License to Chill
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
License to Chill is the breakthrough 2004 (see 2004 in music) album by Jimmy Buffett. License to Chill, released on July 13, 2004, sold 238,600 copies in its first week of release according to Nielsen SoundScan.
On this album, Buffet has many duets with noted country music artists, on country songs including "Hey Good Lookin’" by Hank Williams. With this, Buffett topped the U.S. country albums chart for the first time in his three-decade career making some longtime fans feel that Buffett has alienated them by abandoning his traditional "Gulf and Western" sound for a more commercial and thus mainstream act. Buffett perhaps explores the problem in his song "Simply Complicated" in the line "Am I country, pop or rock and roll, I know they are related..."
This is also the name of his 2004 Tour, which included two shows at Boston's Fenway Park. In November 2005, Mailboat Records released "Live at Fenway Park", a live recording of the two shows. Included was a 55 minute DVD of the show.
