Liberty Tree Mall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Liberty Tree Mall is a mall in Danvers, Massachusetts on Endicott street and off Route 128. The mall was originally built in 1972, and was expanded in 1993. The mall has seen many changes, and has always had to compete with its sister mall across the highway, the Northshore Mall. Ann & Hope, one of the former anchor stores of the mall, was actually opened in 1969 before the rest of the mall was completed. The mall has approximately 100 stores. Sports Authority and Old Navy were added after the 1993 expansion. Marshalls has been in the mall since the 1980s, and is the only remaining original anchor store at that mall. Filene's Basement moved to the Northshore Mall in the 1990s. Lechmere was in the mall until 1997 and was demolished in 1998/1999 and rebuilt into Target, Staples, Dollar Tree, and most notably, Best Buy in 1998. An fye replaced part of an area of smaller stores and converted them into an FYE music store / video arcade. Another section of smaller stores was turned into Bed, Bath and Beyond. Ann & Hope closed in 2001 due to poor sales and was rebuilt into Kohl's, Stop & Shop, and Pier 1 Imports. The mall also houses a 20-screen movie theater, which is the main attraction of most shoppers that go there. Outside the mall, a Child World later became Linens n Things, and Paperama became CompUSA. The former Levitz Furniture became Home Depot.
The Liberty Tree Mall is owned by the Simon Property Group.
