LG F9100
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The LG F9100 was released in Q1 of 2005, and was LG Group's first cell phone with a built-in keyboard. It was the predecessor of the LG F9200 and the LG VX9800. Designed as a response to the T-Mobile Sidekick, the LG F9100 was built exclusively for Cingular customers. Known unofficially as the 'American Idol Phone' due to its appearance in a few episodes, the phone focused on text messaging and instant messaging. Its lack of Bluetooth, speakerphone, and a camera was the reason the phone was so openly attacked, preventing the phone from gaining popularity.
The phone originally sold for $199, but quickly decreased in price, due to the negative popularity that it acquired. This had its advantages, as it became, arguably, the lowest-priced keyboard-cell phone hybrid on the market, found on eBay for $.10-$250 brand new, just a year after its release. Despite its shortcomings, it had one of the most comfortable keyboards of any QWERTY cell phone at the time.
