Liberty Bank Stadium is a proposed soccer-specific stadium to be located in suburban Des Moines, Iowa. It is expected to be completed in 2009 for the current champions of the Premier Development League, the Des Moines Menace. The stadium is badly needed by the Menace due to their rapidly growing attendance and increasing support in the Des Moines area.

[edit] Design

LBS will have 6,000 permanent seats plus supplemented seating to bring the stadium capacity to grand total of 17,000 which would make it the second largest soccer-specific stadium in the United Soccer Leagues. The stadium's design calls for 6,000 permanent seats and 31 luxury suites in the first phase, followed by covered seating on the field's opposite side in phase II of construction, to be followed by an uncovered tier of seats behind each goal, thus bringing the stadium up to a grand total capacity of 17,000 spectators. At this size, it would rival many of the smaller Major League Soccer stadiums in seating capacity, even if it does not rival them in size, cost or stature.

[edit] Delays

The Liberty Bank Stadium Project has been delayed due to the unexpected withdrawal of support by the Urbandale City Council members who had previously supported it. Currently the club is desperately trying to regain city approval, but in the meantime, the Stadium Foundation, a non-profit corporation founded by the club to raise money to build the stadium, is hard at work fundraising throughout the Des Moines area.

[edit] Other Events

LBS also could play host to international exhibition soccer matches, as well as the Iowa High School Football and Soccer Championships in years to come. Most plans are speculative at this point, however.
