Originally from New Jersey, Steele graduated from Morristown High School in 1987 and Syracuse University Martin J. Whitman School of Management in 1993. He attended Morehouse College from 1988 to 1990. He worked in New York City as a stock broker in the World Trade Center before becoming a model. He claims he would have been in the buildings and been a victim of the September 11, 2001 attacks if he kept his old job as a stockbroker.

Lexington and his agent claim that his penis is 11 inches (27.94 cm) long, but Lex Caliber - a sex toy actually molded from Steele's penis - measures 13 inches from the tip of the urethra to the bottom of the base (11 in or 28 cm including the vibrating part on the Vibrating Lex Caliber).
