Lieutenant Detective Steve Sloan was a police detective for the Los Angeles Police Department in the television show Diagnosis: Murder. The show ran from 1993-2001.

Sloan was played by Barry Van Dyke. Barry was co-stars with his father Dick van Dyke. Some of Barry's children even appeared in some episodes. Towards the end of the series, Barry began writing his own episodes.

Lt. Sloan is one of Dr. Mark Sloan's children. He has a sister named Carol. Right out of college, he joined the army and spent 18 months on a tour to Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He joined the LAPD and soon promoted from detective to lieutenant. He co-owns a restaurant with Jesse Travis called BBQ Bob's.

Lt. Sloan was in all eight seasons of Diagnosis: Murder.
