[edit] Explanation of ratings

I have rated this article as Start class because it has material appropriate to that designation in the supporting graphics; I have rated it as mid-range in importance because while its influence in the subgene of sword and planet is considerable because of its possible use by Edgar Rice Burroughs as a partila model for A Princess of Mars, it is otherwise little more than a curiosity, virtually unknown outside devotees of classic science fiction.
