is held around Halloween each year in October. This event also features live music and activities for children. The goal of this festival is to break the Guinness World Record for the most lit jack-o'-lanterns in the same place. On October 21, 2006, a total of 30,128 pumpkins were carved and lit, breaking the previous world record of 28,952 jack-o'-lanterns set by the Keene, NH Pumpkin Festival in 2003. [2]
The proceeds of the Pumpkin Festival are donated to Camp Sunshine, a retreat for the families of children with life-threatening, or terminal illnesses.
