Li Yun (李云) is a character in the Water Margin.
Li Yun came from the same province as the Zhu brothers (Zhu Gui and Zhu Fu). He was born with a wide face and thick eyebrows, had a red beard and green eyes, making seem like a non-Han Chinese, earning himself the nickname 'Green-eyed tiger' (青眼虎).
Li Yun served as a constable head in the local county office, and once taught Zhu Fu martial arts. He excelled in martial arts, wielded a sabre in combat and could take on thirty to fifty enemies at the same time.
Once, Lord Cao made Li Kui drunk and sent his men to inform the governor that he had captured the bandit 'Black Whirlwind'. The governor was delighted and despatched Li Yun with another thirty men to escort Li Kui back to the county office. Zhu Gui heard about it and discussed with his brother of a solution to save Li Kui. Zhu Fu knew that his master was too powerful in combat and they could not rescue Li Kui by force, so he came up with a plan. The brothers prepared drugged food and wine and waited for Li Yun and his men to pass by. Then, they pretended to treat Li Yun and his men, who finished all the food and wine without suspecting anything. Once Li Yun and his men were unconscious, the Zhu brothers freed Li Kui and Li Kui killed Li Yun's men and Lord Cao, and wanted to kill Li Yun as well, but Zhu Fu stopped him, telling him that Li Yun was a good man.
They continued on their way and a while later, Li Yun regained consciousness and caught up with them. Li Yun and Li Kui exchanged a few blows and eventually Zhu Fu stopped them. Zhu Fu managed to persuade Li Yun to join the Liangshan band and they went back to Liangshan together.
Li Yun became in charge of overseeing the construction of buildings on Liangshan and participated in the campaigns along with the other heroes after they had obtained amnesty from the emperor. During the Fang La campaign, Li Yun was assigned to attack Wengzhou and managed to besiege the enemy leader Wang Shangshu. Wang managed to escape and Li Yun tried to stop him but was trampled to death by Wang's horse as he was on the ground and Wang was on horseback.
