Liberty Tax Service is a United States-based company specialized in the preparation of tax returns for individuals and small businesses. It was founded by John Hewitt in 1997, after he sold off his interest in rival Jackson Hewitt.
As of 2006, Liberty Tax Service was the fastest-growing international tax preparation firm in the world, with some 2,000 offices in the U.S. and Canada.
Most individual offices are independently-owned, and Liberty Tax Service was ranked by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the 10 most successful franchises in the country. In addition, Black Enterprise has named the Liberty Tax Service franchise opportunity as one of the most affordable.
