Lichtenvoorde
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lichtenvoorde is a town in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Oost Gelre.
Until January 1, 2005, Lichtenvoorde was an independent municipality. It includes also four small villages: Lievelde, Zieuwent, Vragender and Harreveld. There lived about 20,000 people in this municipality.
The "Lichtenvoordse" people are known as the keienslöppers (brick trailers). They have a huge cobblestone at their marketplace with a stone lion on top. These are the symbols of the village.
Once a year, as start of the fair, there is a huge flower-parade. Large creations, 5 m wide, 8 m high and as long as they want, they express anything the groups want, from fairytales to expressions, from daily things to art. This event takes place every 2nd Sunday of September, and comes from the ancient harvest fests.
